The problem isn't the quality of our team, it is the lack of depth. a few injuries and we a

This squad was not good enough to win the league and our rivals have gotten stronger. We managed a decent season last year but if the team was not good enough to win the league and the other top 5 teams have strengthened, it starts to look like we will struggle to make the top 4 and get CL football next season. When all of our first team are fit and well we are a top 4 team but as soon as injuries creep in or players can't play for whatever reason we are relying on players like Sissoko which speaks volumes.

I thought the ambition was to win the Premier League though? Starting to look like Spurs will be happy to fight for 4th place.

Unfortunately the Premier League has become like Germany ,Spain , France and Italy very few teams have any chance of winning and the wealthy teams are just snapping up the best players. With the largest privately funded project in Europe ongoing Spurs just cannot compete with the likes of Man City until all debts are cleared. Even Arsenal a much wealthier club than Spurs are struggling to compete judging by some of their signings this summer.
Not so sure Man U and Arsenal have strengthened , Fred couldn't get in the Brazil team ahead of Paulinho a player lambasted by many Spurs fans as the worst Brazilian player ever seen who now has a La Liga winners medal. Arsenal have signed Sokratis, just watch his defending against Harry & Son for Dortmund when we played them at Wembley in CL.

We are playing for 2nd 3rd or 4th to compete with Man City is impossible.

Spurs are not going to make any massive signings until the stadium is paid for, just read Daniel from last year https://www.givemesport.com/1108929...y-spurs-arent-making-any-signings-this-summer

Considering some people were expecting us to lose Dembele, Alderweireld and Rose, without any of the realistic rumours being upgrades on these positions, I'm fairly happy with our lack of activity. All are capapble of being the best in their position in the league when settled and in form. I'd rather see good man-management than an overhaul when there is unrest.

I've been out of the loop for a few days due to family obligations. Has there been any word on loans in either direction?

What would be really nice is if we went out and maybe bought one or two players now to come ether Jan or next summer. Obviously that will never happen because it requires foresight which we don't have, and committing to a player. But would be lovely if we had firm targets for once. That don't play in the PL.

How does Shearer justify his fee on MOD , comes out with a rubbish statement that someone like Mahrez would improve Spurs, might improve Spurs but now way are Spurs going to pay £60 million for any player (at the moment) . Just the usual criticism of not signing anyone absolutely no mention of the success in new contracts for several players including the PL leading striker over the last few seasons or the financial burden of the new stadium which will improve our financial position eventually.

Everton have been chucking money at new players last season £182 million , this season £92 million, lets see if money buys them champions league because like it or not that is what clubs want . The FA cup and League cup might put trophies in your cabinet but financially they are no comparison for CL or PL position. Poch knows that and his aim this season will be to do well in CL & PL doubt we can win either but ultimately to finish 2nd 3rd or 4th

I did not see the comments on tele yet in isolation it's true!
Also picking Everton as an example is a bit shit! Man City stormed the league last year, and even they felt the need to strengthen.
Don't get lost on the financials, and ask yourself the question again-would Mahrez have improved the team/squad had we signed him ?

We pretty much have the same record transfer fee as Bayern Munich, yet they always compete domestically & in Europe. The point of the post is football has got caught up in this web of thinking that money is the be all and end all for success when it isn't, it merely helps achieve it.

If your scouting team is clever & your coaching team highly skilled, you can still compete whilst financially punching well above your weight. We need to be ambitious & brave in times where we can't flash the cash. There are ways around the money issues if we put our minds to it and make smart footballing decisions like we have with players such as Dele, Dier, Trippier & Son. I'm sure there are some exceptional talents out there, the key is to get them before the big clubs do. If Genks scouts can identify players like Bailey & Milinkovic-Savic before they hit the big time, then why can't ours?

I think you are ok to close this now as people will be ranting on the new stadium thread instead. As long as they have something to moan about they will be happy!

Perhaps there's not much interest in it, but is it worth having a thread for outgoings until the rest of Europe closes the window? Not sure if many ITKs would get involved - just a thought.

Exactly this. There are still 16 days for us to sell some players that need to go... or for our season to be completely fucked over...

as you can see with the Scum it's not about stadium debt, more about the M.O. of the owner.

Different coaches will always have different views on players.

Some of the comparisons to other teams business is cringeworthy. Remember when we signed Bentley, Modric, Giovanni, Corluka, Pavlyuchenko, Gomes in the same summer? Not one of them looked like a bad signing:

  • Current premiership proven young England international
  • Best young playmaker on earth
  • Skilful young forward from the world’s best youth academy
  • Premier league proven international right back
  • One of the top scorers from the recent European championships
  • Brazilian international keeper who we’d seem first hand play a blinder against us a few months prior
Even having sold Berbatov and Keane, with those players you’d have never expected us to be bottom, by a distance, over 1/5 into the season.

Same logic applied for when we sold Bale and bought Eriksen, Lamela, Charlie, Soldado, Paulinho, Chiriches.

Yes, Pochettino must be annoyed, and yes, one very good player to improve us, either out wide or in the middle, would’ve been wonderful, but let’s not kid ourselves that Liverpool’s huge influx guarantees them anything other than a greater risk if the fail. And the thing is, Liverpool have done this every summer since Benitez was sacked pretty much and they’ve still not achieved anything more than us, finishing above us once when we had our worst season since Ramos was sacked.

As for Chelsea, massive lol at their world record goalie who is going to take years to even be a patch on Courtois. He’s talented but he’s also never dealt with premier league set pieces and 6ft 4 beast strikers before, or even heard the word long ball. Their defence remains shocking and I haven’t a clue who they expect to score any goals. Kovacic has no option to buy and the s being baby sat for a year. Jorginho is the only one I’m slightly jealous of.

Then Arsenal... not one of their signings would make our bench. Aubamayang could be scary though.

Lastly, Man Utd... I’ll be shocked if mourinho lasts beyond Christmas after this window.

The last bit is what should worry you.

I agree and disagree. Toby I really hope we keep and he signs, but Rose, even if things are okay between him and Pochettino, doesn’t seem the most stable character and I’m not sure a) what effect that will have on the pitch but b) how it could affect the dressing room. If we keep Rose then great, two fantastic left backs, but if Pochettino would rather use Georgiou, KWP, and of course Vertonghen until January when we’d go after someone then I’d understand why.

But you'll struggle to buy top players that are integral to their teams plans mid season. Added to that there tends to be a premium for them for the same reason and it's clear as day Levy won't over stretch.
