Bloimey, they're not expecting much! http://www.thefa.com//news/england/...-carroll-swansea-city-garry-monk-luka-modric?

Really hope the lad fulfills his potential. Have to admit, I'd half thought he was one of those players that are highly rated in club but not really talked about elsewhere. Glad guy's like Monk rate him as highly as most of us fans do.

Great! Sounds like Monk will give TC opportunities to play in the league.I'm excited for him and i think he'll develop significantly from this loan.

Just had a look through some Swansea fans forums to see how Carroll did tonight.

Carroll was sloppy at times but I give him the benefit of the doubt as still new.

Carroll playing well.

Carroll neat and tidy, tackling better than I was expecting though gave the ball away more than I was expecting.

Carroll looked ok.

Carroll was a Joe Allen look-a-like.

Caroll made quite a few nice passes and looked like he'd been playing for us for a while.

Carroll looked neat and tidy, but again a little light.

Carroll, a great work ethic. Chasing down and not rushing the play which at times was the wrong option, but with a bit more game time he could become an asset.

Mixed bag, but I'd say the majority are positive. Championship opposition, but first game and all that, so let's hope he goes from strength to strength.

Planet Swans on Carroll :

Very impressed with Carroll tonight. He does remind of me Joe Allen. Think we got a good seal here.

Played very well, most impressed. Very Allenesque or even dare I suggest Leonesque.

It's the one I made towards the end of the game.
Similar to Joe also in that he may not have quite enough in his locker for a top team, but fits very well into our midfield. He probably won't do anything spectacular, but probably won't make any big mistakes. The anti-Shelvey if you like.

I agree. It was almost as if we had re signed Joe. Impressive debut.

Very good player, always seemed to find time on the ball

Keeps things ticking over. Not afraid to get stuck in.
I liked him based on that performance. Worth a second half sub on Sat if things are going our way to see how he gets on.

Agreed. Busy, always wanted the ball, breaking up play, composed, good vision and quality on the ball. What's not to like? Will be interesting to see if he can replicate that in the prem. if so, he'll be a welcome addition.

One wonders how much it would take to prize him from Spurs... As far as I can make out from a quick google search his contract is up in 2016 - A cheeky £2m bid and see what they say perhaps, its not like he is going to break into their x11 anytime soon

Very good little technical footballer.
Excellent game and he suits our style to a tee. Good work by our scouting system.
Wanted to dictate our play until JJS and Soggy Stardust came on which was good to see.
Tired a little towards the end which was understandable.

The thing I liked about him is that when he gave the ball away about 10 mins from the end (I thing Bartley got him out of jail) he didn't go hiding. That's when he started to look tired, but he picked himself up and 30 secs later was spraying the ball around like nothing had happened. IF he can do this in the prem where there is less time on the ball then he'll be in or around the first team in no time.

Garry Monk:
“Tom has come in and settled well and I thought he had a good game - you could see the footballer in him and we saw some really good passes and movement.

“It was good to get him out there and I'm sure he'll get sharper with games.

Don't have high hopes for Carroll anymore despite highly rating him a few years ago. This is probably his last chance to make it with us before he gets let go. Maybe Swansea could be the move that helps him develop into a good PL player, playing in a good footballing team will do wonders for him rather than playing in QPRs win at all costs attitude

I'm not sure he has the arrogance to push himself all the way to the top. Has to get a bit of a swagger about him. Garry Monk seems like a good guy and has already bigged him up a few times, maybe he feels he needs to do that to get the best out of him?

You'd hope he manages to make a decent career for himself, because he's already technically superior to the majority of British players in the League, and it would be a good demonstration that pace and power aren't necessarily required to make it at PL level. The likes of Leon Britton have shown that, so hopefully he can pick up some tips.

He is a tidy little player but I guess it is most likely that we sell him after this loan spell. He has good passing abilities but the package is not good enough.

- Small --> problems in defense, as well as in headers and strength
- no goal threat

He will be a decent player in the Premier League. Just not for a top 8 team. Our future is still positive in that area with Bentaleb, Milos and Winks as the next generation.

Just the question how much he impresses on this level and how much money we will get for him.

But he is still a Spurs man till then at least. Good luck Tommy!

True but if he imposed himself for Swansea today its a step in the right direction as some people don't have the confidence to make the step up with limited opportunities.

If he breaks in to the Swansea team and does well then he can still make it with us. The kid was a late developer anyway and despite being 22, plenty of players have made it to despite not breaking in to the first team at a young age. Pirlo is the perfect example didnt make the Inter team and then got sold for a false "profit"

I know in many ways Swansea are a good fit, footballing wise, but would have been much better for Carroll if they were still playing the 433 system.

I don't think he's defensively disciplined or tenacious enough to play in a CM2 in the EPL.

I am not sure he will make it with us now we have Poch who appears to like a bigger, stronger CM.

But a passing, possession side such as Swansea would suit him perfectly and I believe this is more of a 12 month trial with us possibly selling him to them similar to the Livermore/Hull deal.

I am just happy that our academy is producing Premiership quality youngsters with Livermore, Kane, Townsend all featuring so far with, hopefully, the likes of Carroll and the rest following suit.

Poch loves players who can keep possession too and infact last season Southampton topped the table for possession. There is a reason Ward-Prouse and Steven Davis, neither of which are particularly big or strong, did well under poch.

My boss is a ST holder at Swans and I'd say he's a fairly knowledgeable guy when it comes too footy. He didnt go to the league cup game but went to the wba game last weekend so was the first time he'd seen Tom Carroll.
I'd given him a heads up of what he could expect, and he came into the office on Monday with a beaming smile and spent about 20 mins gushing over TC's 10 minute display!!
His main praise was 'he reminds me so much of Joe Allen a few years ago, but a much better version!' (To put this in some context Joe is a local lad to us in west wales so was always the 'apple of his eye' type. For him to praise Tom like this, I was shocked!)
He's already hoping the Swans can make it permanent in January for 4-5million - I just laughed at him :)

I think Swansea is the perfect place for him develop mentally I didnt think he was tough enough but every single player who has come through the academy has received a torrent of abuse.

So going to a club that is away from the pressure and abuse is perfect for tom imo.
