From the ES article: 'Spurs have high hopes for Oliver Skipp, a 17-year-old central midfield player, although it is felt he tired in the final months of last season and he will not be considered for a first-team spot next season.'

I'm not surprised Skipp tired towards the end of the season - he played for the U-18s, U-19s and U-23s. I don't know how many appearances he made but it seemed as if he was always in the Academy teams, whatever the age group. He appeared in many big games for the Academy including the FA Youth Cup and the European CL youth games and always was very influential. A very promising young player so I hope he can kick on next year within the Academy system and show his worth at U-23 level.

I was actually surprised by how much football he played because I was under the impression that there were strict guidelines on how many minutes each player could play per season. It relates to child labour laws.

As no one is really paying attention to the general youth thread I'll post this here it's clips of Hudson-Odoi https://streamable.com/547nj

I don't know what it would take but if we could get him for under 10m I'd do it. I can easily see him being like an Henry on the left, or even a Robben carrying the ball down' the wing and cutting in.
Think it will cost well north of 10m to get him. What a talent though.

CM is definitely most interesting area of the squad this summer. Will we buy 1 or 2 will Onomah stay. Will winks recover his form. Presume Dembele is off. Never really expected Skipp to get much time next season maybe odd bench place.

This article is curious. If it does genuinely reflect club thinking, I wonder why some of the supposed "judgements" it contains have entered the public domain?

The less contentious parts are about RG and AW.

Reo Griffiths signing is good news. If he develops into a quality striker, obviously I'd rather it was with the famous Spurs than elsewhere. A sale to Germany with an agreed buyback clause, as we allegedly negotiated with Bennetts, is a Plan B move for me. I'd rather we sign our best young players to 3 year contracts and loan them out for experience, as and when good for their development.

This has worked well for Anton Walkes, with his loan to the States and then Portsmouth, and a permanent move is now probably the best decison at his age as he wouldn't get a squad place with us. If he continues to learn and develop, he could end up as a PL player like Ryan Fredericks, Charlie Daniels, Adam Smith etc.

But the Edwards and Skipp comments in the article are strange. I note that the journalist, Dan Kilpatrick, has no quotes in the article. Was he briefed by someone in the club on an unattributable basis? Or is this all hearsay and rumours?

Marcus Edwards is hugely naturally talented, and still a teenager. I think the club should continue to develop him, starting with pre-season training. Unless this a deliberate leak, a thinly veiled threat from the club that he is in the last chance saloon with us, designed to get him to come back determined to do everything possible to prove that he can make it at Spurs. But I still don't see why that should be in the public domain.

As for Oliver Skipp, he seemed to be playing at least twice a week all season, whilst Tashan Oakely-Boothe disappeared from Academy and development matches after the U17 World Cup and our summer tour.

Since TOB and Skipp both play CM, albeit with slightly different skill sets, it seemed nuts not to share some of the workload between them. I know TOB was often travelling with the first team, but he could still have played in some of our more important Academy games.

Skipp did look a bit tired towards the end of the season, but that was hardly surprising given how much he played. Surely, Poch & McDermott should be looking at all our young players in pre-season and then making the judgement as to who is stepping up and getting closer to first team level. I don't understand why such a a judgement would be made now, on players who need and deserve a holiday after a good season's work.

39.

this is where we hit a problem in this country as i don't see what there is to gain by making him do it all over again at the same level next season. i suspect he'll be training with the first team instead but as we know that typically means he won't play any football at all which isn't exactly ideal either but that's just how it is.

where's that from?

I thought I remembered one of the ITKs, or perhaps someone else who claimed to have inside knowledge on the Bennetts to Germany situation, suggesting we had included a buyback clause in the deal with Borussia M.

The best I can quickly find is Hercules' post linked below. The comment about "we would sign him" if KB gets to the level he believes he can achieve refers, I think, to the alleged buyback clause.

But who knows? Typically, only the big Spanish clubs have used a sale & buyback model, rather than a loan for competitive experience, model.

Apparently KB spoke at length with the staff and gaffa. He wanted to know his chances of making it with us. We were honest, and believed it was too much of a good opportunity for him to turn down. And if he really progresses to the level he believes he is capable, we would sign him. There are all sorts of conditions his new club had to agree to.

Same will apply if certain of our very young professionals end up in similar clubs.

Least he won't be knackered by the end of next season.

Crazy that a 19 year old believes his time has past - I'm not saying either he, or Poch, are wrong (if it's correct), but surely he still has time
