Providing everyone stays fit and strong, considering our summer signings still haven;t fully setteld, I would sell Sig and maybe buy a LB and that is all. Fill up the rest with the talent from our academy
Yeah, but you should know, a club will never ever do that, it's way too risky. Even if the manager has faith in young boys just because he has been alongside them during their development, the chairman won't be having any of it. They have to assume that they won't be able to cope in the prem. An academy player will never replace a potential signing. Can't you see the monumental leap from reserve/academy football to the Premier League and the Champions League? Would you honestly put 100% faith in Carroll, Pritchard and Veljokivc? They need to be eased into the team, not thrown in the deep end as bloody summer signings going into a new season!

I've only just realised. What a ridiculous team for a young boy like Carrol to be a part of! Surrounded by 10 midfielders, many well experienced! This is simply not the right club for him. He's had 13 appearances in QPR's 29 games (God knows how many of them are starts) and does anyone know if he's had injuries? If he's been fit enough to start 80% of their games, then yes @tiger666, I am indeed saying he's wasted!
Carroll has started all but 4 games he has been unavailable for and he has never come on as a sub. He missed 6 games through injury and QPR had already played 5 games before he joined.

Good. Very glad to hear it! Sounds like he's definately started at least 80% of the time then. What is your source? Also, I notice that he hasn't been involved in any cups, not one appearance, which I found odd.

He didn't start cup ties as we were looking to recall him at one point!

Go to transfermarket.com search for Carroll and when in his profile, go to performance data and it shows by match when that player played, when injured, when on the bench and when not in the match day squad. Also shows how man mins they played before being subbed and how many mins they came on for if they were a used sub.

Why would Levy not be having any of it? Why do you think he put so much time and money into a complete overhaul of the academy in 04? It was in the hope that we would be producing first team players, to save/make more money, so yes I do think that's what he wants, and I'm sure he is glad Sherwood is playing Bentaleb and showing that his investment is starting to pay dividends. Just like with Livermore, Caulker, Townsend, Luongo and Byrne.

They have to assume that they won't be able to cope in the prem. An academy player will never replace a potential signing. Can't you see the monumental leap from reserve/academy football to the Premier League and the Champions League?
I can see the leap, but as the saying goes if you are good enough you are old enough. Levy I'm sure would like us to be sustainable and self-sufficient like Barca, Ajax and Southampton. The players at Barca and Ajax have been able to make to step up from academy to CL football. Just because someone has not done something it doesn't mean they can't, how else are they to get experience if they are not given the chance, same thing in real life when applying for jobs. Off the top of my head Eriksen, Fischser, Alderweild, Thiago and Cuenca have all come from academy football to CL football. Lest we forget our Next Gen side gave Barca's academy a pasting, before you say their academy is a lot better. Southampton also have Shaw, Ward-Prowse, Chambers and Shaw playing PL football straight from their academy. Bentaleb for us obviously, very few of us would have seen him play and in the u21 thread a lot of people were saying we reckon he could make the step up, even I didn't think he'd be this good and he wasn't even the one considered most likely to come up.

I also think you may have misunderstood me. I didn't mean they should be 1st team starters. But like I said earlier all of those players were considered to be as good as Bentaleb in varying degrees with Pritchard being the standout. Do I honestly think Carroll could play PL football? Yes. Do I honestly believe that Pritchard would offer more than Lennon right now, in terms of goal threat and possibly assists? Yes. Veljkovic I am more unsure about being a D/DM, don't know his strength relative to adults, but ability? yes I think he could play PL.

We bought 7 players last summer, and we are yet to see the best of any of them yet. We have an impressively deep and strong squad. Those players will be played in rotation, next year ideally and be more settled, we've barely seen Lamela. I see absolutely no point in buying players in the summer if noone leaves providing everyone stays fit. What is the point in buying another CM or Winger with the amount we have. Would just require more settling time, especially as we could play Carroll, Pritchard and Veljkovic as back up options. They would be added depth.

We could then actually make more money and sell Sig. Our players are more than capable to play 3rd/4th choice in some of these postions. Carroll has shown he can play PL and plays Engu21s. That's why I'd only buy a LB oh and maybe a young hungry striker as Ade and Soldado are 30, to compete with Kane in the eventuality one of them 2 will move on the next year. COYS

I thought you were saying if we need other positions filled, we should forget any signings and throw in our guys. I should have assumed you meant if our squad remains as it is. I'm sure you'd agree that if Eriksen, Soldado and Vertonghen all left, we couldn't throw in our guys instead of signing players. So when I said "would you honestly put 100% faith in" I meant would you put 100% faith in them that they would be effective alternatives to signings. Bentaleb obviously wasn't one of these players. Luke Shaw, I'm not sure.

That's cool misunderstanding.

But still with Soldado, while I rate Kane, it would be crazy to have only him and Ade next year so would def buy a striker.

Vertonghen same. With injury prone Kaboul, Dawson (great servant he is) and Chriches, who's good but still young and new, I would definitely not be 100% confident of Veljkovic just coming in and defending next year. NEeds to be eased in so would expect another defender.

Eriksen however while of course he is class. With options of Lamela, Paulinho, Townsend, Chadli, Dembele, Lennon, Bentaleb, Ade with of course Hotlby to come back and Sig if he still here, to play behind the striker or on the wing, I dont' really think it's essential to buy; and I would happily give Pritchard and Carroll a chance to fight for a place or be backup.

QPR have gone over their loan limit, hence Tom not being in the squad yesterday.

I wonder if we have time to recall him and add him to the Europa league squad?

Don't know the exact rules but why does that mean he can't be in the squad? Say your allowed 4 loans and they now have 5, how does the FA decide which one can't play or is that QPR's decision?

Lastly how amateur is that by QPR smh

If its a youth loan it doesn't count as one of the four

Anyway Carroll on the bench today

Hopefully the fact he isn't even starting now for QPR is a bit of a wakeup call to those who wanted him in and around the starting 11..

ehem, @thinktank :cautious:
I seen him play alot and would rather have near first team than on loan. He is better than Bentaleb but he needs a team that plays passing football to do well.

He doesn't suit QPR's mentality and for us he would be very useful in a 433

Mate, let's be fair here for a second. Other than Timmy Sherwood saying he could play for Barcelona, what's he done to prove that he's capable of playing in the premier league, let alone a top four side? Genuine question, not having a go, I'm just wondering if I've missed something. I know people like @thinktank can 'spot a player' but he's hardly pulled up trees wherever he's played

See sometimes you have to just assess how the person has played instead of trusting fans views. The performances from a development pov, were good at derby and I know a couple of coaches who go to their games and they loved him.

Then for England and the academy have been great. He has been decent for the first team but I always found himself trying to find his feet and lacking confidence to impact himself on a game but despite that he has done well.

I not watched him for QPR but no one has done well for QPR tbh. Basically the reasoning for him to be in the first team is because he offers something different to everyone else. Also Bentaleb has been good for our first team and Carroll is better atm(further in his development).

I hope he does turn out to be good, but imo we've got no reason as of yet to suggest that he will be any good for us yet. Just a bit of potential and hearsay. Anyway, we'll see ey!
