Tim Sherwood may have only three games left as Tottenham Hotspur manager, but what he has achieved in the past four months should give food for thought not only to Daniel Levy but to the chairmen of other Premier League clubs.

WHAT? in the hands of Eriksen? the same player who was left out for a month, the same player who has nearly 50 caps at the age of 22, or the player he claims to have seen at Wembley aged 17 despite that game being when he was nearly 19 and not at Wembley. Eriksen says he's never played at Wembley.

Well done Tim, you were given a known gem and he's scoring goals. Not sure even Harry Redknapp would claim responsibility for this move. Actually, he probably would.

Did Sherwood write the piece himself?

I am trying to make sense of your rant in the context of the article posted, and am failing utterly.

seems clear to me. TS said he saw Eriksen play at wemvley and recommended him to Levy. Poster stating that couldn't be the case. Don't know about the authenticity of the claim but its fairly clear.

rant is generous, thank you.

Tottenham’s academy might also have had the outstanding Christian Eriksen in their ranks if Levy had listened to Sherwood’s recommendation five years ago.
“I watched him playing as an 18-year-old for Denmark against England and rang Daniel Levy the next day to say we have to sign this boy,” said the manager. “Now £10 million later he is here and it is all good news,” he added with a grin.
from the article.

The full quote doing the rounds actually says 'against England at Wembley', where he has never played. Now he has inherited Eriksen, left him out for a month, and the article hangs on Eriksen being one for Sherwood's future. Makes you wonder if Sherwood is actually telling the truth, and assuming he has no future at the club, makes you wonder whether he briefed the journalist himself or even wrote the piece.

I understood the article to be about how there are youngsters at English clubs who have the same potential as Eriksen but who are not getting the chances. Tim is bigging himself up for giving youngsters chances.

He is right though about managers not being interested in club's academies. Kevin Sheedy the Everton youth coach was absolutely scathing about David Moyes in that respect.

We all wondered/feared where Spurs would be after GB left for Real. I expected it would take time for the new players to settle, but I doubt that many foresaw such a disappointing and deflating season? I know we are only 7 pts behind Woolwich Pikeys, but the GD paints a far more honest picture of the season. Few home games have been exciting , we've not been entertaining 'traditional Spurs style" that often, and been limp vs the top 4.

However, the emergence of Bentaleb and Kane into genuine squad players, that have at times kept out the star names, bodes well for next season and beyond.

I don't understand how a full quote mentioning Wembley can be "doing the rounds."
The article, with quotes, is available on the Telegraph on line and Wembley isn't mentioned. Eriksen did indeed play against a England in 2011 and this is presumably the game Sherwood is referring to.
I appreciate that people have a hatred for Sherwood well beyond the rational, but sticking to the facts would be helpful.

If people are able to remove their anti-Sherwood goggles for a minute then they might see that this is actually quite an accurate appraisal of his contribution this season and qualities as a manager.

they haven't used the full quote, the independent:

"I watched him at 17 years of age at Wembley for Denmark and I rang (chairman) Daniel Levy the day after and said that he need to sign this boy - £10million later he is finally here, so that is all good news."

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...d-keen-to-keep-christian-eriksen-9272981.html

doing the rounds - as in, quoted elsewhere but not in the telegraph piece.

Meanwhile: http://www.thefa.com/news/england/2014/mar/christian-eriksen-interview

“I’ve never played at Wembley. And of course it would be special to play there."

Just facts, just for you. In 2011 he was not 17. Sherwood should be more accurate when speaking, otherwise you just think he's lying or rewriting history to suit himself.

The average age of yesterday's team was 24.7 pretty good really. So some hope for the future. And first teamers like Vertonghen and Walker won't take the average down either..

Kane 20 Adebeyor 30
Eriksen 22 chadli 24 paulinho 25 Lennon 27
Rose 23 Fryers 21 Kaboul 28 naughton 25
Lloris 27

So next season with experience under their belt, we will have a good squad. Just need a manager with vision of playing style for a first team. Left back, centre back and forward....

I think Tim's focus speaks volumes about his ability as a manager/coach. He is still a youth team coach and is constantly preoccupied with bringing young players through and enjoys seeing them break into the first team squad. Young players are what Tim is experienced in handling, and he is probably not bad when it comes to that. He seems unable, though, to handle the (probably difficult) task of making a group of very talented international stars into a strong unit, and his general man-management leaves a lot to be desired as the Sandro incident clearly shows.
The guy has so many shortcomings I would feel sorry for him if I wasn't so pissed off by all the bad publicity his antics have brought along. The sooner we appoint a proper manager the better. But levy had better get the right man this time.

As for spotting Eriksen's potential Tim was well late. Ajax brought him to Amsterdam when he was 16.

£10 mill well spent on Eriksen at 21 from Ajax.. 5 years outstanding development and top level first team action.. I doubt he would be the same player if he came to us at 16.. We have done ok bringing through young Brits like Lennon, bale and walker. But our record with teenage foreign signings not so good...

I didn't see Wembley (or wemvley) mentioned either unless it was a different article? Please link me if possible to that quote (not drivel) but actual quote please.

its a good job he trusts and has faith in the youth because most of our top players will have moved on
an example of tim*s management skills is he has highlighted the possobility of eriksen departing for pastures new;when me personally this outcome had never entered my head
he now has shouted from the rooftop that eriksen may move
if tim could have should have kept his gob shut ;the elite of europe would most likely assumed that eriksen was going nowhere after only one season
if ever a man should keep his mouth shut or at least engage his brain then tim is your man

Maybe Eriksen is on his bike. He will have anticipated champions league push with the players he arrived with. Maybe a clause or maybe his agent has engineered a move back to Europe or to one of the top four in UK.

I don't see Eriksen pushing for a move this summer. He is a quite modest young bloke who seems well aware that he is still learning his trade as a midfielder in a tougher league than he is used to playing in. Eriksen is still developing as a player, and his full potential appears good enough to see him joining the likes of Luka and Bale in a couple of years. Hopefully he will reach that level as a player, but we would be foolish to sell him to any rival team - and wouldn't it be nice if we could finally build a great team around a star player and break into Europe's elite ourselves instead of selling on our top assets.
