Great clips cheers.TOB is so dembele like it's freaky. And Eyoma looks class .The one for me is Roles ,it's said a lot about others but he does remind me of a young gerrard just his build and the way he arrives in the box.Really exciting crop of kids .
Edwards was obviously superb.Really like bennetts got everything to be a top class wing back pace and size and a great touch.Aldo really like Roles ,he does remind me of a young Gerrard tall and wirey great touch and scores goals. So many that could potentially make it very exciting.
Always liked Roles and he definitely has an eye for goal. When I first saw him reminded me of a young Btec stevie g which I suppose somewhat equates to the dele comparison tonight. With so many on loan he should get plenty of game time.

How come you have changed your opinion so drastically @coys200?

I agree with your earlier assessments of Roles as I think end product and decision making are 2 of his main strengths and don't understand why he is always overlooked.

Because he’s young I will obviously change my opinion if he doesn’t progress the way I thought he would. 18 months ago I was very optimistic on Roles. But for whatever reason he hasn’t really kicked on imo. I’m sure every single poster in this thread changes their opinion on the vast majority of players from when first seen at say 16 through to 20.

My pennies worth on Roles

He seems to have been the odd man out for a while now. Was never a certain starter for the 18s nor 23s now but what always struck me with him was his end product and decision making was extremely impressive. He contributes goals, assists and has a fantastic knack of being in the right place at the right time. He has clearly put on a fair amount of bulk and is likely having to adjust to his physique a tad. I think he could surprise a few people.

I must confess i haven't seen a lot of Roles, but if i was to compare him to somebody i would say Thomas Muller. Jack Roles (he scores goals). Just seems to pop up and score when you need it.
Even looks a bit like him!

Sounds similar to Alli to me.

Typical onomah display strolling around. Had one nice burst that makes you think he’s half decent. Then carries on strolling around. Amazing considering it’s his 1st performance you’d think he’d be busting a gut.

Just have a look on Twitter. Onomah seems to have a 6-7/10 rating. Seems that he is already the best performer of the team, although all other players had a bad night apparently.

I only watched first 25 minutes. Seems to have got mixed reviews. But come on we are supposed to be a CL team and one of our targets Ndombele was ripping up city. That’s the level of player we need to be looking at. Not hoping Onomah will eventually come good, I don’t see any progression in his game from 2 years ago.

It’s his first start for them let’s see how the season goes before we rush into judgment?

That's a pity, he isn't that young anymore. I'd want him to start to look a class above everyone else at this level by now ideally

Noone changes their opinion as much as you though. If anyone does they'll say after seeing them initially, not sure on him, or he shows promise, then comment on whether he has improved or declined.

You will say 'can't see what other people see, just a poor Gary Docherty' then a year later go 'always liked that lad, think he could be the next Messi' or vice versa depending on the player. You've done the same with Skipp, Maghoma, Roles and there will be a lot more. I'm not the forum police but how your present your opinion can be frustrating. It's why people will call you out on it, and then not take you seriously. The 'danger' is that when you go onto claim you have watched so and so 100s of times people, who don't watch much are going to actually pay attention to what you have to say, when you're actually going off very little. They'll form their opinion off that, and assume so and so is rubbish after you're writing someone off after a couple of games.

Its not a competition on who can 'call it first'. No one is trying to prove anyone is more of an expert than anyone else on here, we all share information and go off what we have available. It's OK to say, 'I'm not sure on this player, I haven't see enough' rather than giving a final view after 5 u23 matches just to say you knew before everyone else.

Absolutely guarantee Roles will get nowhere near the 1st team or even squad. To start with as a 10 or AM he is competing with eriksen dele lamela. If you seriously think he is anywhere even close to them I’d worry for your judgment. And this isn’t based on 1 game I’ve seen him plenty.
As guru said the reason Roles won't get anywhere near the first team is because no one will really get near our first team. I could literally name any academy player in the last few years and no matter how good they were predict they wouldn't get into the first team and look a genius.

I feel his development stalled last yearas I don't feel he played much last year, but he has a lot characteristics that would make him a good footballer but needs to get stronger first and play regular u23s.

Sounds similar to Alli to me.

The most comparable player, even down to the dark arts

Do you think we would be better suited selling some of these players with options to buy back or loaning them out?

onomah will always be one of those players who divide opinion. even tonight you've got half of wednesday's fans saying he was impressive and one of few positives, then you've got the other half saying he was shit and lazy. despite being "lazy" he still managed to rack up the most tackles of any player on the pitch and twice as many as any of his teammates, also completed the most dribbles and was the most fouled. he was a bit shaky to start with and got caught on the ball a couple of times but soon began to grow into the game, unfortunately his foul led to them conceding but he picked it up again after that. he was playing as the deepest cm so a lot of defensive responsibility on his shoulders, i'd rather he had a holder alongside him but it's preferable to seeing him play high up the pitch like he did at villa. overall i'd say it was a passable first start, not sure if he's done enough to keep his place but at least it looks as though he'll get games in the position in which he needs to play if he's to make it with us so it's up to him now.

So both Edwards and Onomah in the last games made the most tackles despite being lazy players with attitude problems. It's almost as if body language or movement isn't as important as what they're actually doing. As I've always said they're no Oliver Skipps when it comes to getting around the pitch, but and with Onomah in particular if your completing the most dribbles, making the most tackles and found the most as the defensive most midfielder and people are still calling you lazy you're on a hiding to nothing. I'd like to see how much ground he actually covers compare to other players in the team, I have no idea if it will be high or low, but I've never thought he was lazy and will be intrigued as to whether it would support or disprove my inkling. Must be a reason why international coaches love him.

Sounds like a good start, either way.
