First 30 min I’ve ever seen from James Morrison but looks the real deal. Makes me wonder why we decided against him. Looks perfect Eriksen understudy/successor to me...

Looking at how well Maddison has started annoys me on two fronts.

A) wish we'd have signed him

B) annoys me we messed up on Grealish

Villa fans chuffed Jack is staying (naturally), but I doubt he's gonna be chuffed watching Maddison starting in the PL every week and probably playing for England. Their club is holding his career back.

Fingers crossed Winksy is feeling good after the ankle injury.

I struggle with this for three reasons that have nothing to do with the contents of the article so nothing personal, leGin!
Firstly, it’s The Mail,
Secondly, it’s Peter Crouch- the man that slept with a teenage prostitute when he was already engaged,
Thirdly, The Mail ravaged him for it for being immoral. And now he’s working for them. Hypocrites, the lot of them
On point 1, yes they are garbage but no more than SSN or TALKSPORT who we all (or most of us) waste valuable brain power on.
On point 2, I didn’t know that, only that he played away. That does make it worse.
On point 3, yes but quite frankly 9 out of 10 people in football can probably be accused of hypocrisy in some form.

In a way, I’m quite glad we didn’t sign anyone.

There was space for one, maybe two top quality sit in the who would challenge for a place in the first XI, but Poch’s requirements are (rightly) not just about skill but mentality, and that is very hard to find in any market, let alone one where PL clubs have had to act before other leagues.

In terms of just squad fillers, I would rather we have youth a chance and accept that it may cost us on a occasion, but equally it makes us unique amongst England’s top sides, and if we are training our youth well we will get home grown, world class or thereabouts players with the best mentality coming through.

I just worry how happy Poch is - if he’s happy then I am happy, and either way I am excited if the likes of KWP, CCV, Skipp, Amos, Georgiou et al get a chance to prove themselves.

I’ll be pissed if Sissoko stops them getting match time too often though

I went back to a discussion in early May to find a comment I made. Instead I found this from Val. Said firmly tongue in cheek at the time....

Agreed. Five to one he's the next player to break on through. I tell all the people I know that he lights my fire, but they're waiting for the Sun to tell them he's decent. People are strange that way. Still, hopefully, we'll get him in the End.

My genuine nightmare scenario. It reeks of the tragic irony that comes with supporting this brilliantly mad club in the Levy era

Martial is not a player who is going to change us. Son is better player IMO and I wasn’t enthused by Martial from the get go. FFS why is this **** the second coming? At least Zaha has the X factor. But Martial? Seriously?

After his shenanigans over the birth of his child I am even less interested.

The Guardian article talks about one phone call between Woodward and Levy. So what was he doing swanning around the fucking stadium? Did he get invited over for tea and donuts?

According to the Manchester Evening News we wanted both Martial and Mata as part of the Toby deal.
That isn't what it says:
"It is understood Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy contacted United about the possibility of signing two players, with Anthony Martial known to be one of them and Juan Mata believed to be the other. United attempted to negotiate an Alderweireld compromise through intermediaires."

So we might have contacted them about two players; and one of them might have been Mata. Manu then introduced Alderweireld into a conversation with us, apparently - and for no good reason that I can think of - via third parties. (Possibly.)

So nothing like us wanting two players as part of any Alderweireld deal. In any case, it all smells of bullshit to me.

The simple answer to @doctor stefan Freud is that even very bad people, in very dubious relationships with very bad papers can have valuable things to say.

We don’t have to set aside our distaste for Crouch or the Mail to gain any insight from his piece ....

It’s difficult for us to do this because we tend to seee people as wholly good or wholly bad. Hitler, for example, was very kind to dogs. We can acknowledge that whilst also seeing that he is responsible for one of the most vile periods of human history.

Keep seeing it rumoured but we cannot sell Toby or Rose now, that would be utter madness. We can't replace them so they need to buckle down and be like new signings for us after missing the best part of last season.

I agree and disagree. Toby I really hope we keep and he signs, but Rose, even if things are okay between him and Pochettino, doesn’t seem the most stable character and I’m not sure a) what effect that will have on the pitch but b) how it could affect the dressing room. If we keep Rose then great, two fantastic left backs, but if Pochettino would rather use Georgiou, KWP, and of course Vertonghen until January when we’d go after someone then I’d understand why.

I get your point but KWP is a left back and has struggled on the right, Georgiou is not relly good enough especially on the defensive side to be a rotation player in that position, we all know Poch wants to rotate a lot there.

Vertonghen can certainly play in that position but I wouldnt want our best CB to play out of position even if it means we can play both Toby and Sanchez especialy with Foyth and CCV injured.

I guess Davies can play many games, he seems to be a player that has the stamina.

I am really looking forward to the new season.

Very interested to see how an unchanged team performs.

Assuming we keep Dembele and Alderweireld we have good opinions in every position and a few youngsters hoping for their chance.

If we improve this will be great for the league. I miss the days of keeping players for long periods.

It really helped you connect with the players.

It saddens me that fans think the only way to improve is by buying.
