Teams have been setting up in this way to face us for a long time. It rarely works for them. We're pretty decent at breaking down low Blocks. The only thing that grinds my gears are the numerous shots from outside the box. It cedes possession, give the opposing team a breather, and very rarely lead to goals, even if we're quite good at them.
We'd be better off recycling the ball in front of their block to make them anxious and impatient. Save most of the efforts from range until we've gone ahead.

The thing that most annoyed me from the Swansea game was not using Llorente once we'd brought him on.

I don't think Wembley made one iota of difference to yesterdays result.
We could not break Swansea's defensive set-up and IMO it wouldn't have been different if we were still at WHL. We didn't create many clear cut chances and when we did we weren't efficient in our finishing.
Took a lucky pen to break through their defense last season win some lose some draw some

The reason why we have won less matches at Wembley is mainly because we tend to play better sides there. To play at Wembley usually means that you are in the latter stages of a competition.
Pretty redundant point now especially if we dont beat Barnsley, we havent beat an english team at wembley in how many attempts?

Hit the nailsy on the headsy.

Brought our big fella on and didn't put a ball into him until the 92nd minute. He was on for 20+ mins and I'd be amazed if he had more than 5 touches

Only ever as good as the manager.
We just don't seem to be able to appoint the right "man" any time lately.

It's not just down to the manager. Wales have Chris fucking Coleman and they got to the semis in their first international cup competition in 50 years.

I don't think anyone knows what England issue is. Probably lots of things.

Another flat performance today, need to improve a lot against Liverpool

But arguably our best performance has been against one of the top 10 teams in the world, Dortmund. I actually look forward to us playing bigger teams at Wembley.

One, they don't raise their game as they have played there many times before, it's nothing new to the likes of United, City and Liverpool etc.

Two, they won't sit back, they will attack us, which is when we seem at our best.

Three, it's big club, the players are usually more up for it against them.

Let's see how this pans out, for me the Dortmund game was one of Poch's best games as manager and one of our greatest performances, other than Red Bull at the weekend they have been destroying teams this year.

Been discussing this on another forum, but if you look at our home form at the beginning of the last 2 seasons it was actually quite flat and took us until November to really hit our stride at home.

In the 2015/16 season we drew 4 and won 2 of our first six home games. It's actually where we lost the title to Leicester and not the end of the campaign (although obviously that didn't help).

Last year there wasn't a lot of difference. 1-0 v Palace, 1-1 v Liverpool, 1-0 v Sunderland, 2-0 v City, Leicester 1-1, West Ham 3-2. It wasn't until the 5 nil thrashing of Swansea that we suddenly looked amazing at home apart from the Man City game that was such a marker for both teams for the season.

Plus last season was a massive freak season at whl. I'd be amazed if a team this season has a played 19 won 17 draw 2 record at home or another team does in the next decade. So although I'm in agreement that Wembley is poor, a slow start to the season at home isn't unusual.

I agree.

Every club that has come to Wembley this season except for Chelsea and Dortmund just filled their penalty box full of players. Consequently if you have 1-3 attackers again 8 + goalie, there is no room to pass and if you shoot, it gets blocked. We play a high line so everyone tries to hit us on the counter.

If Liverpool don't park the bus, and I don't think they will, and if we play with a high tempo, could be a very open game

After the Liverpool and Madrid results we've finally put the hoodoo to bed ( West Ham was a freak), and now teams will worry about coming to Wembley to play us, not look forward to it.

Feeling a lot more confident about the rest of the season now.

Think there's still a question mark until we batter one of the league's weaker sides at home that come to park the bus instead of grinding out a nervy 1-0 like we did against Bournemouth. It would be so fucking typically Spurs to beat Real Madrid and then drop points at home to bottom of the league Crystal Palace a few days later.

I think this thread needs to be brought up periodically as the season progresses, to test a few of the theories in here

Poch mentioned recently that he's finding playing at Wembley difficult. Mainly, because the 'weaker' sides see it as a massive cup final fixture, or something like that, and so are well up for it. Indeed, many of these players will only get 1 chance in their careers to play at Wembley...against us!!

And of course if you contrast that attitude with ours, who see playing at Wembley as a ball-ache until the new stadium is finished, then it's obvious to see that there's a serious problem here

Added to this, not only is the above a disadvantage by itself, it also doesn't allow us to get a string of decent performances under our belt at home, to then use as a platform to get a run of form going

Our performance tonight against Leicester was a million miles from the confidence and swagger of last season. I believe that a phenomenal run of results at WHL strongly contributed to that; a run of form that looks almost unobtainable whilst at Wembley

Okay, I'm going to say it; I think we've completely screwed ourselves by choosing to play at Wembley. The stakes are so high at the top of the league, whether it be fighting for a title or 'just' a fourth place spot, any advantage/disadvantage is acutely felt

Playing our 'home' games at Wembley isn't a slight disadvantage; it's a whopping great handicap

Incidentally, have any other teams in world football been in our situation?

Namely, move out of their stadium and into a national area (potentially with a history to it) for a season?

Be interesting to see how they faired
