Amazingly the Spurs new website has come up early with regards to the new first years. Nine of the scholars I expected but the one I didn't was Rafferty Pedder (cmf). I think one or two of our more knowledgeable contributors had suggested he might be signed. What I do know was that he was highly regarded but has been plagued by injuries. Perhaps someone could give more information on him. As an aside I notice that Rio Glean (last years U16's FW ) has signed scholarship forms with Southampton.

I heard Luis Binks was signing a new contract a while ago. I know his uncle through other friends. Good luck to him, it would be great to see him do well, he’s a CB I believe.

That looks like a pretty strong intake. Binks, Walcott, Bennett, Asante, Parrott are all highly rated, correct?

i like cirkin, white, bennett and parrott from what i've seen so far but then that is only over a handful of games. binks i have a mixed impression of as he looked impressive the first couple of times i saw him but then less so after. chay cooper looks to have some good ability too but struggled a bit physically, pedder i've not seen. naturally though it's too early to really tell so will have a better idea of them once they've had a year of u18s at least.

It isn't being idiotic. Managers jobs rely on results on the pitch. They are not going to risk their jobs to blood a 17 year old when they can buy a ready made international from abroad. Especially as they will be long gone before they mature.

And this is one of my issues with Poch's tenure even moreso than other managers. Ignoring the reputation he had before he came, he was given a 5 year contract initially, and is the 8th longest serving manager in the football league and has been backed by another long contract. So if Poch with one of the best academies in the World with 4 years at a club and further backing from the owner can't do it, what other manager can?

It helps Chelsea retain the best players, it helps those players development enormously and then, worse case scenario, it ensures a much bigger fee.

That would seem better than the system we are currently employing, where the better players are stagnating in their development, and some are now starting to jump ship for relatively little/no fee.

If we are to continue with trying to foster an “elite” academy, then we really need to evolve the process, and actually offering the players some kind of opportunity to develop, and what better than sending them abroad to get good coaching and play competitive games in countries where a better tolerance of youth development is endemic.

I was being a bit facetious, I generally agree and would like what Chelsea have with Vitesse, as we are really struggling with the development side atm. As you say one of the biggest assets in having an academy is developing talent to generate fees to reinvest in the first team. And as ours aren't developing atm getting a link abroad would be great.

My point was more, would it benefit our first team, and while I think it should, Chelsea have shown that no matter how well someone plays at Vitesse they still won't really get a chance, and I' like to think Poch would be different but there is nothing to suggest he will be. I think our players will still get the returning from loan treatment rather than, almost like singing a top youngster treatment.

I agree about Poch, but I still think it's a win/win. The players get real development opportunity, both footballing and character, and we get a better developed player to either integrate (hope) or sell for better fee.

The whole training with Poch thing is wonderful in theory, if there is a real intention to give those players some kind of chance, even small, incremental ones, but if not, they are much better going on intelligently targeted loans, ideally somewhere we we have some kind of relationship and maybe even coaching input or at least proper monitoring.

Christian Maghoma came on as a sub in the 60th minute for his new club Arka Gdynia in the Polish Supercup, which they won beating Legia Warsaw 3-2.

Ryan Loft has signed for Leicester on a 2 year deal. I didn't see that coming, I thought he would join a League One or even League Two club.

On the back of a good (and rather unexpected) World Cup you would have thought that just maybe the clubs would get behind the England program. Not so, much to my anger. England have just announced their U19 squad for the UEFA U19 Championship starting today. What has happened is that England have announced basically a reserve team (including 3 who have never played for England at any level). We have some really good players at this level who should be playing, not just for the honour, but for valuable tournament experience. But of course English clubs have not released some players (strangely those with foreign managers - with some notable exceptions). In fact I can reel off 9 certain starters with ease :- Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Phil Foden. Jadon Sancho, Ryan Sessegnon, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah , Reece James and Joe Willock. Others like Andre Dozzell are injured but to say these nine are injured is clearly not true. I could mention others who have appeared regularly in the squad this past year such as Morgan Gibbs-White, Flynn Downes, Trystan Nydam, Keanan Bennetts and Ben Wilmott who are not in the squad. Absolutely shameful from our clubs and shame on the FA to let them get away with it. I know some of you on this site are not bothered but the one thing I do know Spurs, to their credit, have always released their young players. It should be remembered that the semi-finalists in this tournament qualify for next years U20 WORLD CUP in which we are the holders. I am not saying we won't reach the semi's but given the group we are in (includes France) our chances are not great.
