What's new

Tim's starting lineup was perfect! ...if you're Chelsea.

We had to win that game or it was pointless. 'At least we could have gotten something out of it' is pathetic.

Well it was pointless then as the probability of winning was spectacularly low.

Please do not reply with some utter delusion that we could have won when no one has beaten mourinhos bluescum at the bridge.

To accept abject mediocrity out of fear of failure

So we should try and win even if it leads to a greater probability of a worse outcome?

Tbh I agree with you. Id rather see us try and win and play attacking football but can you not see why managers employ the kind of tactics we saw on Saturday.

Yep at this point in the season it's not good enough taking a draw. Early in the season you'd quite happily take a point at the Bridge. A point to us was totally pointless though. Say if we went out there guns blazing we would have had a good chance of winning but most likely lost. The way we went out there we had a very good chance of a draw, a good chance of losing and a small chance of winning. In our circumstances the previous is better than the latter.

I understand what Tim tried to do, he tried to be clever using our midfield to shut down their game and our pace to hurt them on the break. The problem was though that he completely overrated the chances of Lennon or Walker hurting Chelsea on the break and he completely unsettled our own defence and general play. Yeah we controlled long periods of the game but Chelsea's defence were way way more comfortable than ours and in a tight game that points at only one likely winner.

T.S made the same mistake for once that AVB was consistently guilty of; being more concerned with stopping the opposition playing than enabling your own team

Afraid the bold part is where Im out. If we had gone out all guns blazing we would have had a good chance of winning????????????!!!!!!!!!!!

Mourinho has played 74 home games in the league and hasnt lost one.

On what planet would we have a good chance of winning?

Sorry but you sound utterly delusional.

Well Chadli is also pretty crap.

I would imagine that is how it would constitute a much of a muchness or do you genuinely believe that Chadli for sig would have led to a different result?

Thank you!- i wasn't praising Siggy just saying with the other available to us i don't think we would have spectacularly been transformed into a different attacking prospect.

How is a point pointless? Most teams have to earn a draw at Chelsea no one just gets one!

We needed three points to keep up with Arsenal or Liverpool. 4th was the only thing we had left to play for. To far behind already for 1 to be enough

So no-one should even attempt to beat Chelsea at home?

what i still don't get is the decision to play the way we did after the sending off, he put Sandro in at centre half, along side dawson, the simple choice would have been to play Naughton and Walker at full backs, dawson and Vertonghen at centre half,

the decisions after that helped cost us goals imo.

No one is denying that. I just didn't approach the game thinking that we would get 3 points and have we have just got one point i would have been more than satisfied.

You have higher expectations than me, its fine.

I just don't know what its based on....

Please explain to me how Chadli is pretty crap?

He's better than Siggy in every aspect of the game, especially if we're comparing them on the flanks, which is where Siggy played.

Faster, more direct, better dribbler, better cross, better in the air, better positioning.

I don;t understand where this notion that Chadli is crap has arisen from? He has impressed in the VERY limited appearances WAAAY more than Siggy has in the countless dreary appearances he's made.

In any case, anything is better than a player going AWOL for 90 mins. We might as well have had 10 men from the start.

Absolute joke that Siggy gets picked.

He is an attacking player who has scored 1 goal in 15 appearances.

Sig has scored 4 goals in 23 appearances.

Now I am in no way saying that sig is significantly better than Chadli but this notion that Chadli is a far superior player who could have had a marked effect on the outcome of the bluescum game is just nonsense.

So if sig is crap, Chadli is pretty crap. QED.

I have not read all the posts on this thread so apologies if I repeat what has already been written.

I am not a Sherwood fan and I do not think that he is the man to take the cub forward.

However I have to give respect where respect is due, and say that I have no real qualms with him after the debacle at the weekend.

First half, we played Chelsea at their own game, and IMHO we beat them. Chelsea defend deep, men behind the ball and attack on the break, exactly what we did, but better. You can only play as good as your opposition let you, and we didn't let them play. You sit and defend against Chelsea and bide your time, you may get something, you go gung-ho and try to batter them, you will get battered yourself.

What let us down was mostly crazy mistakes and bad luck. 99 times out of a hundred Verts stretched back pass would have found Lloris, Kabouls challenge was not a penalty for as long as I have a whole in my arse, it wasn't even a free kick ffs.

Yes it is another drumming from top 4 opposition but to be fair I am not as upset with this as the ones against Citeh or the Bindippers
