A better story is the one detailing how he fucked off half way through his contract. It shows what a prick he was / is and why it is completely ridiculous to refer to him - as some do - as a club 'legend'.

German player nearing end of his career has one final chance to do so, takes it, shocker.

The person you should be mad at is whoever put the clause in which allowed that to happen.

As for Klinsmann, not many players have provided that much joy in such little time as he did, so while I agree that legend is too far, it’s more than understandable that many of us, even if not you, remember him fondly.

No matter how imperfectly-written the contract may have been, it was Klinsmann's decision to dishonour it. You may hold a man without scruples in high esteem if you wish; I choose not to.

Surely dishonouring a contract would be doing something not permitted by a contract, no?

Anyway, I’m not going to try and convince you otherwise as it’s an opinion you’ll have held for a quarter of a century so who am I to question it :)

He was arguably the best striker in the world (with Romario) at that time after a great personal World Cup and it was fantastical that he should join a mid-table team that we were- I still remember the headline on teletext and the delirious shock...scored some fantastic goals and we were media darlings for about 2 and a half weeks. He left without bitterness from the fans and came back to save us from relegation don't forget. Legend.
