ugh, post: 5538606, member: 26984"]My point is King never got to level of Toby...of course injuries was the cause and so we never got to truly see him at his best. we will never know how good he could have been. But nobody can argue that Toby is the best centre half we have had in years. Maybe even ever[/QUOTE

You must have only seen Ledley in the twilight of his career as if (like some of us older fans) you were supporting Spurs before his breakthrough season you would have a very different view. Ledley in his prime was in my eyes the best defender of his generation. I like Toby but he couldn't lace Ledley's boots in my opinion.[/QUOTE]

Toby is a fantastic player, no doubt, but Ledley in his prime was the best CB I've ever seen in the PL. Brave, intelligent and quick both with and without the ball. Very few CB's can step into midfield with the ease that King could and still be effective (Sorry Eric).

It's a shame we didn't get to see Woodgate and King partnered more often, they would certainly give Verts and Toby a run for their money as best partnership in recent times.

I'm in my 40's so I've seen all there was to see and although I appreciate how good he was I feel its unfair to say he was as good or better than Toby. Not trying to rile anyone...just an honest opinion

You're older than me Grandad! ;)

This place would be very dull if we all had the same opinion so no worries there buddy. He is a hero of mine and in my opinion the best centre half to wear the shirt (in my lifetime)(y)

I agree that everyone has, rightfully, their own opinions of each player.

Personally , I think King was better than Toby. You have to use King's early pre-injury years to compare though. King had better pace and also was very timely in his tackles - hardly getting booked.

Another CH that I liked was Richard Gough. It's just a pity that he left after only a season.

Irrespective of Ledley being the better of the two imho, both are or were world class and we cannot afford to lose Toby.

I said in the ratings thread that the possible signing of Sanchez (a RCB) worried me that Poch sees Dier more as a CM. the Other worry could be that he's being signed because Alderweirled isn't signing his new deal and we are preparing for him leaving next summer?

Or maybe we're selling Wimmer, and want a good replacement, which makes by far the most sense.

Maybe, but It would make a to more sense if this guy was a LCB, but he's not. Which is what we are losing in Wimmer.
We've only been linked with one LCB this whole window - Ben Gibson. Probably not as important as we all thought.

Rose won't be sold this summer (IMO), but could well be next summer.

If Toby doesn't sign then he has 1 year left at the end of this season. Levy would have to sell rather than than risk him going on a free to where he wants. So potentially we could end up selling Rose and Toby next summer. Horrible scenario

I think Levy is too smart to let it get to that scenario.
