its just enough upper body strength to hold most players off, and then the skill to keep the ball away from the rest

Most of those players don't just use their upper body, they use their whole body and use what they got however slight they are.

It's their mentality that gets them by.

Something wenger drills into them relentlessly...something we need to learn on the whole.

Exactly.

Someone explain this to me: carzorla, rosicky, walcott, ozil, wiltshire, arteta, ramsey.

All lightweight.

Scum top.

?
becos they play a system that these players fit in to, you can clearly see what arsenal players work at during their training sessions. lots of the time and not just of late our players make far too many mistakes when passing over short distances and retaining and moving the ball, maybe thats what we work on in our training sessions, carzola is exceptionally talented tho imo.

Really keeps us ticking over in the midfield, hope people are realising how effective he is to us.

Best player on the pitch 2nd half !

Best game for us me thinks.

This ISN'T me having a pop at him but we seemed to play a lot better once Barton went off and Carroll took over the "farkin' runnin' arahnd a bit" role.
I thought Barton was playing well before the injury and my heart sank when "Thierry" came on but Carroll did a good job in there today.

When is he coming back FFS. Him and Naboo either side of Capoue would be nice.

You think he's a better option than Holtby and Dembele? What about when Paulinho is back and Lamela and Townsend start playing so Eriksen gets moved into the middle?

When did we sign Naboo?

But seriously Bentaleb is supposed to go the other way BC

I think there are games when I would happily swap Dembele's dithering for Carroll no problem. I think we can tinker to suit the opposition and venue (home/away etc). The biggest problem is that neither AVB nor Sherwood seem to want to entertain a 433, which is what would suit most of our CM's better I think. Dembele, Carroll, Paulinho, Bentaleb would all be better in a three with Capoue or Sandro sitting in the middle of two of them.

Dembele has the odd really great performance in a CM2 but is so slow to move the ball at times. Great in the final third to dribble at defenders, but in the middle it often just gives the opposition time to get at him or get in position.

It's a dilemma because he is a very good footballer.

What to QPR ? I'd take that swap right now. Carroll is just that little bit more forward thinking and incisive and Bentaleb would get 5 months regular football.

It's the old passers vs beasts dilemma. Personally i'm willing to give passers a try, our midfield has been overly beastly this season.

What's your version of a balance? Keeping the ball is the best defence, IMO. I quite like BC's idea of Sandro-Carroll-Bentaleb.

Have to say I agree with that really, you could swap carroll for onr of eriksen or holtby and bentaleb for one of paulinho or dembele and hopefully in time carroll and bentaleb progress enough to let others go. I like holtby as a player but would be happy to let him go to give carroll opportunities and at some point same with one of dembele or paulinho to give bentaleb the chance to develop.

With the wealth of talent we have in midfield atm then perhaps it's better the youngsters are loaned out atm so they get game time to develop.

If we were to switch to 433 and with the rumours of holtby leaving if he went with carroll coming back and replacing him and bentaleb getting loaned out I'd be very happy with that. If bentaleb and carroll are to become first team players for us others will have to leave

For all the hate and vitriol Sherwood gets his decision to turn to Nabil has been astounding. It only begs the question, why didn't we turn to out youth earlier ? Just like you i could accept Holtby leaving to make room for Carroll and possibly Capoue for Nabil. I can only see this upsurge in youth players getting time on the field as plus all around. We save money on any potential new signings, we can have the pick of the talent by showing them that if you work hard/train hard you CAN make it at the club and obviously the vindication of knowing that the players came from the academy.

I've watched Carroll 3 or 4 times this season, he's a long way behind the likes of Dembele.
