Wow! Exceptionally worded and couldn't have put a lot of it better myself! One thing that i will say however is that i think fans can be the worst enemy when it comes to this kind of thing. Imagine the difference of fan reaction if we were to sign Ndombele to if we were to offer an U23 a first team spot... The clubs feel that pressure and feel as though they need to put their hands in their pockets and write big cheques for shiny new signings in order to sell shirts and get people through the gate.

Agree, I think there are pressures from fans, to make a signing rather than give a chance to a player 95% of fans won't have heard of. If it goes badly the managers will take the flak, but like I said you need to show guts. Buying players is also the easy way out. Even bottom half clubs nowadays won't think twice about dropping over 10m on an average player as the risk of money loss isn't that large in terms of the potential financial rewards. So the 'experience' they buy they see as worth it, despite the fact that they are at that level as they either are good but can't perform consistently and have poor decision making, or are just poor players. And yet they will value that 'experience' more over their own talented academy players as they seem to think that those 'experienced' players who are inconsistent are more reliable than a youngster.

Unfortunately missed the game, but seems like they gave him is first start to prepare them for their future. Interestingly it seems the Siberia coaching staff rate him over Nastasic, who at 19 everyone wanted to buy. Maybe more evidence of who ever comes through first isn't necessarily the best player or even the player who has a a great debut season may still not necessarily be better than what you have. We know who everyone rated higher at 16/17/18/19 between Lukaku and Kane, as one was a lot more physically developed.

For a kid making one of his first senior starts, in a huge occasion, against one of the best teams in the world right now, he was absolutely fine.

Let's not sugar coat it because he's ex-Spurs. Sure, it was his first appearance against a good side etc. But he wasn't fine. Didn't even rate a 6 on Whoscored:

That "score" is an algorithm made up by aggregating pure numbers. Headers won, tackles made, goals conceded, passes completed. It's very hard to use basic stats for defenders at the best of times, as making lots of tackles and headers and clearances etc, doesn't mean you are a great defender, Dawson used to make more of those than King for example. And whoscored's rating score is just an amalgamation of various things - including goals scored etc. You can use it to maybe back up an opinion to say "and his numbers were good on whoscored" but it's pretty meaningless as a stand alone thing. It can be effected by things like just winning a headed duel, which doesn't always mean you've played well, it just means the ball came your way and you headed it.

I din't think Veljkovic was magnificent but, as I said, for a kid in such circumstances (first game, huge game, v Brazil etc) I thought he did OK. Certainly no worse than most of the CB's in this WC, including Stones, McGuire and Walker.

If you watched the game, tell me why you think he was so bad? And how that whocsred rating relates to that ?

Have to admit that I can't begrudge him this kind of move. Shows the right kind of ambition. Wants to make it as far as he can as a player, not just earn 30k a week for 3 to 4 years (Chelski move would have indicated that....the wrong kind of ambition).

If I were an agent trying to map out a career path with the greatest chance of top end success for a talented teenager I think psv would be right up at the top of possible destinations.

Ben Knight has also joined City for 1m so if we were looking to get him, that's not happening. Should have stayed at Ipswich or gone abroad

You don't move there for the opportunities. Disappointing decision by him. If quality development & first team chances were his aim then a move abroad would have been the way to go. He's taken the money. There's no other way of looking at it.

I think it's a great move for someone under 16. He will get some of the best coaching in the world and play along other fantastic players. What he then wants to do is not sign a professional contract at 18 and fuck off abroad to get game time.

City aren't daft. I'm sure they'll have thrown in a guarantee of a professional contract at the end of it. Why throw a mill at Ipswich & a mill at the kid for a couple of years association only for him to saunter off abroad for nothing. I'm sure they must have learnt their lesson by now.

I doubt City are paying 1m for him if he hasn't pre-agreed/signed a pro contract.

If he is in full time education he can't sign a pro contract until he is 18. I don't think you can sign a pre contract either.
