Some of the comparisons to other teams business is cringeworthy. Remember when we signed Bentley, Modric, Giovanni, Corluka, Pavlyuchenko, Gomes in the same summer? Not one of them looked like a bad signing:

  • Current premiership proven young England international
  • Best young playmaker on earth
  • Skilful young forward from the world’s best youth academy
  • Premier league proven international right back
  • One of the top scorers from the recent European championships
  • Brazilian international keeper who we’d seem first hand play a blinder against us a few months prior
Even having sold Berbatov and Keane, with those players you’d have never expected us to be bottom, by a distance, over 1/5 into the season.

Same logic applied for when we sold Bale and bought Eriksen, Lamela, Charlie, Soldado, Paulinho, Chiriches.

Yes, Pochettino must be annoyed, and yes, one very good player to improve us, either out wide or in the middle, would’ve been wonderful, but let’s not kid ourselves that Liverpool’s huge influx guarantees them anything other than a greater risk if the fail. And the thing is, Liverpool have done this every summer since Benitez was sacked pretty much and they’ve still not achieved anything more than us, finishing above us once when we had our worst season since Ramos was sacked.

As for Chelsea, massive lol at their world record goalie who is going to take years to even be a patch on Courtois. He’s talented but he’s also never dealt with premier league set pieces and 6ft 4 beast strikers before, or even heard the word long ball. Their defence remains shocking and I haven’t a clue who they expect to score any goals. Kovacic has no option to buy and the s being baby sat for a year. Jorginho is the only one I’m slightly jealous of.

Then Arsenal... not one of their signings would make our bench. Aubamayang could be scary though.

Lastly, Man Utd... I’ll be shocked if mourinho lasts beyond Christmas after this window.

Man United - Were shit last year and somehow managed to finish second?? Cant see it happening this year. Mourinho in his third year exit strategy will make sure they are mid table. 2nd despite being poor, due to strength of squad, what if they actually play well? Fred could unlock the potential in Pogba. Sanchez messed up their momentum last season but looks to be firing now. Unless Mourinho has a melty (which IMO is very possible) they will be hard to dislodge from T4. Wanted CBs but defensive record was strong.
Chelsea - New manager - New keeper - same old same old. Havent really improved on last season. could go either way for them. Hardest to judge, strikers not really up to scratch and new formation to learn. Not sure if their CBs suit back 4. That said IF they keep Hazard and Willian they have a superb midfield and wide attack. Sarri's Napoli were a joy however, and they will destroy teams on their day.
Arsenal - New Manager looks like he is addressing defensive issues. But will that affect their forward momentum. havent bought anything of note. Old players who may or may not suit the premier league. But have the firepower to have a good season. If they stop conceeding. Signings are bit meh but Aubameyang is looking primed and ready to go. Ozil will be motivated to impress, as will Lacazette. Finally an actual DM in Torreira. Almost certain to improve.
Tottenham - 9 players out at the world cup. No new signings. But no losses of main players. New stadium could go either way. You cant beat familiarity the more a team plays together the better they know eachother. Evolution not revolution. need to stay in touch for the first 10 games. And see where we are at christmas. Agreed. Start is everything (tomorrow and new stadium). Quality is there for another T4 finish barring any manager/squad disharmony or bad luck with injuries.

Alternative view added. Agree with the majority, only Utd I think you are being harsh on. I think Arsenal definitely improve but I think barring a horror start we will be hard to shake from T4.

Two things as examples. Stevie G was being interviewed on SS Wednesday. His new player was asked questions, and SG acted as translator, and jokingly said ‘sometimes you have to lie (to the media)’.

In one of the Mission Impossible franchise films, the world is at risk, and hell breaks loose. Tom Cruise saves the day. In the closing bulletin in the news, they closed with a fabricated cover up. The world knew nothing, except those involved.

My point. Do not believe everything that comes out of our gaffa’s mouth, and that applies to the club-Cover up.

Now unto being positive for the start of the season. COYS

I cant remember watching man united last season and thinking they were anything but average. They won games despite themselves. Which i know sounds ridiculous. But It hasnt been a happy pre season for them. Of course they will be there or there abouts but for me they are the ones that will drop this year. How far I dont know.

Chelsea as you say have all the tools to be a good team. It depends how they take to the manager\change of tactics.

Arsenal worry me. They always do. But again new manager. A total overhaul of the backroom staff. I think they will start well. but the scars of previous years will still run through this squad. And it will take more than a season to fix it.

I havent got my spurs tinted specs on. But i just feel we are in a good place regardless of who we did\didnt sign. continuity is key. The more pre seasons\Seasons we have under the same manager the stronger we will get. Like Arsenal originally under Wenger (before he went mad) and Man united under Fergie. They never went out and bought 5/6 players they added quality where it was needed. And no we havent added. But we havent lost players either. Im confident. I really am.

Now you have nailed it, the key word opportunistic deals to improve our squad. And there was none available for us.

Ok Jack Grealish, is he 35m better off than a youth player, or are we better off giving youth a chance than playing 35m for a squad player. We believe he was worth a certain amount and villa believed otherwise so we move on.

I know football have moved on however we still have the stadium finance to consider and as a result we will have to trade carefully.

Lastly, I believe Poch and levy are signing from the same page and for that alone I am happy.

Yesterday there was itk, Herc I believe that said at one point recently they literally weren’t talking to each other

There are clear cracks and strains, all is not well. Question is will it be forgotten once the season starts, or will it already have changed Poch’s mind about where his future lies

Not knocking, I just look at Utd differently, 95% of your thoughts above echo my own. Hated watching Utd last year, thought they were crap, but they got 81 points. Individual quality bailed them out. Personally I look at that and think that they can't do much worse, hence IMHO the need for Mourinho to meltdown for them to finish 5-6th.

Hopefully the itks weren’t misled when the said Eriksen had signed a new deal, as if not he could be an Alexis Sanchez situation.

Exactly. He may have agreed a new deal in principle, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was signed and sealed.

Everyone seems to think the prospect of Eriksen leaving is beyond the realms of reality, but I can't see why it would be. He's one of the best playmakers in Europe and I can't think of a starting XI he wouldn't get in to. For me, he's our most crucial player, ahead of Hugo, Jan and even Kane. He deserves better than a club whose board is happy to settle for 4th place. If Eriksen goes, it's game over.

I also think Fred was a very clever buy. He will lift some of the defensive duties from Pogba and allow him to be more attacking. The thing with Utd is if they manage to unleash Pogbas potential then they will be a very different prospect. If they can is another mater but buying Fred does go some way to that end.

This is a post typical of the type of smugness, arrogance, and superior attitude displayed by so many of the Levy Fanboys this window. They were so quick to mock or sneer at anyone who dared to question Levy's transfer policy, and even quicker still to deride, demean or belittle anyone who expressed concerns as to whether Poch truly would be backed in this Summer's transfer market.
Well this comment has well and truly come back to bite you on the ass hasn't it?! Perhaps best to save your crass put-downs for the end of the window, when at least you'll know the outcomes.
Let's hope that in future windows, supporters' genuine concerns won't be so readily and churlishly dismissed.
Lol. Shall I round up and then sit on a few of the ridiculous posts currently being made ready for quotation at the end of the season when once again we're in the top 3? Where does this game end?

If you'd actually read my follow-up post instead of just disliking it then you'd have seen exactly who my ire was directed at. I have no problem with people believing it to be a mistake to have signed no-one. I do have a problem with people declaring Levy to be a useless **** who continues to hold the club back, blah blah fucking blah.

He will be 27 next year and entering his prime. If we don’t look like a club that can seriously challenge for the league and CL he will bale. It’s all nice playing in a fancy stadium and lovely training ground but he will want medals and rightly so for a player of his caliber.

Was that a clever play on words or a genuine typo? :playful:

Kinda sums it up we are all accepting even in some cases willing our players on to go fufill their ambitions if the club isn't willing to match.

Squeaky bum time if Modric goes and we haven't heard anything on Eriksen's new contract.

I love the way you spin things. Fair play that you’ve somehow managed to put a negative spin on Liverpool’s window to defend Levy.
