It always felt like a big longshot. But, the concerning thing is the lack of links to other players that will realistically improve our attacking depth. Granted, it's still incredibly early (especially for us), and most of the shit in the papers is blatant guesswork.

In a way us going for Lemar who was by no means a cheap option is a good sign for those wanting something a bit more ready-made than Janssen/N'Koudou. I can't say I'd complain if we did.

It's mostly just frustration at the hurdles our financial situation, and like you said lack of linked alternatives.

Personally I'd quite like to see us gazump Everton for Sandro Ramirez but I'd imagine if we did that again plenty would moan we were taking the cheap option.

Perhaps they were not offered them !!

We are not the richest which is why we should be expanding the Dele and Bale model as much as possible because once top players reach 21/22 we can`t afford them

Now you're just trolling. Bitching about going for cheap players, then saying we should be going for players before they become expensive.

you obviously don't understand the difference between buying the top young player in France Ousmane Dembélé last season before he moves to a big club like Dortmund and settling for average players like Njie and Nkouduo...
It was reported Dembele was open to coming to Spurs but we dithered and Dortmund didn't and he went there for about £15 million and I am sure he is not on £100k a week!!

Chelsea got around FFP by buying a lot of apparently highly thought of young players before FFP actually started. They were then on Chelsea's books when it kicked in. Since then, they have had upwards of 25 players (I think it was 34 last season) out on loan and any sales is included in their football income.

46 at some point last season.

Some of those were in European teams and a conflict of interest was suggested.

On checking I can only find one source going as high as 38. I am sure I saw 46 somewhere.

But that's what the club have tried to do with N'jie and N'Koudou, thought they found talent, but after a season which both had disrupted pre seasons, and injuries have also found out that when it matters they most probably don't put the effort in at training and unable to force their way into the 1st team.

N'jie since he returned to France doesn't seem to have done anything special.

Now when our scouts followed them, they obviously looked to have talent, the only difference with Dembele he has gone on and proved it in Germany, whose to say that if he had joined us, he might of struggled with the London life, or the double training sessions.

Oh and let me introduce you to 2 players we got through that route can I just not from France, Dele Alli, and Eric Dier

don't need billions look at Dortmund and Atletico which are similar sized clubs to Spurs

I agree but the only downside is we have to compete with 5 of the biggest and richest clubs in Europe, they both only have to compete with one. Therefore on a domestic level we have it harder to maintain CL status and challenge for domestic honours. The pressure of both will only ramp up for us with our supposed financial disadvantages.

They are the model for sure, but I can see why some wish we could compete on a fairer playing field financially. It's not like Lemar was even a household name sure thing, no different to Carrassco when Atleti signed him to be fair...

We didn't 'dither' - we asked him to come and train with us before completing the deal and he threw his toys out of his pram.

Dortmund are not infallible, they signed Immobile and sold him the season after. Same for Kampl. There is X amount of clubs competing at the top for the top players, then there is the next tier of clubs looking for the next big players, and there is just as many clubs in that bracket competing with each other. Signing Dele, Dierr, Wanyama and Toby in the last 3 seasons is pretty good going.

Any evidence of 'throwing his toys out of his pram' or did he just turn down the trial?

Not sure we should go overboard about Lemar choosing Arsenal over us if he does, they were always going to be favourites in this race what with the French connection higher wages and them being a Champions league club and we're not.
I know you me and the facts know otherwise but at this point that is still the perception, especially in France.
Might have been a useful purchase but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, if in fact he even leaves Monaco.

He was the top young player in ligue1 why are giving him a trial doesn't show confidence. Hate to be harsh but we are known for stuff like this.

It wasn't so much the trial that bothered me ( to be fair, Wenger once apparently asked Ibrahimovic to come over for a trial before signing him so we're not the only ones).

Assuming the story is accurate, what got me was asking the player to pay all expenses involved. Now I'm sure he can afford it, but it's hardly a smart thing to do when trying to woo a potential asset.
