Dont rate paulinho higher than Joey Bartonè. He is Slow he is a bad passer and will take so much time for him to even cope with the high tempo that is in the PL. Just a nobrainer to even buy him in the first place

Just give him a chance mate. It's unfair to have already made up your mind about a guy who has played over 60 games this year in all competitions without a proper break. On top of this he is adapting to a new country and a new league.

Apparently Hull are going for Powell. If we were to recall Carroll and send Bentaleb there. I would definitely send him there if we arent going to make room for him and if they sign Livermore, which looks a certainty. A midfield 3 of Carroll, Livermore and Huddlestone would look quiet tasty especially for a team that just got promoted. Livermore and Huddlestone are the reason they are looking like they will stay up!

I actually wrote in the Bentaleb thread that we should send Nabil to Hull. I watch alot of Hull since Tom moved there and have to say they lack an attacking CM/AM more than anything else. Im under the impression that Nabil played as an AM for our U21 and is pretty skillful for that position. For me Caroll is more of a recycle possesion/ deep lying mid type of player (which is exactly where Hudd plays for Hull). They actually also use a wide player, if we can recall Pritchard and send him there, he would fit their style immensely.

not in the squad for todays game against QPR

If Tim is bringing him back then where does he fit into the team?
Seems to play better in a midfield 3, but so far we set up in a 442

We also are not short of players in that area with players coming back either

All of the current 4 CM's are big guys, ideal to dominate posession as AVB's tactics required. However, as best illustrated against West Ham in the PL, they do not have the passing skills necessary to beat a team who park the bus. Carroll does and would play as the deep lying .playmaker which Spurs do not have and need to beat the 'park the bus' teams.

Whether Carroll would get enoiugh game time is another thing.

Its also not clear to me currently whether Sherwood/Ramsey can utile the current squad in a way that Spurs do not need to rely upon the deep lying midfielder - they've out-thought and surprised most of the SC tactics/formation experts so far !

It will be stupid move unless we are changing formations. Its much better he stays and plays a whole season at QPR

I wonder if we will leave him there now.
We are going to find it hard enough to keep players happy with the squad and games we have.

Thoughts on him?

Not quite physical enough in the championship for the role he plays I think.

Lightweight, apart from playing obvious short crisp passes over a distance of 10-15yrds I'm not sure what else he brings to the party.

I can't really find many positives from him aside from the amount of pitch he covers. Poor tackler, easily knocked off the ball and all to often his passes go astray.

I agree with Davef, Carroll looks like a boy playing in a man's game. Far too lightweight. Did nothing against Leicester. I very much doubt any other manager besides good ole 'Arry would have brought him to LR.

I've heard plenty regarding his ambition compared to Walker and Townsend... For me he's absolutely miles away from their level.

Admittedly Townsend had a number of loan spells at lower league level until he finally made the cut at Spurs - but from the moment I saw both him & Walker I felt (like many other fans) that they were pretty special.

Carroll is a talent, he's got great technique and can pick a pass - but I expected far more from reading various reports about him. He will probably make a decent career for himself, but I just hope they've not hyped him up too much, too soon. He's got a lot to learn.

He needs to put on a bit of bulk as it seems his biggest drawback is his size. Get him down the gym and on some protein shakes.

There are some good posts but they are already what we know, shows for the ball, is intelligent as a player etc.

I just thought this would be a valuable insight into Carroll, because half of those triumphing him have most likely seen him play a lot less than these QPR fans have.

I really don't feel it's conducive to recall him.

don't really see the point in recalling Carroll, cracking player but no better than what we have sat on the bench, we need defenders.

If the Championship is too physical for him, in the PL, he'll be knocked off the ball so much he'll end up outside the ground

i saw one of their games a few weeks back, first one he played after his injury. He played in a 442 that their fans were not happy about as they thought he was too lightweight and not strong enogh. He put in a good performance and wasnt being pushed about much at all.

He does need more work in the gym, but not too much as i dont think his build would should bulking up too much.

Exactly.

Someone explain this to me: carzorla, rosicky, walcott, ozil, wiltshire, arteta, ramsey.

All lightweight.

Scum top.

its just enough upper body strength to hold most players off, and then the skill to keep the ball away from the rest
