I thought that Murray had an excellent comeback - doubt he will ever be world number 1 again, but it sure looks as though he could be very competitive.

So did I, was better than I expected and it was great to see him back playing well. I'm actually glad the media's reaction has been fairly positive too despite losing.

In truth that's a match that Murray could potentially lose even at his best so nothing to e ashamed of.

Be interesting to see if he's able to regain the British No.1 spot again, given the huge strides that Edmund has made recently.

Good win for Edmund against Murray today. I really hope Murray feels fit enough for Wimbledon, you would have thought that he'd almost relish the opportunity as it will be the first time in years that he can play with a lot of weight off his shoulders. There should be no great expectations for him this year.

Dimitrov out, wow. Was a nightmare 1st round for both of them really but it would be great to see Wawrinka get back to good form.

Massive surprise after Murray had beaten Stan so comfortably last week. Haven’t seen any of the game yet but wasn’t expecting that result.

That alongside Monfils playing/beating Gasquet have to be two of the biggest games seen in a first round for a long time (would normally expect them to be last 16 ties)

Also great to see the young Brit Swan (19) beat the world #40 in the Womens draw

Yeah indeed, disappointing for Dimitrov, I don't think he'll ever reach the heights people once thought to be honest.

A good first day though I agree, you'd certainly feel you'd gotten your money's worth on the first day seeing either of those. I saw that young brit too, the other woman was unlucky to lose in 3 sets also!

I'm not a big follwer of Tennis so I'm no expert but I'm just watching Edmund v Djokovic and it occurred to me that a couple of years ago Djokovic was absolutely unplayable, best player in the world by a country mile and I wonder how he has lost form so badly.
The answer I guess is that you can't maintain that level for a long time at the top of the game which led me to another realisation, Federer has been there for over a decade, how does he do it? Is he an automaton or is he just possibly the best player ever, an absolute phenomenon?

That last bit of your post explains Federer.

Main difference is Djokovic’s game is based on athleticism and out lasting the opponent by chasing every ball. Whereas Federer is so compact in his movement floating around the court with minimal effort that he’s able to be more effective while spending less energy (y) (plus he’s an absolute phenomenon ? )

Djokovic had a long standing injury to his elbow which eventually required surgery. Plus his head went. There were unspecified problems off the court, he changed his coaching team, including bringing in someone who was more of a guru than a tennis coach. He's now sorted the elbow, mostly, gone back to his old coach and appears to be coming back to something like his old self. If he really truly believes he can get back to being the best player on the planet, he just might do so.

Federer is the most talented player I've ever seen. He plays so effortlessly, so beautifully, that there's much less stress on his body, though even he misses the clay court season now; but then he is nearly 37. I guess he's stayed mentally strong for so long because he pretty much knows he's the best!

Cheers guys, as I say I have a passing interest and that's the impression I've got of Federer, perhaps I should have taken more notice.
Be interesting to see if Djokovic can get back to his best though.

I'm liking Dominika Cibulkova...tough lady, and she seems to be dismantling people at the moment.

Would be great to see Nadal win the mens' Wimbledon this year.

Wow, definitely didn't see that result!

Fair play to Anderson, was hitting some pretty massive groundstrokes.

Anderson now serving for the match. Just broke with Federer making a few bad unforced errors

Anderson looked the stronger at the end, and served out well, especially after losing the first point.

Can he go further, and win it? Or will he react to that win and play like me* in the semi?

* maybe not that badly!

Bugger - gave up on the Fed match but I've now seen the result. That's incredible.

Yeah he did, really kept his composure as I think he's known to get a bit tight in certain situations too.

Who does he play next? Djokovic? I think he's gotten past the player who I would most expected him to lose to.
