How'd he do against Everton?
Quotes from the match thread on a Swansea forum

"thought carroll looked sharp. might be nice to give him a league start and see what the midfield can do. "

"Funny how opinions differ. I watch Carrol carefully and although he started ok, he was never the same after the big hit on him near the start. He covered some ground, but didn't impose himself and was sloppy in possession. Looks too weak still at the moment and miles away from JJS/Ki. But, we all know he's work in progress and has shown enough to deserve some chances. He's a long way from an automatic starting spot though (imo of course). "

2 of my mates said he looked very lightweight and got bullied a little but used the ball well, if un-spectactularly

As with crouch it amazes me that players like this who clearly lack the physical strength to avoid getting out muscles aren't on a strength building program to focus on chipping away at some of gap between themselves and their rivals

Don't have to build mass and potentially affect his agility but he should surely be working on his core strength and explosive power more than the average player does to try and bridge the gap

He's clearly talented, stood out as a youngster some time ago because of his passing range and vision but doesn't seem to have kicked on and hasn't so far risen to the challenge of first team football against stronger opponents in physical leagues

He was poor for QPR last season - I'm hoping he's more suited to the PL than he was the championship and that his year getting roughed up will toughen him and be good for his over all development long term

It's a bit of a shame to still be hearing about him being too light weight and weak to compete though - he's no longer very young and inexperienced and these are the types of issues that should have been addressed and improved upon

Hopefully he will force his way in to the Swansea team and make himself a regular so that he either increases his value as a proven EPL CM or better still can prove his worth enough to force his way into our team - though if I'm honest I have serve doubts

But how much of that just reflects the preconceptions of fans when it comes to lightweight players? Spectators tend to see what they are primed to see.

He's not very high profile - I doubt the QPR and Swansea fans knew a lot if anything about him before they saw him play for their new team

I would be more incline to believe they are saying what they see rather than being fooled into thinking they're seeing something that isn't there just because there is a supposed preconception about him

I know my friend who is a QPR season ticket holder knew nothing about him but was excited to have him because of their previous experience with Spurs loan youngsters (walker and townsend) and she came to the conclusion that he was weak and not good enough for their starting eleven based on what she saw week to week (I know this because her opinion developed and changed the more she watched him rather than assuming it to be the case on arrival)

I meant that they took one look at him an decided that he was a skinny little runt, and that this biased their perceptions of his ability to compete physically.

Well I can't talk for everyone - but my personal experience of discussing his progress at one of his loan clubs with one of their season ticket holders was contrary to that (she didn't instantly think he was weak it wasn't until an extended period of watching him that she started to say this - gave him plenty of benefit of doubt and expected good things from him)

But most of our fans were saying how he'd be a perfect fit at Swansea etc? Pretty sure he's just not good enough.

I think their acquisition of Sigurdson and a switch to 4231 hasn't helped. I think if they played the 433 the used to he would have fitted in LCM really well.

To that end I'm not sure how well he'd fit in any of our 4231's that Pochettino won't vary.

yeah I think unless he really stands out for Swansea this season, which is looking unlikely, I don't think he's gonna make it with us now. We've so many young midfielders coming through and the club has an addiction to signing midfielders some will have to leave unfortunatley

Carroll had a good game for the U21's last night. Pretty much ran the midfield as England dominated, played a lovely ball to put Berahino or Redmond through.

Still time for him smaller players in CM usually take a bit longer to get to grips with the physicality of the EPL

Another great loan. He might as well be here sitting on our bench and playing cup games.

Don't think he would make the bench for the PL games and wouldn't be starting Cup games either in my opinion.

I hope so. Would love a few more youth products to come through. I just haven't seen anything in Carroll to be honest.

Thought he looked very promising when he 1st came on to the scene but hasn't really progressed at all, which is disappointing as we do lack that type of midfielder

Had a very good game for the u21's on Friday, pretty much England's most influential player, played some nice passes, inc a lovely ball to put Redmond (I think) clean through.
