I'm pretty sure that Poch said a few weeks ago that while the window was open it was a case of getting players in. Then once the squad was sorted any further discussions with existing players would/could take place to ensure they are happy with us. The window only closed 3 days ago and with international breaks not a lot could have happened so far.

Time to be sensible... however this is football so we can forget about that

Hope we get this one done soon. Very un Levy like letting him go into this stage of his contract!

We had info that contracts would be dealt with after the window. Hopefully this one gets sorted sharpish.

I do not see why Levy needs to rush a contract extension. Sure, it would send a good signal, if Toby extended his contract.

However, if he and his agent want to play hard ball, we can just sit tight till next summer. Belgium qualified for the World Cup, so he will want to play well and be fit for that.

Knowing our luck, he will pick up some injury at some point. At that point, we could offer him a contract extension. I think that most players are more open to extending their contract, when they are out injured, since it reminds them that their career can be over very quickly if they are unlucky.

Obviously, I hope he does not get injured, signs a new contract, stating that he wants to play for us for as long as we deem him good enough and that he is happy with whatever he is getting paid, since all he does for work is basically a hobby.

£25m. He'll be over 30 then. Would one of the mega clubs want him, or someone younger?
Of course they would want him, it would be an absolute steal. At 30 he'd still have another 2 or 3 years at the very peak of his abilitys.

He's just keeping his options open, fair enough. It may be that he's not sure that he wants to renew his contract at the mo and he might be considering a move on to one of the mega clubs for a big salary if an opportunity arose. I think the club knows that and that's why we've brought in Davinson.
Hopefully we can persuade him to stay and offer him an appropriate salary in his new contract. On the other hand, he might move on next summer. But it's not the end of the world if he goes, and we should respect his decision if he decides that.

I dont even think he's doing that TBF. He obviously wants, and is willing to stay, but wants what he's worth or at least very close.

There's just too much coverage of this in the press at the moment. We need to get this deal wrapped up if it is on the cards... The noise will just get louder and this is how players heads are turned.....
