Is Tom Davies overhyped? I haven't seen much greatness out of him to be honest, but my sample size is rather small.

hard to say, he never particularly stood out at youth level when i saw him but he has settled well into everton's first team. imo you'd probably find that a lot of players could make the jump from youths to seniors and at the least hold their own but generally they're made to jump over every possible hurdle first before they're given that chance.

It's also often the case that being the new kid on the block adds a certain level of surprise. Teams aren't prepared to deal with you. The bigger test of longevity is normally six odd months down the line. Always learning - or should be...

I think I understand the point he’s trying to make, we’ve all said how annoying it is that the forward players all try to do too much, failing to get their heads up, always trying to attempt the dribble or taking on shots instead playing team mates in etc. It’s just the language he’s using and the way it’s being communicated is so unintelligent and inarticulate it’s indicative of how he’s failing to communicate and educate these kids.

He is the biggest surprise and to his credit he is actually looking good. He is like a new player. How can someone look sooo average for an u18 side and then look like one of the best players for a PL first team. Like you said just shows the level of coaching and how many more would make it. I haven't seen one player whether there's been a pathway provided or they got a chance out of pure luck look a flop and let their first team down. Surely that must give confidence that these guys can step up when even the best aren't being played

Agree with this but also feel it enforces my general point. In England people get caught up when a young player comes through and does well, then they get deemed as special and clubs all of a sudden want to spend money on them, when really they're just good academy players forced into the first team through injury or coming through a weak club. When really a lot of the special players are still not getting the chance, and you end u with player like Henderson going for big money just by virtue of being young and English, which is stupid.

When really, if you a give more a chance, then due to them being good enough for the PL, being committed to the club and a complete unknown they are likely to have good breakout seasons. They will be great squad players or even break into the first team. If they stand the test of time then brilliant. But as you say teams will pay more attention to them. If they struggle to adapt then you sell them on for 20 odd million. Win Win. You will also start discovering more of the special players and England senior team has a bigger pool of players to choose from

Just finished watching the second half (missed the first half). That was pretty uninspiring stuff. KWP did OK, nice cross in for the goal, hard to pick out anyone else who really covered themselves in glory.

Really rate KWP.never gives the ball away, never seen him beaten in 1 on 1,and can take on a player. However his only serious career path at spurs will be to surpass trippier. He can’t really be kept as a 3rd choice RB or LB.will be interesting to see how it plays out.Not even mentioning the other promising 3 or4 full backs we have in the youth ranks. Will have to be some brutal decisions by poch and co in the next 2 or 3 years.

Yeah I agree with this. He's worded it really badly and his reputation will come into play with it, but he's got a point here.

For me, a lot of the problem(s) with English players, especially attackers, boil down to that the majority of them take far too many touches of the ball. They overcomplicate and go for some individualistic move with the blinkers on when you should be aiming for simplicity - good touch, pass, move. That's how you move teams around and carve them open.
