But he will leave one day. They all do.
Good. So at least he's not turning one down.
We've been over this.
Everyone knows what the contract issue is. It's the buyout clause. Get that sorted and there'll be a new contract. There's no point in offering a new contract until that issue is sorted. And you don't sort it out by offering new contracts. You sort it out by talking with the player's reps, the people who get paid to do this for him, until you reach a mutually acceptable arrangement. Then you can draw up a new contract to offer the player. Not before then. It would be a waste if everyone's time.
So the fact that there's been no contract offer is not news. It is seriously not news.
If Toby were unhappy about it, it would be a problem. If he's not, and he says he's not, we need to stop panicking about a situation that makes perfect sense.
Yea hopefully when he’s old and lost it but ATM he’s the best CB in the league
Vertonghen is better IMO.
Maybe in better form atm but he’s not a better Cb.
Love Verts though
Toby was better in his first season but all last season and this season so far Verts been better, so more than just form IMO. Nothing against Toby, who is also a fantastic defender.
I'm always surprised that Verts doesn't get more recognition by the pundits. They all used to go mad whenever Rio Ferdinand brought the ball out of defence, but JV does it regularly and it hardly ever gets a mention.
Toby Alderweireld does not currently want to sign a new #thfc contract, according to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur.
Terreur: "At this point he does not want to sign a new deal."
Terreur: "Everybody in English football knows how Daniel Levy works - he is not the biggest spending president."
Terreur: "Alderweireld has had two good, good seasons at Spurs and knows what he can earn at other clubs."
Terreur: "He has seen with team-mates like Kyle Walker what he can earn who moved to Manchester City."
Terreur: "He is now 28, he has to think this could be my last big contract. He wants the big money now."
Terreur: "I can understand that from a players point of view, and I do not see Daniel Levy paying that."
Terreur: "There have been some, I would not say little problems, between him and his camp."
Terreur: "They still have not offered that new contract. That is worrying, they are worried he will not offer the money they would get."
Terreur: "That is why other clubs are sniffing around. He is not unhappy at Spurs, he likes to work under Mauricio Pochettino."
Terreur: "But if he can get double what he earns at Spurs, about £50,000-a-week, he might push for that move."
Terreur: "Spurs have now signed Davinson Sanchez for a lot of money, possibly with the idea in the back of their mind to replace Toby."
Terreur: "At this point everything points to a move next summer. But a lot can happen between now and next summer, so we shall see."
Just stingy if true and we don't want to pay him £100k p/w. Surely we'd pay him that. I would guess he wants a lot more than 100k.
Well that sounds shit
He don't have that many years left so i can understand that he want to cash in to be honest. I'ts a shame but understandable if true. He is going to live a life after football and want to live as comfortable as possible which is fair enough. But I don't think we are far away from winning something and i think the players also knows this. its a shame that some of them want money more then titles but again - at clubs like city you get them both. There is in general no loyalty left in football.
The annoying thing is we reportedly pay the likes of Sissoko £90k per week. And someone like Toby gets £50k.
This is one where we just need to find a way to get the contract done. Losing him is fundamentally counter productive. The agent's fees alone on signing a replacement would run into millions. We're obviously going to have to give Harry, Eriksen, Dele etc increases anyway, so putting Toby up there with the highest earners shouldn't rock the boat. He is basically the best centre back in the league.
He's awesome, but, so is Poch's capability with any reasonable defender (Lovren looked awesome in his year or two under Poch).
If he doesn't want to sign again, £60m or so would be the money, think Poch would end up strengthening us overall with the money (just like Walker IMO).
Agree with @spurs9 tgat Verts is better, plus he is much more Tottenham than Toby. Personally think he'll be off next summer along with Rose (if fit), the £100m+ might soften the blow.
Are you sure about that?
It's a load of bollocks, and that should be obvious.
Are you really prepared to believe that Spurs aren't willing to pay him more to keep him longer? If so they would be the most stupid of stupid, inept, unprofessional, uncommercial, thick and ignorant bastards, and I don't believe that to be the case do you?
People just need to chill the fuck out, we'll get it done just like we have for other player's contracts. This is being blown up by the media especially everyone he goes off on intl break because the Belgium press keep asking him about it, just relax.
ofc we are willing to pay him more but still.. we probably won't pay a lot more than 100k and he can get a lot more elsewhere.
As could a number of our players but they still signed up...
