Sam Cox is a class bloke. He was absolutely loved by everyone at the club. He was never going to be a good enough player but he was just a natural captain on and off the field. Making the transition to coaching makes so much sense.

I’d definitely be judging the kids on the US tour not today. They’ve just come back from schlaping around America for 2 weeks plus we only flew in this morning hardly ideal. Add the sweltering heat and getting lumps kicked out of us, all in all it was a horrible fixture. Just hope we’ve come away without any injuries.

Yes against a tough team who saw and took the opportunity to bully them.
Looked very dispirited by the end and were playing as individuals
which of course they were.
Perhaps good in the long run in the spirit of
'whatever doesn't kill you
makes you stronger' line of thinking.
Thought Davis was as bad
if not worse than the kids.

Our u16s are playing in a Cup. Struggling to find the competition but I think it is in Riga. . Haven't watched yet, so don't know the squad, but full game is below. I intend to watch, and will give names when I do but if anyone watches beforehand and recognises players or finds the squad list please put them down.

Good game this. Well-weighted pass for the 2nd goal by Matthew Craig, and lovely little assist from Michael Craig for his brother who finished excellently in the last minute to win. Both 2 footed, really like them. John is always excellent and I can see why England like Lusala very competent player and rapid

Commented in the other thread but will ask here - is the constant fouling something they are used to in youth football? Just wondered if it might be putting them off their stride a bit?

Don't think so. I've only ever seen a few 'dirty' games at youth level, not a constant cynical disruption, as I don't think coaches encourage it

Perhaps I'm overly optimistic but could our lack of action in the transfer market be that we've finally decided not to buy stop gaps but trust the academy kids instead?

I'd love to say yes.

The thought of a Eriksen, Winks and Onomah midfield still excites me, with Edwards adding to the forward options.

Realistically though, it still looks like Onomah needs time to adapt to the men's game (frustrating timing with his injury though, as I'm sure he'd have been heavily involved in pre-season otherwise) and Edwards looks to have shot himself in the foot.

Stranger things have happened though.

Does anyone know if Omari Forson has definitely left?

I've tried searching on Google but can only see the article where it states Everton and Man City want him. Maybe it's just speculation and he's not actually moving (hopefully)?

i don't think anyone knows for definite but everything would point to him having left, he's not been involved in any of the recent u15/u16 tournaments either.

Thank you.

Hopefully he's had a change of mind or at the very least, tried our best to retain him but it looks ominous. We're losing too many of our best youngsters, which doesn't;t bode well.

Hertha is one of Germanys top youth producers. Their U19s won the equivalent of the FA Youth Cup in may and the year groups beneath them are also considered to be very strong. The team we beat did have their 2 top players (Thorben Rhein and Nemanja Motika) poached by Bayern last year, mind.

Hertha has a massive built-in advantage at youth level: the only top division team in Berlin, which is nearly as big and as ethnically diverse as London. Plus it is a huge distance from all other cities with first division teams. Imagine if we got our pick of all the top talent in London. That's their reality. Beating them is a good achievement.

Ye I saw he posted on his instagram. Impressive acheivement when you consider a) he's a defender who rarely get noticed, though I recall Eyoma and I think Tangnaga have won POTT awards before, b) he was playing up an age group and c) taking into account @Matecheck info he was competing with another impressive academy. Funnily enough I didn't think much of him when he was an u13, but he really stood out as an u14. Definitely doing something well on the CB front as we're averaging one CB in the England set up for each age group.

3 youth tournament wins in the last 3/4 months. 2 for the 04 age group and one for the 03s featuring the best of the 04s.

Also I must say I was never massively sold on this u16 age group, I know we've had quite a few called up to the England camps but only one regular in John and arguably Lusala. However, they have looked really good in this tournament and some players I haven't really understood the hype about have looked good, like Siziba. Also, while I've never seen Robson, Aird-Munn, and Carrington really standout there is a lot of talk about them from those who probably are exposed to them more than me and apparently they were quality against Bury. Muir is someone I've always thought looked good. Let's hope they all continue to progress this season

Talking about young players getting opportunities in England. Mason Mount goes to the Ere Divisie, scores 10+ goals from midfield. Doesn't get him in Chelsea's 1st team squad, doesn't even get him a PL loan move. Ended up in the championship and scored on his debut. Chelsea yesterday looked like they could do with him.

So I think while we could do better bringing youth into the first team, we're definitely not the only ones.

Of course not but I don't think comparing ourselves to Chelsea is what we want to do, when 95% of our fans have been mocking/criticising Chelsea for the last 5 years with regards to how badly they treat their academy and never give chances. A lot of people would have having to eat humble pie as we align ourselves to Chelsea's method of development and start to give as few chances as them

I think if your academy is top class bringing through one young player per year is not unreasonable. If they manage to give Hudson-Odoi chances this year they will be a great achievement for them. They've also given Abraham and RLC actual squad numbers, which seems to suggest they may at least look at them, which is positive. Even just taking Hudson-Odoi into account it would be hard for them to also introduce Mount, as bringing through academy players is a delicate balance, even though he is someone I think they need.

But the Mount example is a perfect example of the struggles of coming through a PL club. He outperforms Kluivert who has moved to a CL club and will likely play in the CL and Serie A next year. Mount instead goes to loan the Championship. I missed the Derby game but by all accounts it was a disjointed performances. Mount could easily struggle in the team this year, look poor in the Championship and then you'll get, he's not ready for the PL and he was overhyped. As I say hard to bring them all through at once, but at least try when their tails are up
