I like to think that after the window shuts we will get a contract done. Waiting to see what money we have left and Toby waiting to see if we show serious ambition birth to strengthen the team and keep him

If Evans is priced at £20m + and Walker went for £50m ish Toby must be worth £70 - £80m it would be a very bad idea for us to put buy out clauses into any contract given the way the prices have gone up this year alone.

There would be no point in offering him a new contract with a buyout clause at £28m as that could just be met in January, and if he wants he's off. Rather we just put our best offer on the table and leave it there, if he wants to sign great if not he can see out the last 2/3? years of his contract, and hope something better comes along when he's in his 30's

Also I just don't see DL every agreeing to clauses as it takes away his pride and joy; the haggle and getting the best deal.

Or do what Real did in relation to Isco and set the clause at half a billion quid, give or take.

If he and/or his agent are demanding a release clause I can't imagine that will be acceptable...

(unless DL has invented reverse invisible ink and after they sign another couple of zeros appear on the end of the clause)

It was said in jest.

Trix said we will quite likely be renegotiating contracts once our incomings are sorted.

Surely just use the invisible ink as it was intended and make the whole clause disappear?

Come on.

Toby deserves a little respect, lets give him his £10billion get out clause, with the monies being delivered by hand in the smallest denomination

Even if Levy put that clause in he'd still be sat there pissed off after the deal thinking he could have got more.

Trix said this in the Davison Sanchez thread, thought it was relevant here:

"With regards contracts...at least one(and I'm lead to believe there are others) agent has been told that the club wants to bring in the incomings before discussions for improved contracts start. If we start shelling out 20-30k pay rises, the money incoming players agents will demand will increase significantly as well.

My mates opinion is that Rose might not have been on that list due to hardly playing since his last pay rise, which is why he has spoken out. As I say though the Rose bit is not ITK and is only an educated guess on my sources end."

Pochettino on Alderweireld contract: "Toby is like other players. They signed their contracts and they were so happy when they signed them."

Would suggest the ITK about the contract being already signed is a bit wide of the mark, hope we resolve this.

I'm in my 40's so I've seen all there was to see and although I appreciate how good he was I feel its unfair to say he was as good or better than Toby. Not trying to rile anyone...just an honest opinion[/QUOTE]

I think you might be on your own in that opinion mate. Ledley was the best ever, they even picked him for England although he was crocked. I think Toby is special and very necessary to the side but Ledley was pure class he had it all.
