The comment I responded to implied that without money to spend Guardiola isn't capable, this is ridiculous. Yes, he spends high amounts, the players required to execute what he wants tend to cost money, but he has also more than proven himself as a fantastic coach and an exemplary tactician. He's now working the hardest job he ever had because he is in the most conietwtive league, so naturally he's not been as successful so far, but any implication that he is anything but a fantastic manager is bonkers.

Also, money doesn't guarantee success, not by any stretch of the imagination. It helps, but if you don't have a manager who can motivate, who can coach, who can find solutions to issues. Leicester winning the league should show you that, because for one season Ranieri outfoxed everyone.

Look, I'm going to be open - I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about the whole Pep-Fap-Athon thing. He's a rival team's manager. He showed himself a bit passive-aggressive last season when things weren't going his way - while maintaining his look at me, look at how quietly I talk, that makes me a really nice person...honest persona. And, bluntly, he employed the Iberian Technique of tapping up on us with perfect measure when we were in the middle of a title challenge! The one were they publicly name which players they are targeting from a rival club, but it's not really tapping up because they couch it in terms of negative expectation, i.e. If it was possible I would love to sign Walker and Rose because they are the best full-backs in the league...but I don't think Tottenham would sell. Oh, yeah, so, on national television you have just let these players know that the wealthiest club in the world wants to buy them without any formal approach to their club - tosser! Him and Mourinho did exactly the same thing within a week of one another when we were at the height of a title challenge. What names did they mention? Walker, Rose, Dier!. Which players left, were unsettled, kicked up a little stink or at least let it be known that they would suddenly be happy to leave? Walker, Rose, Dier! Coincidence? I don't think so. And who was first in at that? Everyone's favourite PepTide, that's who. And he has got off with it scot-free - by Spurs fans. No-one even seems to be annoyed that he was happy to potentially damage our title challenge, when we were the only realistic challengers to the Chavs, at the height of his passive-aggressive tantrum because his five gazillion pound squad wouldn't do exactly what he wanted within five seconds and he wanted some of the toys one of the poorer boys had!

Hyperbole, maybe a tad - but I think a point has to be made. He built a great squad at Barcelona, kinda from the bootstraps, they played some great football and they won things. But they are still one of the richest and most prestigious clubs in the World, so it's not exactly like 1980's Auxerre, or even Poch with us IMHO. So, if he was a build up from youth type manager, why the fahook didn't he just stay that instead of trying to reinvent himself as the new, give me a bottomless pit of money and I'll win things quick Mourinho of the football World? And did he succeed at Bayern? Up to a point, and up to a point only. Bayern are, IMHO, pushing for the spots behind Real and Braca in biggest clubs stakes, and there is little doubt in my mind that they would have been expecting a CL from Wunder-Pep. Did he deliver one? NO! So, he's off from there as the new quick-fire money for trophies Mourinho having not really succeeded fully, and washed up at richest club in the world city.

In his first summer he spent an absolute fortune, and again shows no signs of building a team from youth up, as per his Barca rep. And from the off, it was like he was beyond criticism, even from rival fans! Even on here, a Spurs forum the last time I looked, I got grief for calling it how I saw it. I said it was far more competitive than anything he was used to and that there would be no clubs lying down to die after going a goal down like happens against the mighty Barca - I got grief. When they won their first ten games on the trot, everyone was fapping about the possibility of Pep going through the season unbeaten. I watched all of those games and said their defence looked fragile - I got grief. I pointed out that even in their league opener feeble Sunderland, who couldn't score in a brothel, got behind their defence repeatedly - I got grief. In the build up to our home game with them, when the Pep-Fap was in full flow, I again pointed this out and that we were undefeated too, but no, they were gonna wipe the very floor with us...'cos, y'know, it's Pep. This summer, when I suggested that maybe their defence wasn't sorted, that maybe, like many Continental managers with big reputations from big leagues with a couple of real rivals and a lot of gimmes, his way of setting up a defence and expecting it to function may not translate to the intensity and competitiveness of the BPL - this is somehow an impossibility, 'cos. y'know, it's Pep. I said they were doing all the same things, despite their new peronnel at full-back and in goal, the way they played across their box, the balls they made to players with their backs to goal, just generally the way he has them set-up to play and if we had played with our usual intensity and our pressing A-game they wouldn't have looked so comfortable - and you would think I was a new Maggie Thatcher Milk snatcher FFS! I have watched them against, Brighton, Brighton got behind them; watched them play Everton, Everton got behind them; watched them play Bournemouth, Bournemouth got behind them. And frankly, Liverpool didn't concede five goals against them because Mane got sent off, but because their defence is shite (Continental manager, big rep from two horse league, doesn't seem able to set-up defence for intensity and competitiveness of Prem - sound familiar?), but before he was sent off, Liverpool exposed the City defence time after time. Without the sending off, Liverpool could still have lost and still have conceded five, but the result could have been anything, a cricket score!

Uncle Pep, everyone's favourite, giver of sweeties to little children and saviour of football. He's a rival manager for feck side! He's Guardiola, money-bags City's manager. He is a passive-aggressive nerk, happy to Iberian Technique us over Walker and Rose at the height of a title challenge, who has proven nothing in this league even with a pot of gold that he is loadsamoney waving around in everyone's faces! Gawd, criticising him get's you treated like you've just kicked someone's favourite pet dog when the poor dumb brute was lying on the sidewalk getting the dying rays in a little patch of sunlight after a hard days graft bringing brandy to poor folk stuck in snowdrifts, herding sheep and guiding the blind! Feck him, feck him in the ear, feck him in the other ear!

Seriously, though, what folk are saying is true, and they are allowed to say it. I'm sure poor little's Pep's ears aren't burning and if they are he he should man up. He failed to win the CL at Bayern, and, despite spending a fortune, he has achieved exactly sweet FA at City so far. And, in achieving sweet FA at City so far, he has not been totally pleasant in dealing with it and he has tried to shaft our club over. Personally, I think some of this about Toby is coming from his quarter and not all just Toby's agent - and that would be very underhand again, wouldn't it! And I think it is a fair observation that he does seem to want to unsettle his rivals' players and then flash the cash at them. And that isn't exactly what we do, because, frankly, Liverpool, ArseAnal, City, United and Chelsea are our rivals and there is absolutely zero chance of us ever bullying a player out of any of those clubs for the foreseeable future. Feck 'im!

Agreed entirely and you weren't alone. Certainly I posted as far back as 3 years ago that I thought he was overrated and would struggle massively in his first PL season. Also agree that he is a tosser. Just a non flamboyant one

He's not that indispensable any more like he was in 2015, like our defence isn't going to fall apart if he does leave, obviously we want him to sign but if he doesn't sign up then it's really not the end of the world.

I disagree. For me he’s the lynchpin of the defence and it’s no coincidence that we’ve become a lot better and the players around him have as well

He's got two years left on his current one plus a further one year option. I don't understand the rush.
If we take the extension option there's a clause that he can leave that summer for 25m. In two years' time that really will be nothing. Basically if it doesn't happen this season there has to be some serious doubt over his future.

Absolutely nothing to suggest it won't happen though. Still suspect he'll sign in the next 4-6 months.

He was before hie injury, since he's come back he hasn't been the same player...Vertonghen is more important to our defence since last year.

Not saying we won't miss him cause we will, it's just we actually are not totally dependent on him anymore like we were in 2015.

Foyth? The unproven 19 year old defender who could yet turn out to be the next Chiriches? Yeah, Aldeweireld can go now.... we won't miss him (much!)
