I've always been, and still am, in the Pro-Levy group. Having said that, if the ITK regarding his position as "Unofficial Director of Football" is true, I think he could do with giving Villas-Boas some freedom in chosing players he thinks will improve the team. I doubt AVB would ask for 35 million to buy Carroll, put it that way.

Couldn't agree more, but for all we know he is giving him a lot of freedom to choose? It's all speculation isn't it. I think they are working together.

Do we really think that Levy and AVB go round telling people there main targets, in fact I would go as far as to say we probably put a few plants out there from time to time to get other clubs off the scent of what we are actually after.

Well anyway, if I had to pick 3 from all the mentioned targets, I'd go for Leandro Damiao, Moutinho and Afellay.

im was really happy about the appointment of Villas Boas and feel sorry for him if he's getting shafted by Levy.

Ive tried to remain optimistic despite our lack of action this window but im just worried we will end up with an unbalanced squad with players that dont fit AVB's system / philosophy

I can easily see this causing us to go on a run of bad results, Villas Boas walking or getting the chop and Tim Sherwood getting the job. Just like Santini and Jol

Ive always supported you Levy, You've got five days...

Yeah I would hope so. I think that since AVB was brought in early I imagine some of the key points of his first talks with Levy was regarding transfer policies and how they would move the club forward. I'm sure they have a plan they are following, but for those of us on the outside anxiously awaiting good news the lack of movement seems like a bad thing.

I will reserve judgement until the transfer deadline, there is no point in drawing conclusions yet.

Worried by the lack if goalkeeper itk, friedel has looked 41 so far this season. Whether its age catching up with him, or the high line but he looks a liability. Rather give gomes another go if we aren't going to pay what's needed for lloris (which is crazy, keepers that good don't become available too often)

I know the way he saved us on Saturday was terrible!

I am completely with the idea that Levy needs to back his manager in the market but it can only be up to a point can't it? Is it really justifiable to spend £30m on Moutinho if Porto will accept no less? I think the guy's top player but to spunk that amount on him would be wasteful imo. At 26 this is not a player likely to hold his value beyond a couple of seasons either. To think, you could probably get both Dembele and Isco for a combined cost of less than that amount, and both would have a greater resell value for the future. That's not to say that AVB should be forced into having those players if he doesn't want them, but just who is no2 and 3 on his list? I haven't heard it suggested that he's interested in anyone other than Moutinho for CM so far. I like that he has the courage to follow through on his convictions but we as a club need to be practical.

Elsewhere it looks like AVB is being backed on the winger he wants (Willian) so Levy can't be ignoring him completely. God knows what's happening on the striker front but it seems he was happy enough with Damiao, for whom we tried and it just didn't work out. Onto plan b now.

There seems to be a major problem with expecatation.

Fact is that no major clunb gas signed many players - a handful of players is the max because the good players are not easy to get hold of.

Bringing in AVB some fans thought we could sell a lot of our existing squad (but other clubs do not have the money to buy) and Spurs would bring in lots of players to convert from 4231 to 433.

That was never going to happen.

The squad may improve a bit but wholesale change was never on the cards - the lack of bank lenduing means clubs cannot afford to buy our players and we cannot finance lots of new players. That is the facts of life.

Bringing in Vertonghen (more than making up foir an injury prone Ledley), Siggurdsson and Adebayor - plus another striker and creative midfielder (plus bringing back Naughton, Caulker, Townsend, Carroll and Smith from loan) would be a pretty decent transfer window, strengthening the squad a lot. A GK or other would be nice - but never likely to bring in more than 4 or 5 good new players,

This is the problem, we had a few people spouting about investment, we had others talking about Joe Lewis changing the habit of a lifetime and all of a sudden getting involved etc. We appoint a new manager and all of a sudden everyone expects we can suddenly spend millions we haven't ever spent at a time when it;s even harder to leverage, when we are also trying to finance a stadium.

EXPECTATION.

People continually choose to ignore reality. We are a good side. Players that will improve our first team are thin on the ground, cost a lot of money in fee and wages and we are behind about 30 clubs and competing with another 12 or so for those players.

We make less profit than an edge of town Tesco store. Levy is possibly trying very hard to get exactly one or two of those high calibre players - the only ones that will truly guarantee to make an immediate difference - for AVB. If he was forcing less decent players on AVB, chances are we'd fucking have them by now. AVB wants Moutinho (£30) and Willian (already knocked back 20m from Chelsea) and LD (£Fuck knows but even JJ said not Levy's fault). maybe Levy is really trying hard to make these happen and this is why we haven't done it yet. Maybe, just fucking maybe he's busting his balls to get the type of player that AVB has at the top of his list and this is why we haven't signed anyone yet.

Sure, move on you say, to fucking what ? JJ has said himself AVB has poo pooed some lesser options, so maybe it's not a case of AVB not being backed but AVB insisting on certain players who were very, very hard to buy.

REALITY

It might not be what some of you think.

I hope we go for Isco. Dembele is a great player, but Isco is going to be a superstar in a year or two, and someone that we'd need to sign now before he's put in that £30 million bracket.

And what is the chairman doing to temper expectations? We finish fourth and he gives Redknapp the boot. Then he hires someone who could be hot shit and tells him CL qualification's the minimum target. So we start the season with Defoe as our only striker, a geriatric in goal and Modric hanging around like a bad smell with no replacement got. Fan-fucking-tastic.

I agree that Isco is going to be brilliant, but is he a Modric replacement? I don't think so. He's not a CM, Dembele is. Shouldn't be a case of one or the other. Not entirely sure where Isco would fit into our team unless we sell VdV but ideally I'd like to sign both him and Dembele (rather optimistic I know).

Yet Levy insists that the minimum requirement for AVB is to make the top four. You better tell it to Levy and the board they are the ones who expect to eat the best food at the banquet when in reality we can only feed off the scraps.
