Just because he's previously said that he'd fancy coming to the Premier League and we've been so let down lately with shit windows and no new stadium etc. I'd say it's time for his Baldness to step up and give us a marquee German signing.

If you can't get us someone decent in the middle of the park, a new Teddy and Jurgen partnership with Harry would be just fine by me. Resale value, expiring contract and potential profit, Daniel will be all over this tbf.

20% Optimistic.
20% more optimistic than me lol

Lots of teams with bigger pockets than us is the issue.

PSG, Juve, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Atletico, Barcelona, Chelsea, ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City & Bayern. Thats 12 teams who if they want a player can flash more cash in the snap of a finger than we can.

Thats without mentioning Dortmund, Napoli, Roma, Inter Milan, who seem to be more aggressive than us in the market as well.

I'd say that means we're overdue for a signing of this magnitude.

Dont do it to yourselves...every window we have these sorts of links and we get excited as nothing happens. Maybe this next summer will be different but January, when its even more difficult to do deals?!

Deals are difficult in January, but Chelsea manage to sign a player on loan, who was already on loan at another top club...

Have a real push for this one Levy.

Chelsea are a lot of things, but they certainly don’t sit on their hands when it comes to bringing players in. This seems like a real move their manager wanted too as opposed to the executives etc.

Where were all so thirsty for transfers, one bit of ITK and we delude ourselves that this could actually happen, myself included.

I really hope we sign him this month but somehow I can't see us spending big in January. Think it's more likely that we put Werner on the back burner until Levy's sure he's a good little earner. He's such a slow learner.

This one doesn't really make any sense to me.

1. He's too good to be a backup to Kane.
2. If we play them together he'll play the Son/Lucas role - a position in which we're already stacked.
3. He'll be expensive and we're not exactly flush with cash.

Considering the above why the hell would we spend 40/50/60 million on Werner when we're absolutely gagging for a midfielder?
I suppose we could play 2 up top as we have a lot this season but surely we should be investing that kind of money more wisely.

Yeah then summer comes with renewed optimism. Given our situation we need to make a signing like this.

Literally just about meaningless. Those stats are reflections of the teams they are on, and to a lesser extent, leagues they play in and competition they play.

How is Kane's xG a reflection of his ability as a striker? It's literally pointless. xG is created by the team as a whole, Kane is just the one who plays up top and ends up with the market share of the xG Spurs create. Same with Werner. Have you ever read the criteria for a "successful dribble"? It's laughable.

I love the concept of football analytics and even used to fiddle around with Python and Opta data, but when it comes to these things it's just so many miles behind something as simple as an eye test and watching the players.

Fact is Werner is more of a Son type player. Quick, some trick to him, capable of making an impact on the wing or in a forward position where he can stretch his legs. Solid finisher. I have nothing against him. The big problem is I can't think of one game where I've seen him do the things Kane does which our so critical for our style of play - holding up the ball, bringing others into play, winning aerial duels against big defenders, being able to force his will.

Werner could be very effective playing alongside Kane. We already have two or three high quality players in that position. I don't think he will come close to justifying his transfer tag playing as a lone striker for us.

“Will need movement from both sides to happen”

What a surprise. It’s always the same old story. We won’t pay the money to get these players over the line. If we want to sign someone like Werner in January and get a march on our rivals, and salvage something of this season seeing as we’ve lost out two highest goalscorers for a minimum of a month, we will need to pay a premium.

True, but you have to appreciate we are working to a budget.
Poch said that he won't change the transfer policy in spite of the injuries.
People really need to start listening to what he says instead of just lumping the blame on Levy all the time. He's very clear on what/who he wants and does not want others if his preferred targets are unobtainable. That said Werner has been on the radar for quite a while. If we can agree a fee(big if because they want an awful lot) then it's one we will do.

Good hear we are definitely interested in the right players yes the squad is threadbare but we have made a number of poor signings over the last few years and poch has learned from that obviously. As much as we all want new signings, we don’t want another njie, nkouda, Jansen or stanbouli etc... that come in and make no impact and we can’t shift out of the club

Doesn't necessarily mean we weren't in for him prior to Kane's injury. We could have been monitoring his situation either way. So what Poch said might not be so negative.

Think we would have monitored his situation, and probably decided to wait till summer (lesser fee & easier to negotiate I guess) - with the injury and sonnys absence it surely makes more sense to accelerate this and see if we can get him now

The fee's almost irrelevant when you consider the profile, circumstances and age of the player. Barring a total disaster, he'd be a reasonably prudent and profitable investment IMO.
