I know nothing about him, but our main CM signing needs to be of higher quality than a 13mil evaluated player. If he is the second CM signing fine but our CM signing should be our highest priced signing IMO unless theres a really good player for 30-40mil.
I sense a significant flaw in this logic and I'm sure this is the first time this calculus has been utilized.:cautious: No other transfer windows have ever passed with a poster assuming a player wasn't good enough because his fee was too low. This is new 'thinking' and kudos to you for blazing this trail.(y)

There is no objective pay vs ability scale. Please stop this before the numerous posts remind you that X player cost Y coming from another league etc etc and now look at him. It really makes the TW tedious...especially when you "know nothing about him".

Delaney is a good all around MF. Good enough for us and where we want to go? Not sure about that but he would distribute it better than any MF we have (he is probably ahead of Winks at this stage). However, I tend to agree with your conclusion that we should be aiming for a higher ceiling/better player but I disagree with how you got there.

Your last point is all I meant, we should be aiming higher and with 150mil thrown around transfer spend we should be looking for higher valued players. The bargain shopping has been incredibly hit or miss and I know its like that with high priced transfers as well but this team needs to add studs not more just a guys.

From what I've seen his main strength is his versatility and that he's solid-to-good at pretty much everything. He won't blow people away when they watch him but he's consistently a rock in Bremen's midfield (even when the rest of the team is playing woefully like the first half of their season).
Sounds like Teemu Tainio. Could do worse with someone like that in the squad but hope he's not the main CM signing.

Delaney was the best player in the Danish league, which is about as competitive as league one . He played for my local teams rivals, but you could still only admire his tenacity and ball handling. He would be fun to watch every week, but he is nowhere near good enough for Spurs if we want to progress. He can go to some midtable team, like Arsenal, where he can continue playing for a team I hate.

Surely he can't be the German player we're after. Hercules made it clear that we're after someone more exciting.

Would rather spend 60m+ on one midfielder and leave the other spots to our own youth than two guys worth 20-30m each.

Pretty uninspiring link, mainly because I have never heard of him. If we are in for him you would like to think Poch would have canvassed CE’s opinion on him.

Would he get in any of the other Top 6’s midfields? Seems like we should be aiming higher.

As a Dane, this is just not the signing we need to do.

To be fair Delaney is pretty much our 3/4 best player after Eriksen, Schmeichel & Sisto.

He is a great box to box midfielder his strenghts are:
- Hard Working
- Ability to score goals
- Long range power shots
- His heading is probably the main one, being not that tall his jumping is insane and scores alot of headers when coming into the box from a cross.

He's pretty good in all the areas - a good all rounder as you will say - no real weaknesses. But he's just not up there to be 1st choice in Spurs, could be a OK backup.

However this story is probably just not a agent-one linking everybody with Tottenham as usual.

Of course, just saying we are in the time where we should be aiming higher than bargain shopping.

I don't think we should go there and say that if the player haven't made a name for himself, we don't want that player. imo we're not gonna go and sign world class every time. Players have to start somewhere and maybe Delaney is just the kind of player

I know what you're saying but there may well be a 'marquee' signing to go along with a few more 'pragmatic' ones this summer. I'm not ITK but I have a feeling in my water that by the time we move into our new home, there may be a few exciting new faces on board.

We shouldn't be competing in the same market as Brighton or Everton for players!!!

he would start for Brighton and be one of their best players, with us he'd be rotation/backup. Signing someone like Delaney to provide cover for the first team doesn't rule out signing a marquee midfielder, depth is just a much needed thing with PL/CL/FA Cup/League Cup resulting in loads more matches than lower table teams. We don't pay enough in wages or win enough silverware to get many first team quality players that are willing to sit on the bench or just be in a rotation for very long so sometimes players like Delaney are worth it because they are necessary in case of injuries/fatigue, they won't complain about playing time, and they don't get crazy high wages.

Brighton's acquisitions are probably the shrewdest of any world club because of the background of the owner etc. Never gonna be a bad thing to be in for the same players, even if we're aiming higher. And as said, he'd be backup for us and a star player for them

Not seen him play for Bremen but seen him plenty of times for the national team. He had a really good game against Armenia, scoring a hat trick but the other games he has not stood out for me. I would say nope.

A little update on Delaney:

Werder Bremen have confirmed that they are negotiating about selling Delaney.

The club is not known, but BILD say its a club from the PL.

I hope its not us by the way; he is a good player, but not good enough for a top 4 club in the Premier League.

Brighton & Fulham seems to be the ones most strongly linked with him, so I wouldn't worry
