Does anyone still actually think that Carroll (who turns 22 in May) is better than Bentaleb (who turns 20 in November)? There is a reason that Bentaleb is playing in our first team & Carroll can't get in QPR's side. Ive watched QPR about ten times this year and Carroll just looks like another ok player who will probably end up at a lower level premiership team.

Ive never seen Carroll play a cross field ball like the one from Bentaleb last night, Ive never seen Carroll track back & tackle the way Bentaleb does and rarely does Carroll play wonderful through balls like the pass from Bentaleb to Lennon last night.

I really hope Im wrong and Carroll becomes a world beater over the course of the next two months but I just dont see it. Baring in mind he is only 3 months younger than Eriksen and 2 months younger than Lamela (who has represented Argentina and scored 15 goals in Serie A last year).

I think physical development and nature of league have a lot to do with that really. I've seen him play tenaciously. QPR's style of late has not suited him, and therefore he has not been effective. There is that air of desperation in the Championship which means that the long ball is adopted with hit and run tactics being employed. There is definitely some good football in the Championship but it might not have been the best fit. If he doesn't play for us next season is has to be a Southampton style team in the Premiership, although I can't see anyone other than a newly promoted side develop someone else's player.

Well they complemented each other pretty well for the U-21's last season. I'd say that Carroll's passing is actually better (i've seen plenty of through balls from him over the years, more than from Bentaleb), although he's a lot weaker defensively.

I'm prepared to give Carroll a lot of time, his lack of physique means that he's bound to come through later than players who are more physically ready.

I don't think the loan system has been a good idea for him.

If he had gone to Holland, Belgium or somewhere like that it would have been a good move, but that was never on the cards. If we were to go for Jordy Clasie, a little loan to Feyenoord would do him the world of good I reckon (for example). Or send him to Standard as we seem to have a good relationship with them. Or play him through pre-season and see what happens. Can always keep him around the squad until the January window like Walker and Townsend with Villa and QPR respectively.

I suspect LVG will like him so he will come into the squad next season, if he is ready.

So Tom started again today, and QPR won. I've no idea how he played, but I thought i'd work out how they've done with and without him.

Carroll starts
P17 W11 D2 L4 PPG: 2.06

Carroll doesn't start
P21 W9 D7 L5 PPG: 1.62

Sherwood "Tom Carroll is certainly one who will come back into the squad next season because he's good enough for Tottenham."

Is he having a dig??

If Carroll comes back it'll only be because we're playing moneyball and flogging Dembele or Paulinho or Holtby or Sigurdssen or some other infinitely better player than Carroll - there is no way known you can say he's earnt his spot while on loan.

Goal! Bournemouth 1, Queens Park Rangers 1. Armand Traore (Queens Park Rangers) left footed shot from the left side of the six yard box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by Tom Carroll.

QPR fans hate him and think he's shit. They're probably angry and overexaggerating it but it's really not promising.

I always played him down when others were waxing lyrical about him, even mentioning him in the same sentence as Modric, fucking lol.

22 and he can't cut it in one of the top sides in the championship, go figure.

Tom Carroll - 22 appearances 1 assist 0 goals

Bentaleb is MILEEEEEEES ahead of Carroll and that's saying something.

Apparently he's been phenomenal today for QPR and their fans all of a sudden seem very pleased.

Involved in all 3 goals and two of his involvements were assists

Edit- apparently played a part in all 5 goals!

The commentary on that QPR game was baffling with hardly a mention of Carroll despite him assisting the critical first 3 goals. He was everywhere, always wanting the ball, and always seeming to find space.
To me it sums up the footballing mentality in this country where the fast paced, direct, players are lauded but the simple, effective, passing players fly under the radar.
I'd love to see him and Eriksen in front of a defensive midfielder in our starting eleven.

I am curious - who makes the decision to loan a player like Carroll out, and more specifically, the team where he is loaned to?

I have been thinking about this recently, and it seems that a loan to QPR was not a productive move for a playmaker like Carroll. Yes, he gets playing time, but not the type of playing that we want to develop, so, in many ways it is a lost year. Unless we just want to sell him, it seems we should have found a suitable partner where they rate playmakers, and play a more possession-oreinted style of football.

Someone at Spurs obviously think that Arry can help Carroll further in his developments. Sorry, Arry has always shown that he let the players do their own thing in the game; Running around abit. The style that QPR are playing right now, mostly got to do with the players they have there......and from it showed, very little to do with Arry. Tom Carroll will only get better at a club which has a proper structure and footballing philosophy.....QPR under Arry is not one of those teams, unfortunately.
