I don’t really get the Marsh one it’s one too many Scott Parker clones. I just don’t really see the point of blooding him when Winks and Skipp are obviously going to be better. I’d rather see a couple more flair players like Maghoma or Shashoua even TOB has more about him than Marsh. Maybe it was shop window as it’s January.

Weird Marsh got a look in and TOB still playing for u23’s?

What was the point in bringing TOB through and then putting him back?

Good to see the youth get on today , they all did very well . It does seem though that we are just not bothered about the attacking players , every youth player we are introducing seems to be of the same calibre , I just can’t see how that’s going to work in the long run as they are all very similar , and do the same job . I saw a glimpse of Sterling at the end , surely this was a good game for him to play.

perhaps relevant:

it does seem that the more attacking/exciting players at spurs are being held to a higher standard. roles for example has surely been the academy's standout player so far this season and yet he doesn't seem to be in the picture at all, we've seen that jamie bowden has been with the first team these past few days and not to put him down at all but he very much falls into the same category as all the other midfielders poch seems to be drawn to.

In regards to CMs being considered over AMs currently (Bowden being with first team over Roles)

Senior AMs currently fit - Eriksen, Ali, Son, Lucas and GKN.
Senior CMs currently fit - Winks and Sissoko (arguably also a AM).

I understand the point you are making and in the past I would have said Roles cannot play CM but he has improved so much that he is twice the player he was last year.

Two games he played this year have completely changed my mind as to Roles capable of playing CM and they are City at home he played CM and Finished the game stronger than Skipp did and that takes some doing.

The other game was the Oxford United game,he started that game very deep and was picking the ball up from the keeper and he was our main player throughout that match.

Bottom line for me Roles is ready and can play in any position across the Midfield and is not just a AM.

I appreciate some on here know much more about our youngsters than me but it seems that above all else Poch values attitude and approach, it might just be that some of our more precocious players don't show as much desire as the likes of Skipp and Marsh. I'm positive that Edwards is a perfect example of that. And bear in mind competing with Eriksen, Alli, Son, Moura and Lamela is a daunting task. Due to injury we're pretty light in CM, a knock to Winks or Sissoko and we're in trouble.

I honestly believe that if we have kids that are good enough with the right approach they'll get a chance regardless of where they play.

We have (had) forward thinking CMs that aren't getting a look either though. Seems only the safe ones are getting chances. Winks, Skipp, Marsh, Amos even are all the same sort of player. TOB has been injured or out of form but was placed in first team training and then stopped actually playing for ages at youth level despite not getting senior minutes. Onomah was never once played in central midfield, yet poch is happy to play Skipp, Winks, and Marsh there. Marsh isn't as good as Shashoua or Maghoma, who have both been excellent for the u18s this season, and given Skipp and Eyoma are there from that team, I don't see why either of those two couldn't be there either. It's just a bit strange imo.

To add to that, surely these are the sorts of games where you give young attacking players opportunities and rest the senior blokes. Given our injury record and the fact that Sonny is off soon, it could have been done. They aren't going to get minutes at any other point in the season.

You'd have to assume he just didn't impress enough at the time, doesn't mean he's finished but has been leapfrogged for the time being at least.

As @edson said we're definitely controlling things. Bennett has been picked out a few times and he hasn't got the ball under control quick enough so he hasn't managed to get the shot off or set someone up. Looming a bit rusty.

Paris is playing excellently showing his skills dropped a man on edge of the box. Cirkin also deserves q mention. Tbf theyre all playing very well atm

Do not know if it is just me but Binks looks to be getting stronger and seems to be getting a bit faster?

Got to disagree. For me it always takes more desire and a positive attitude to try risky, positive or creative moves. You will get down on yourself or hear the moans & groans from the coaches and crowd if things don't come off.

It's always been safer for 1st team managers to promote less risky young players because they "know what they will get" from them. To dare is to do!

Really feels like from next season we will have got rid of the majority of the dross in the U23 ranks and 75% of our youth ranks will have a serious chance. When you look at that U18 team today I’d say 7 or 8 have a realistic chance. We might be a little low on sparkling superstars but the overall standard and depth certainly appears to be improving. Which is great squad wise for the seniors. If you’ve got even 4 or 5 academy players you can count on in an emergency as Skipp has filled in that’s a big plus.

Binks has definitely bulked up.

Final ball was atrocious today. Jneill had a rare off day and Paris playing for himself didn't help.

A mention for Okedina who was faultless.
