Genuine question to which I would appreciate an answer; although our transfer window is now closed, can we still sign players with a view to bringing them here in January?

This window has been like my summer... so much promise and ending in an unmitigated disaster.

Spurs - we’ll make statements signings for the new stadium.

Me - given a £50k gift by my parents. Looking forward to buying a house with my partner.

Spurs - targets not at the WC but waiting to post WC, hmmm

Me - partner devotes life to God.

Spurs - transfer plans start to look like we don’t have a clue what we’re doing.

Me - partner has a breakdown, gets violent and displays traits of bipolar and borderline personality disorder.

Spurs - shit hits the fan, we don’t sign anyone.

Me - had a lovely weekend away with my partner, tells me she loves me and asks me to never leave her. 2 hours later she texts it’s over and leaves whilst I’m at work. No explanation nothing... she’s had an exorcism apparently and God will sort her out.

So yeah this summer from a Spurs and personal perspective has been the most disheartening experience of my life.

i hope this is a joke if not i'm sorry. Sounds like u have experienced hell.

I for one is rapt that we did no signings.

I would rather back our own young players in like Winks than over pay for someone like Grealish who won't improve first XI and is not even certain that he is better than back up players we already have.

I look at our squad and we have 28 capable EPL players. The only position that I wish we had better quality is left wing/left forward - a backup for Son.
N'koudou is currently penciled in for that role and i'm willing to give him a chance to stake his claim. His a young player with speed and looked decent in preseason. If he fails then we can have look at Georgiou to get some minutes. And the likes of Dele and Eriksen can fill that role if we choose to go with a more defensive 3 man midfield.

I was feeling confident that my theory on Poch and his comments on being brave but I've since seen this which mean I can't be right!

All I’ll say on #Spurs is this: When Pochettino said the club need to “be brave” and “take risks”, and he sometimes has “crazy ideas”, did anyone think to interpret that as not rushing out to spend on new players, and instead make space for more youngsters to come through?

Not directed at you as i know you were just addressing something else.

The Hansen kids comments need to die now, it was a different reality then, the two eras are not comparable at all.
Absolutely plus like I said how often did that happen apart from at united?

Looking at the team now that the window has closed:
GK: HL, MV, PG (sorted)
RB/LB: KT, BD, KWP, SA, DR (sorted) ---- as long as Danny doesn't leave although clearly that would be Poch backing KWP for the LB spot....but would like to keep DR
CB: JV, DS, JF and TA (Toby the key here - if true that he and Poch are 100% fine we are sorted)
DM: ED, VW, JO (the deeper lying midfield position - if big Vic's fitness ok we are good)
CM2: HW, MD, LA (a gap in the squad currently filled by the GOAT but will he stay?) If HW remains fit and Dembele stays and Amos is a back up we are fine). BUT would have loved Grealish as another option.
AMR: EL, LM (sorted)
AMC: CE, XX (who is cover for CE - again Grealish would have been a super option because Lamela is already counted as a right sided option)
AML: SHM, DA (sorted once Sonny returns)
ST: HK, FL (let's pray Kane is fit and firing for the season and Fernando can get his head around his role....or Alli/ Son can show they are able to step up.

Haven't listed MS, GKN, VJ of course

IF Toby is fit, back in the fold and ok + DR stays, the GK/DEF is in v good shape. CM is all about fitness 100%.
Striker, let's see about Kane assistance.

Amazing though that if we had added Grealish to that group and didn't have the uncertainty over TA, MD and DR....this would be a v good squad.

The supporters trust have put out a statement

http://www.thstofficial.com/thst-news/thst-comment-on-transfer-window

“We have much to be proud of at Spurs. Nine of our players featured in the World Cup semi-finals. Over the last few years, a manager we revere has forged an exciting team that has challenged for top honours. And more fans than the Club cares to acknowledge recognise the challenges and achievements of running a sustainable business and building a top class stadium.

But fans come to watch the team. A team that will start the season with many of its key members still tired after the World Cup. And a squad that most rational observers would agree could benefit from more depth. It is not unreasonable to question if it was really the case that, alone among Europe’s top clubs, Spurs could find no player who would improve their squad while our rivals strengthened theirs.

Earlier this year, the Club objected to THST’s criticism of steep ticket price rises. It told us we could not expect players to be signed or wages to be competitive while we opposed those ticket price rises. Fans have paid the prices asked. And yet no signings have been made.

We know that gate receipts are no longer as fundamental as they once were for financing transfer fees or wages. But ticketing income at Spurs is now higher than it has ever been. We are curious as to what that money has been used for. We have been told the stadium build will not affect transfer spending.

We are told that we don’t have to sign players because we develop our youth. Yet four of our most promising prospects left the Club this summer. Of the current first team squad, just two regulars have come up through the ranks.

We love what has been developed, but for all the great football we’ve seen over the last few seasons, there are no trophies to show.

We have the highest paid Chairman in the Premier League. Our fans pay some of the highest prices in world football. Our support for our team and our admiration for what has been achieved remains strong. However, we believe fans are entitled to a full and credible explanation of what has happened this summer.”

Not reading this whole nuclear thread..If similar has been posted I apologise.

Lloris, Trippier, Jan, Sanchez, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane.
Lamela, Vorm, Moura, Wanyama, Llorente, Winks
Davies, Aurier, Toby, Gazzinga, Walker-Peters, Foyth, Carter Vickers. Playing all the kids this season..... What a rubbish squad.....

Some of you grown men and women need to get a grip.

Wah wah wah where is our shiny new players to get excited over. No new player is walking into our first eleven. Sure our depth could be improved but it's not THAT bad.

We kept Toby. If we can get him happy and playing well again then we've got the best back 3 in the league again. Trippier showed at the World cup what he can do. Davies was one of the best full backs in the league last year. Wanyama was monstrous when he joined but was hampered by injury. We know what Dembele can do. As for our attacking players, probably the best we've had for a long, long, long time.

Yes it's great excitement when we get a new player joining. I think that's actually have the reason people are so desperate to see us sign someone. Take a breath, look at what we've achieved so far under this manager. He himself has even said there's no point in signing someone just for the sake of signing someone. I'm sure most will avoid that and just put the blame on Levy because it's the easy option to join the bandwagon. A bit of perspective and reflection is required.

Ok, here' my rant, and also some advise for Baldy....

Son will not play after first game.
Lloris,Kane,Dele,Jan,Dembele,Toby,Dier,Trippier,Rose all not match fit.
Wanyama,Foyth,Lamela,Winks,Sissoko injured.
Toby,Dembele,Rose may still leave by 31st. Yet no signing...

Levy is the only reason for this. He voted for PL window to shut early knowing that other EU windows were open.Failed to back manager when there is overwhelming evidence that squad needed players.Villa played himself in his own game, moving the goal post.

Levy still has to chance to redeem himself.

1) Toby is key to everything. Offer him good compromising new deal and let Poch-Toby iron out differences and make sure Toby signs it. Backline of Toby,Sanchez,Jan is the best in the league. No other team has such a good back 3.

2) New deals for Eriksen,Dele,Vertonghen,Lloris required.

3) Get the deadwoods out by August 31. Sell/Loan Janssen,Rose,Llorente. Cut the deadwood and create space for Jan window

4) Hope that our squad pulls through ,plays well and be in good position by Jan.

5) Sign some fucking quality players in Jan and give Poch a fighting chance of winning something or atleast be in CL.

That's a hell of a summer mate. Everything will pass though brother. It probably doesn't feel like it but count this as a blessing. It's better she left you now before you had kids. I've been there where there's kids involved and then you have to see them forever. Can be a mind fuck at worst, and a hassle at best.
Your a young, handsome dude, you'll Defo find someone better for you.
Hope i wasn't too forward
Good luck.

If Alderweireld knuckles down and earns his spot again I will be shocked if we don't go back to a 3 at the back.

The thing is, now we have no new players to surprise teams we will have to change formation. Its one of the only ways we can try and outwit teams in the early months. Maybe thats why Poch has been playing so much 433 in the preseason?
