Whichever side of the "we need to sign players" debate you might be I can't understand why we haven't concluded a contract extension for Toby. It's all very well to tell the media Poch is happy with the squad and we aren't going to join the transfer madness, we have a stadium to build etc. but I just can't see any excuse for why we haven't concluded Toby's contract extension. This for me is the most concerning aspect of our lack of player activity this summer. There is no other club to negotiate with so really no excuses. This is just down to Levy. If he can't get this done we really should be deeply worried.

you realise the player has to sign it right? We can't announce it otherwise. Also this isn't a computer game, it's a little more complicated I imagine, than offering it, accepting it, done.

Of course but once again it isn't like this just became an issue. I get the "we will discuss it in the summer" during the season but what is the issue now ?

For those who rate this Spam please tell me if you will be fine if we don't extend Toby's contract this summer.

I rated it spam because of the misleading thread title. Not that I have to justify anything to you.

It's still the summer.

I didn't rate at all, but yes, I will be fine.

Let me explain:

Toby is as good a defender as we've had for many years- in my opinion he's every bit as good as Ledley was- and I'd love to see him finish his career at Spurs. If we lose him, I'll be a little bit sad for a short while, but then I'll move on. And so will everybody else. Players come and players go, it's the nature of the game. We've lost great players before, and will do again. Nobody's still crying over Hoddle, Gazza, Klinsmann, Modric etc are they?

There are many, many things that actually have a genuine impact on my life, but when all is said and done, football doesn't really, except for a couple of hours a week (and probably way too much time on here now I think about it) when it's entertainment and an escape. I gave up being upset by players leaving a long time ago when I realised it was going to happen no matter how much I wanted them to stay.

I'd like to think it is either mostly done or done already. If it wasn't I think we might have seen a bit more media linking Toby with a move out to Spain or PSG.

I was under the impression the majority of the terms had been agreed apart from the fact Toby wants a release clause. I can’t see Levy agreeing to something like that and I suspect Toby and his agent knows that too but it will be used to get slightly better terms. I imagine something will be announced soon though.
