Toby Alderweireld praised our supporters for the role they played in Tuesday’s home win over Brighton.

With the clock ticking down and the visitors defending in numbers, a breakthrough at our new stadium was proving hard to come by until Christian Eriksen stepped in with a long-range strike that crept beyond goalkeeper Mat Ryan to give us a precious 1-0 victory in the battle to secure a top four spot.

Really that is not how I heard it. I thought we went quiet for 60 minutes. Very disappointing South bank. Many had left when we scored. Same old crowd looking for the players to lift the atmosphere on most occasions unless we are 4 nil up after 29 minutes.

Even then those same people can't be arsed when it's Brighton and not Barcelona.

He's not the first to say that about our fans in the new stadium, it's obviously making a difference - looks like the players have missed being at home as much as us.

I just google your sig. It linked to an Arse website as they were bleating about Jan coming to us.

Are Juventus going for bigger fish? Messi, perhaps?

Man Utd would be ideal for Hazard, I think. And vice-versa.

We've seen this story before. He'll get his game ironed out, turn into a goalscoring freak, win a few titles and then join Real Madrid for £120m in 2016.

Other than it being Chelsea and 2019, this guy was on the mark!

It is called reverse psychology dude. Its the Official Site news. A lot of what these players say are scripted or planned, in order to get the impact it needs. So when Toby says that, it is supposed to incite more passion from the fans and make the fans feel guilty if they dont make more noise.

Media psychology.

I know. Hasn’t really worked. I must say that too many in the wall of sound seems to have brought their season ticket to watch others create the atmosphere ?

From several comments made by players about earlier matches, it seems that the crowd noise is really loud on the pitch, even when it seems mild in the stands.

By the time Eriksen scored, there was a fair amount of audible frustration, but also swells of "come on you Spurs" every couple of minutes.

Sure there was frustration but it was mostly aimed at the officials not clamping down on the time wasting of Brighton which started in the very first minute of the game. Sure some were frustrated at the players but no probably a lot less the the usual meltdown on the game thread on here. Overall I thought the crowd did get behind the team.

I too was surprised to see so many leave the South stand. I thought they all prided themselves on being real supporters who stand for hours on end in the driving rain never stopping their chanting to even draw breath for the whole time. Clearly not
