I was at the game, and it was definitely banter. They gave us A LOT of stick in the first half, all of which was deserved. Likewise, when they threw away a 0-2 lead, do you really expect any of them were surprised that the opposition fans (i.e. us) let them know about it? Ridiculous that anybody should take offence to that, let alone a home fan...

Lets get this straight, it was football banter, they as someone has already stated were singing "two nil and we fucked it up" at the end and got an ovation from Park lane for singing it, fair play to them.

They also sang to us "your shit and you know you are", "you only sing when your winning", in fact they gave us more stick than alot of prem sides and all done in perfect English, again fair play to them.

I do wish the sensitive types sitting at home on the sofa would realise it's a major part of what football is all about, as long as you don't step over the line, both Spurs and Aalborg supporters took it for what it was, banter.

How patronising. We are all adults (I assume) and should be able to take all chants with a pinch of salt. When fans were singing the song about Campbell hanging from a tree a couple of seasons ago, we didnt actually wish campbell to be found hanging from a tree now did we.

Banter with opposing fans is one of the most enjoyable things about going to the lane. I really despair at some people on this site and their holier than thou attitude.

How amusing that I pretty much went back on what I said in the post above and some twat still doesnt notice

Ha... again, I'm with Supersonic on this one. If it was back and forth and their supporters were having fun with it, fair play. It's nothing to do with sensitivity... I guess it's more to do with class vs. pettiness. It's petty to talk s**t to a team you should have beaten because they lost a lead. But like I said, if it wasn't like that - if it was all in good fun and they were playing along - then that's clearly not about class/pettiness.

They also sang to us "your shit and you know you are"

Waiting for someone to point that out, they sang this just after they went 2-0 up, I was over in block 33 and could hear it loud and clear. So if they can dish it out to us then I am sure they can take a bit of flak as well  The thread starter needs to chill a bit, like it has been pointed out by many a poster before me, its called football banter.

Excuse me? Please do explain. How am I supposed to notice that you went back on your original post when I am in the process of typing a response to your ridiculous initial statement?

I think what you meant is how amusing that you have started a thread and then as soon as you realised not everybody on here was going to agree with you, you backtracked on your statement.

I'm the same as Supersonic in that I watched it on tv, and when i heard the fans chanting that it didnt really come across as banter.

Obviously those at the game heard the rest of the exchanges between the fans and it would seem that it was all in jest, but at the time I did find it embarassing as it didnt come across as banter on tv. Also made me cringe thinking we have the cheek to sing that given our track record, but anyways it would all appear to be good fun in the end and nothin wrong with that.

Perhaps you didn't notice the timing of the posts, but i'd say that his response was being formulated as you were submitting your post.

Regardless. There's no need to resort to name calling, so please don't.

Otherwise we'll have to set Vics on you.

I don't like that chant in general regardless of the opposition. Ignoring the snidiness of it, it gives credit to the other team. Not 2-0 but we dug deep and turned it around but we're only winning because your so bad. Especially true against our Danish visitors

We have to be equal opportunity offenders. Either we banter with every club, or we dont banter with any clubs at all. The moment we start picking and choosing who we chant at, that is when we stop it.

Meh maybe I was harsh. I was reading it and getting slightly fed up that half the responses were just over reactive abuse at me for saying something that others are saying was actually a fair point.

And jimtheyid about me 'backtracking' I am at least not so up myself that Im going to stubbornly stick to my view even when others have made me think twice about it. The point of the forum is discussion, whats the point of discussion if you cant change your mind

You need to look at this in context. So what actually happened on Thursday (I was in the South Stand, block 33):-

1 - They went into an early lead and their supporters started taking the piss out of us. Which isn't what you want to hear, but justified.

2 - They went 2-0 up and started singing "You're shit and you know you are."

3 - We brought it back to 2-2, and started to sing "Two nil and you fucked it up."

4 - After the game their fans gave their players a tremendous reception, and in turn their fans got a huge round of applause from spurs fans making our way out of the ground. Then all their fans joined in with singing "Two nil and WE fucked it up", which gave them an even bigger round of applause from us.

So if you look at this step-by-step it was light-hearted banter between 2 sets of fans. You don't get a sense of the to-ing and fro-ing between fans when watching it on the telly, and it is this to-ing and fro-ing that differentiated it between being banter (which it was) and spurs fans being a bunch of w***ers (which it wasn't).

Why does it feel we play better when 2-0 down? Yet, when 1-0 up, it's like you can almost feel a defeat coming? I think season 07-08 should be forgotten like John Pratt

I totally agree with this. I was at the game to, east stand block 28. The thing that gets me is people who agree with the thread starter, the majority of them never went to the game. Now I watched the replay of the game on telly when i got home and i heard plain as day the aalborg chants. (there english was very good) Maybe people have got confused and thought it was the spurs fans chanting your shit and you know you are at our own team. It was banter at the end of the day and taken in the spirit it was meant. It's all part and parcel of the game, wether were playing arsenal or whoever, I dont feel you can be disgusted with this chant just because it was aalborg, there in the uefa cup on merit and there are not many easy games in europe as proved on thursday.

There is a thread on the front page at the moment about how booing our own players at half time against aalborg was wrong and against the spirit of the game.

The booing at half time was NOTHING in comparison to this. I was actually ashamed to be hearing it, it was pathetic.

Aalborg are a small club, and ofr their players that game was probably the biggest of their lives. THey came to White Hart Lane, played some good football, and to their credit got a 2-0 lead against all odds.

Then us, with our expensive international stars bring it back to 2-2, and some wankers in the crowd start chanting 2-0 and you fucked it up.

I just want general opinions people because Im surprised theres no thread already. When we are rubbing it in the faces of Alborg fans that they cant beat us at while hart lane it really does show how much of a 'big club' we are. Personally I thought it was pathetic and ten times more embarrassing than any booing that occurred.

the ammount of times i have heard this against us over the years, im happy we had the chance to sing it for once.

They were giving us enough banter before we came back anyway and it was all done in a great spirit by both sets of supporters. i was much impressed at them chanting at us in english.
so in short, grow a pair and get over yourself. If i was an aalborg fan, i would be more upset at your very patronising comments about my club being small, rather than the banter between supporters

Im not sure.

To me it has always been a chant that you sing at fans you dont like. Its never seemed like a banter chant.

I dunno. Maybe Im not bone headed enough for football mentality.

explain what the difference between a "banter-chant" and a "non-banter-chant" is please cos i'm frigged if i know

Just try to get to the bottom of the first page PYiddy. then you wont have to tell me to get over myself etc.

And non banter chants are like the sol campbell ones. Its pretty much what it says in the name

when i heard it being sung i was a bit embarassed bcos i thought to myself, will they actually know what we were singing?
as well,i associate it with Arsenal singing it to us when we threw away a 2-0 lead in the carling cup so i would prefer to sing it at them, or any of the top 4.well any premier league club really bcos at least they will def understand it
