Yeah great from Holloway. He started slow and weathered the storm early on. Aldo looked good but started to get a little tired again late in round 2 and then 3. He seems to be going the way of his teammate Barao now that he has been beaten. He's still a dangerous fighter but seems a little unsure since the KO by McGregor. I think fighters are seeing that now and seem a bit more confident fighting him. Fair play to Holloway he earned it and I always enjoy watching him fight.

Exactly as I saw it. Holloway represents a kind of 'New Order' of younger fighters coming through and challenging the slightly older, more established fighters. Right now the UFC is an absolute hotbed of young talent and I love watching it. Their future is very bright.

Does anyone not think that McGregor vs Mayweather isn't a total mismatch? Conor was outboxed by Nate Diaz and now he's up against one of the all time greats. Money isn't the biggest puncher and hasn't stopped anyone since 2011 but he was up against boxers who knew how to defend themselves and I can't see McGregor lasting the distance especially as boxing referees are a lot keener to stop a fight on cuts than their MMA counterparts.

It's beyond a mismatch. I cannot see anyway in which McGregor can win. I'd genuinely call it a victory for him if he even lands a meaningful punch.

I'm done questioning Conor TBH, is it a mismatch? Yep, should i expect anything other than a Mayweather win? Nope but i'm not so sure it's c ompletely straight forward for Floyd.
Conor thought he could knock out Nate so spent most of that first fight headhunting and trying to separate his head from his shoulders, 2nd fight he picked his shots and knocked Nate down several times.

If Conor is dumb and tries to outbox Floyd then it'll be embarrassing.

Turn it into a "fight" rather than a boxing "match" i think it'll take Mayweather longer than usual to figure him out.

I was looking at odds yesterday, some interesting options there.

Everyone and his brother is calling Mayweateher V McGregor an embarrassing mis-match waiting to happen and they're probably right.

I say probably because in Sport nothing is guaranteed, and if the quoted odds on a draw are really 33/1, I may well be having some of that. McGregor is an extraordinary athlete and Mayweather has been in retirement for two years, and is currently 40 years old.

I know it's virtually impossible for Conor to achieve any kind of result, but as I say...sport is weird.

Being an extraordinary athlete ( I'm not sure he actually is. He's a very talented martial artist, but extraordinary athlete might be pushing it a bit...he was gassed in both fights against Diaz ) means nothing when it comes to boxing ability though. There's been plenty of great boxers who weren't necessarily great athletes.

I've said it a fair few times but Bradley Skeete, the British welter champ, would beat McGregor like a ginger step child. Mayweather will not break sweat. McGregor wont be able to land anything.

Much more looking forward to the return of Jones and Jones/Cormier 2. Will be very interesting to see if Jones has kept his level up since his time off and whether Cormier has improved or can game plan effectively. Cruz/Dillashaw showed what a true champion is able to do if they put their mind to it. Cruz returning without a warm up fight and winning was incredible, let see if Jones can follow suit to a degree.

I couldn't stand Jones during his climb to the top with his faux religious zen like whiter than white fake personality. He's much more palatable now that he has at least partially embraced his true personality.

If there's any justice at all, Jones will punish Cormier. I say this not because I dislike DC, not at all, in fact I think he comes across as a really intelligent and very decent and humble guy, but his fighting ethic sucks. For me, anyone who just wants to fall on top of his opponent and use his bulk to stop him getting up and defending himself, or push his opponent to the fence and hold him there until the ref separates them, doesn't deserve to be any kind of champion.

Jones is a massive and vicious beast, and there is not an ounce of love or respect between them both.

Jones needs to win because he has a much stronger all round game. His stand up game is much broader and varied and that's what I like to see inside the octagon. Fighters who can excel at any MMA discipline, and not simply rely on their weight.

I can't stand Jones but there's no denying his talent. I'd love to see Cormier win but DC really isn't the sort of fighter Jones would struggle against. Gustafsson would compete physically and Manuwa would have a puncher's chance but Jones is just a really bad match up for DC and unless Jones has completely let himself go I just can't see how DC wins.

What a fucking fight last night on the tuf finale - Justin Gaethje v Michael Johnson. Well worth a watch for anyone who's not seen it, one of my favourite fights for quite a while

I really want DC to win also. Jones looked poor in his last fight though and has had some very long lay offs. DC could pull it off.

I still think Gustafson beat jones when they fought 3 round to 2

Connor wants to fight Khabib, I can see why. His thinking is that is stand up is not so good and he can knock him out before he gets taken down. While Ferguson would be a tougher opponent because his all round game is better.

Hopefully he will make the Khabib V Ferguson fight first but I wouldn't mine seeing either of them take on Justin.

Great fight. Please can we get 2 more rounds of that? Tough to decide the winner.

Lawler got the win but that really could have gone either way. Great fight

Definitely worth the $60. Only the Woodley fight was boring(color me shocked:rolleyes:). Other than that, 4 fights that bought good entertainment. Had everything, to be honest. UFC finally got a great PPV this year.

There should be a discussion of taking the welterweight belt off PPV events as long as Woodley holds it. This is now 2 straight bore fests where he does absolutely nothing and wins on takedown defense. He wont be bringing in any buys. Stick his next defense on a Fight Night on Fox.

I'm no MMA expert and have not watched a great deal of the sport, but from the little I have seen, Jones looks like he's comfortably the best I've ever seen. Superb fighter

Awesome night! Jones was fantastic, Cormier fought ok but even though he was pressuring you always felt Jones was always in control. The finish was beautiful too.
Fail play to Jones' words to Cormier. Dana was mad at him for standing for the decision.

And god, Woodley is crazy boring. Sometimes if he doesn't have the big knockout there's very little in between.

Jones and Lesnar :D

I've considered Jon Jones to be the greatest ever mma fighter for many years

His out of the Octagon antics have pretty much tarnished his reputation but he doesn't need to be a fan favourite or even a likeable guy to be a great fighter

There were questions as to whether he could be the same guy post USADA but he answered those emphatically last night, he's simply a higher calibre fighter to DC and everyone he's fought in the UFC to date (despite a tough fight against Gustafsson )

Will be interesting to see what he does next, is it time to step up to heavyweight? I don't see anyone else in the LHW division that even represents a competitive fight for him

It was a pretty good card. No real surprises though. Maybe a surprise that Manuwa got finished so early. (I did see the other guys last fight and know it was a quick finish as well, just thought Jimi would be able to do better).

Yea Manuwa ruined my accumulator

Aside from him all other fights on the main card went the way I expected

Still was a great event
