Decent enough game without too many clear cut chances. Midfield for both teams seems non existent so far as it's just coming straight through both so far.

Still makes me a bit sick that Liverpool have a player on the level of VVD. He's so much better than any CB right now.

Netherlands are a bit Ajax like. Great to watch when against weaker opponents yet clearly flawed and overrated in some areas. Notice how the ATG midfield that somehow outplayed Rice, Delph and Barkley at time some Thursday, aren’t really getting a sniff tonight against a midfield that actually contains some genuine quality!

He’s certainly on form this season. Will it last? Perhaps. It’s rare someone hits his relatively late age and suddenly becomes elite level and stays there. Perhaps I’m clutching but I don’t think he’ll be as good next term. Everything has gone his way this season, I want to see him/his team deal with a bit of adversity.
I’ve seen him raped too many times before he joined Liverpool to think of him as some kind of Maldini type...

His best asset is keeping things really simple. If you watch him you’ll notice how often he simply puts it out or clears it as far from the danger zone as possible. John Stones take note you mong!

I can't remember the last time I've seen a CB who looks so much better than any other defender that you're probably right about his form. He'll probably regress a bit next season, but even so he's gonna be one of the best in the world for some time if he stays healthy.

I think every defensive player from championship up could learn from that.
So many goals conceded these days from the defence having possesion and fannying around until they lose it its embarrassing. Sure the penny will drop eventually.
This is how Chelsea last won the league and Man U. They were the only defences that cleared their lines when under pressure.

If he keeps this form up itll be very very impressive.
It’s shame you don’t see many really physical forwards around thesedays. I remember a slimmer, more mobile Kane absolutely destroyed him a couple of times when he was at Southampton.

Perhaps I just cannot acccept centre halves with silly little fluffs of beard and ponytails!

I'm of the thinking that Nélson Semedo has had a pretty good game for Portugal at RB.

Supposedly linked, I've read that he is great going forward, but found wanting somewhat in the defensive side of things.

He's shown good pace and got forward well, but equally he hasn't shirked his defensive responsibilities, and I feel, has been equally as good in this area.

Jordan Pickford is a legend for yesterday. I just had this feeling we'd lose on penalties after dominating, but the players (literally) stepped up and all six scored. Pickford's was the best of the bunch and hammered it home. Also enjoyed the time wasting he did by taking his gloves off!

It's annoying that the relegated teams from last time got a reprieve.

Weren’t there only 3 teams in our group last time?

This is a much better set up than the actual euros now. Could just sack that off for this?
