Timo Werner is the current number 1 in German forward. So, I am sure he would be advised to pick the club which could offer him the highest possibility of game time in his position.

So, on this front I am pessimistic on a possible transfer to us. It won't be about salary. For us , apart from transfer fee, we will have to convince he will be firmly in the plans and matchday XI consistently.

Good thing is he can play outwide but his best through the middle. Something like Aubameyang situation for Scum. If done , will be a great signing for us - no questions.
The part in bold alone, will just make him stay in bundesliga, IMO.

Its 'Fluid' but nothing happening so far
Now I’m not some sort of forum post forensics analyst but my interpretation of this is: we’re monitoring Werner’s situation and IF a situation arises where he becomes available this window, we’ll compete for him...but that’s yet to happen.

Could be completely wrong too, obviously.

LOL never in a million years happening. Is he a German player? Yes. Where has all good German players gone the past 3-4 years? Bayern.

We failed to sign a single player last window even when we could have upgraded on multiply position, but most like in the CM role.

Don't do it to yourself lads, even though it's hard not to get excited, just remind yourself that we are Tottenham :barefoot:

Thing that gives me hope is that Levy may see our chances for Top4 in danger if he doesn't get the chequebook out...
Tbh as a business man it makes more than sense to invest now, to increase our chances for major income in the future. Would be more than devastating to start the first season in Levys flagship project stadium in the europa league...

So I see a chance that we could get someone in... probably not werner though

Totally agree. Not even letting myself get remotely excited about this

We could probably double or triple his wages if we wanted to and most footballers go for 'a bird in the hand' approach, considering their career could end in a split-second with a bad challenge. Plus there's a healthy sign-on fee thrown in as well.

And the same is also true of clubs looking for a decent transfer-fee; one bad injury, especially for a player with 18 months left on his contract, and they won't be able to cash in their asset.

There are a number of issues however, not least the fact that RB Leipzig are in a tight battle for a CL place currently. They'd need to get in a forward sharpish, if Werner was to leave. That's massive disruption to the squad in the middle of the season. However, if they are already eyeing a long-term replacement for Werner, since he's only got 18 months on his contract, they might bring that player in now rather than later; they were always going to have to do this anyway.

But like many have already stated, it's very unlike Levy to make a 'statement' signing, especially in January. I think if this deal (or similar) happens, we'll know that our chairman is REALLY worried about not making CL next season and the financial implications of that scenario!

Even if there is the smallest chance of this happening, we must go balls out for it.

This is the time to be brave, even if it means overpaying.

No signings last summer.
Paper thin squad. (1st 11 great, suspect depth though).
Current injury crisis.
Manager in demand.

Pop quiz if you are Levy, what do you do??? Sit on your hands and pray it pans out, running a high risk we drop out of the CL race right as we enter the new stadium, and risk losing the best manager we’ve had in my lifetime. Or, try to help the manager succeed by giving him the tools for the job, not blindly hope he muddles through with one hand behind his back.

Let’s not be dismissive enough to think he’s out of our league. He’s not playing for a tier 1 team yet. Pricewise we should be able to compete. And we can offer him gametime, with the two up top formation we have been playing he could play with either Kane or Son. Just need to be bold enough to make it happen, now didn’t Poch say something about that recently???

My perception of JJ's posting is that it is always understated so if he says unlikely you might as well close the thread and if he says it's close then it's probably done and therefore if he says it's fluid but nothing's happening so far I tend to allow myself a level of optimism.
I do find it amusing that when we have ITK on championship players there are dozens of posts moaning about us shopping in the pound shop and when we get ITK like this we get posts saying we can't shop in Harrods he is too good for us and won't come!

Normally I would go that way. Werner is another situation though. 18 months left on his contract, will be sold by the summer if not now. Doesn't sound like anyone else is courting him so if we would go in decisively and be serious about it we could at least have a chance.

New contract talks with RBL, rumoured to have already been offered £100k per week.

I smell a new deal coming tbh, unless he fancies a new club. Seems a bit expensive for the 'different way we need to operate' etc.
This is definitely a Bayern in for moment, only this time it's no joke.
Timo wants CL as it's important anyway and to his Germany career too, which is important to German players. He will want good opportunities for starting places/time on the pitch and he will want to be somewhere where he feels he has the best opportunity to be seen by the national coach (for now Löw).

To that end I do not see him leaving Germany, not as long as he has suitors there willing to wait out his contract or buy him when RBL cannot get Timo to sign a new contract. Löw tends to prefer players who play alongside others in the Bundesliga and Bayern are sniffing. Recent rumour also suggests Dortmund are keeping an eye on Timo as well.

We are certainly going to have to go in hard on this one if we want it and really put on the charm offensive, because as soon as Kane is fit, where does Timo see himself playing? Competing vs Son, Lucas ,Dele or Erik? Or would he rather be the heir apparent to Lewandowski?

Yeah, sorry, I'll keep an eye open over here in Germany to rumours, forums etc... but I really don't see this one happening.
