Looks like we can chalk Mario Suarez off the list, an update on his future in the players thread.
It does make you wonder, if not McCarthy, then who?

Don't really have much confidence about us signing a good DM. I was hoping for Suarez personally because I got the impression it would have been an easy deal to do.

I hope the club surprise me, but I have to say that I'm a little underwhelmed with most of these apparent targets.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see them as good enough to take us to the next level.

Next level is where though? Realistically anything about 4th will be an immense feat and only achievable for a club of our means with a super star player in there (like Bale did for us, or Suarez did for Liverpool).

So therefore we aim for 4th - we were 6 points (and some goal difference) short this season. With a much more robust defence (already sorted) then we could easily make up 4-6 points. With another attacking player and a better DM/CM over what we had kast season (working on it) we could certainly have made up a further 2-4 points.

Will this be enough for the coming season? Who knows, but certainly we're not stepping up to being PL contenders without spending £50m on a single player, and that will never happen.

Sure we've got the kids.

I want Kramer, personally. By far my first choice. Much rather him over McCarthy, tbh. Hoping he's one of the cabbages

there is no next level- with ENIC. Bera on the field is a good choice, off it could be hit or miss. Talk of Mitchell's evaluation also focusing on the latter surely means we will look elsewhere though. Didn't Trix confirm he had too many issues?

So many posters think as long as we fix the holes by the end of August that will be fine. I strongly disagree, and every manager fired by ENIC is on record as disagreeing too. They would say that, yep, but it doesn't devalue the point. August points are vital, in determining confidence, momentum, and I think I read it's the common month for injuries especially muscle strains.

So rumours this morning that Ade, Dembele and Stambouli will be heading out for about £14m, and Berahino and Suarez will be coming in for about £23m.

That's not too shabby business, as we've still got Soldado, Chirches and Lennon left to fund a second forward and balance the books.

Dembele alone will be moving out for atleast £12m !!

I think we def need two players but we are starting the season with a stronger team than last year, and a settled team for once. Yes we need a striker it's not like when we sold DM and Keane or modric and parker was injured we will start the season stronger a lot more settled than the years before.

Talking about DM's, there has been loads of noise from itks etc about how much we rate Alli and Pritchard but I haven't seen much (or anything) about Veljkovic. Is he not rated?

If Dembele goes too we will be in a pickle.

Alli, Bentaleb and Mason left as CM's and if we miss out on McCarthy which personally i'm not overly confident on then we could be in trouble.

I'm normally with you on this, however i'm seeing things a little different this season. We are away to Utd first game of the season which frankly if we lose i won't be worried about, it's a tough fixture and not one we should be winning by right. However the next 3 games should all be winnable and based on that if we come out the other side with 6 points from our first 4 games with our current squad then i'd say we're on target. Our current squad is also more than capable of achieving this.

Then there's a two week break before we get back into the PL games with our next tough game not being until the end of September when we play City.

My point is that i'd rather we get the right players in (and out) this summer, over getting players in before August.

You don't think that those in charge of player transfers have thought of that?

Yup! We've been there before though, bloated squad with poor trading signings who get moved on without properly addressing gaps in the playing staff with precision. Then lessons learned etc.

His agent was a huge barrier but not the only concerns.

I have no idea if we have spoken to him but it would be more likely now his agent has been sacked

No way would we have touched him at the time JJ made that post as he was still with Ward at that point.
Apologies mate i didn't mean to misquote you(y)
