Much like being 'spursy', if the fans perpetuate this notion that it's the stadium then that will of course drip down to the players. As it happens I don't think it has anything to do with the stadium but the standard of opposition and simply being unlucky. Yes we've lost or drawn to some shit there but there is always mitigating circumstances.

Granted we can't live on that forever but you'll see next week that this hoodoo is bollocks

Surely winning games there disprove this "myth"?

Is there another way?
Yeah but Burnley mate. We absolutely should be beating burnley on the dark side of the moon - if we don't it says something grave ...

But not beating the league champions at home, isn't proof of some kind of hoodoo is it? We've played Chelsea 5 times, Monaco once and United once at the new Wembley. In comparison, arsenal have played teams like Hull/Villa/Reading there in that time.

Leverkusen/Gent/Portsmouth I will concede were poor but we've had poor results at the Lane too.

Wembley is really starting to look like a handicap for us, anyone who thinks differently is ignoring the stats.

We had a chance to put the media Wembley myth / curse agenda to bed today and we fucked it up.

Only blessing I see is that we have 3 relatively easy "home" games ( on paper) before we play Liverpool end of October.

We really need to win all of them and our away games going into that game.

Wembley didn't seem a problem today. Atmosphere was good and seemed to cope with the pitch. The problem was that Chelsea parked the bus and did it to perfection. Plus we had some key players off song

The big teams know how to make Wembley work for them - Chelsea today absolutely did a number on us and worked their pre-game plan to perfection.

We on the other hand struggle to try and make our team work at the stadium, rather than use it to benefit us.

This season will be a struggle and we will have some bad results, but in the long run it should teach the team/management/club how to win at Wembley on a regular basis, which will be invaluable for future cup semi's/finals etc.

It's absolutely not a myth, though.

We need to start seeing results, not just making excuses.

I don't see how having players that can run faster would have won us that match. It's lazy analysis.

Sorry oh salient one. Because we play in front of teams, and turning defences is how you beat the low block. Pretty obvious we're missing the pace of Walker and Rose in wide areas, if you think having 2 slow players there instead is working on the massive pitch than having fast players then good for you.

If only the players were as convinced on that

So basically, you're saying that we could have won it but for the players not playing to their potential because Wembley...

I don't think there's much evidence for that. They didn't look inhibited in any way to me. Wanyama didn't look 100% sharp on his first start, we know Trippier can get caught out by a fast winger, Chelsea defended like mad for 75% of the game, we could have scored more as could they: in short, a normal decent game of football between two top sides at the start of the season. Just a shite result.
