Where did the Mata ITK come from?

I would literally cringe with embarrassment if it transpires that we go to Chelsea cap in hand after they have just stolen our transfer target and laughed in our face about it. Surely we have too much self respect to even contemplate this.

Self respect? If we got Mata off Chelsea for any price we would be fucking them up the arse and humiliating them. As a player he is streets ahead of Willian and would immediately become our best player (assuming Bale departs of course).

Nedelev was having a medical next week I thought.

As for Halilovic, that just seems to be in stasis in that everything is agreed yet nothing is happening but with Willian all but gone, I think it makes the deal that bit more appealing to conclude.

Halilovic will still be the deal of the summer for me (as in we will look back on it and be some grateful we went for it). Sounds crazy with all the deals we've done and might but really feel he could be crazily good. Maybe I'll be totally wrong but who knows.

Where was the reports about Nedelev's medical? Just seems these reports are all unsubstantiated

Ozil. One of best in world. Mata also great but not quite as good. Do feel mata is slightly different player as plays wide for Chelsea and Spain whereas Ozil is through the middle and all about class creativity and technique

If Mata was available all the top clubs in the world would be after him. Even if we were in a parallel universe where he wanted to play for us Chelsea wouldn't sell to us anyway. Pointless waste of our time.

Totally underwhelmed by Hulk too. Just another brute. Still, the "beast" lovers on here would have a collective orgasm.

Mata is one of the few intelligent footballers off the field, he's already got one if not two degrees and is studying for another in his spare time. Someone like him may not be so easily guided by agents or chasing the money. Just a thought. If he played for someone else of Chelsea's stature and genuinely has fallen out of contention I think he'd consider us. However, Chelsea would rather let him rot than strengthen us. Shame.

The thing is, Chelsea seem quite prepared to let him go to another English team - Mourinho's response to whether Mata might be going to Man United was "well, they haven't asked". It was suggested earlier that we were the collateral, rather than the target, in the whole Willian affair. I wonder if maybe we could use the fact that actually the higher-ups at Bridge of horrors still retain a certain sympathy for AVB to try for a deal?

Massive long shot but worth a go for such a player...

ETA: I was writing this post as you posted yours A & C - please put down that alarming looking implement!

Look at AVB as Fergie in the early 90's ;)

For the first time in how long we do have a manger who is trying to build a very strong SQUAD rather than a just a strong first 11, i think selling bale will be even more beneficial for the long term should we replace him with 2 top class attacking talents (and all the other strengthening we could do with the extra cash.... who needs oil money when you've got bale money???)
The point that I was making is that the game is different now than it was in Fergie's first five years. Fuck, it's barely even the same game. The sheer vastness of the money involved has changed everything completely. AVB is clearly a gifted, committed manager, and the degree to which he's been backed is enormous. For the first time in my personal history as a Spurs fan, and looking at our history, the first time since about 1960, we have a truly legitimate setup. For me, the biggest step this window hasn't been the players we've brought in, or the money we may get for Bale, it's the fact that our manager said he wanted a technical director, and so we brought one in.

The fact that the club is willing to support AVB enough to revamp their whole organizational structure shows both a step towards the future of the game as well as a willingness to try a clearly superior system again, despite the fact that it failed previously with inferior personnel.

So yes, we do have a manager who's looking to build a strong squad. But what happens if he gets fed up with that mongoloid section of our fans who boos the team if they haven't scored by half-time? What happens if a power-- not a nouveau-riche club like PSG, but a serious power like Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich, (I know Pep is there now) or United if Moyes doesn't keep their level of success up, comes in for him and we haven't won anything yet?

It's very, very hard to separate the head and the heart when it comes to football. My heart says the Bale deal can fall through, AVB, will take us to heights we couldn't have dreamed of a decade ago, and we'll be at the top of the English game. My head says to wait and see.

We're not signing Mata or Ozil. We've more chance of signing Bert and Ernie.

That's a bit racist. Not all our fans from Mongolia boo the team. Some are quite supportive.

Right, I consider myself inebriated enough to come out of my shell now. Serious question I've been meaning to ask. Seeing as 99% of ITK pertains to specific players, why is there a dedicated ITK discussion thread when it all really belongs in the specific player's one? Is it purely a Darwinian "survival of the least stupid" system that helps you eradicate users who you deem not worthy of the site or are you gluttons for punishment?
