Is Leon Britton that good? They go on about him likes he's Xavi. I always thought he was decent but..

Britton had a huge amount to do with the success of Swansea's possession tactic working as they got promoted and then stayed in the premiership. His injury last season had a lot to do with their relative struggles. He's not as good as Xavi obviously but he's the same type of player and very good at recycling the ball and intercepting it. He was easily their most important player under Rodgers and to a certain extent Laudrup, although now he's a bit older and they are starting to replace him. I think Carroll is more likely to go to Swansea permanently as Britton's replacement than stay with us, tbh, it's a role tailor made for him and Bentaleb and Mason are much more suited to our style.

i thought carroll is more the joe allen than the britton under brendon rodgers. Ki is normally more deeplying when defending and is a energetic b2b player, while carroll is more like a central midfielder as was joe allen. just that Ki as a b2b likes to overlap and often cut into the box, carroll have to lay back and cover the dm's positioning. Britton is more a type of deeplying playmaker, and the midfield trio britton-allen-siggy press in the opponent's half as i remember. please tell if i were wrong.

I think that's true to a certain extent, but before Britton was the playmaker deep with Allen, De Guzman or Ki being the busier player winning the ball back, and Sigurdsson (originally), Michu or De Guzman acting as a Lampard-type scoring midfielder. Now Monk has changed the system slightly from what I can tell, where Sigurdsson is the playmaker further forward and the other two midfielders are supporting him rather than the player at the base of the midfield.

That's just my impression from the Swansea games I've seen (I grew up there so I go to roughly equal number of Swansea and Spurs games), but it's a fairly fluid system so individual games the roles may vary. The most important thing with Swansea's midfield is the quick recycling of possession, and that's something Carroll does very well.

Does anyone know if we have a January recall clause? If Mason is going to be out for a while (touch wood!) and Bentaleb off the the ACN then we could think about bringing back Carroll as midfield cover.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't recall players that are on loan to a team in the same league as you.

Its more like if they have paid a loan fee. If its season long loan, I am sure we cant recall him.

We should definitley use him and Naughton to find a deal for Bony.

Carroll offers for me not enoug to play in our midfield. Nice little passer but we need someone else there.

Would be gutted if we sold Carroll without first giving him the chance to establish himself as a first team player at Spurs.

Understand the sentiment but its going to get harder - we've got lots more very good CM's coming through, but can only find places for probably only the excellent - Veljkovic, Winks, Onomah, Miller, Lesniiak........and then we get into the younger Academy CM's.

Arent Miller and Onomah attacking midfielders whereas Carroll is a central midfielder? And is Lesniak close to being in the picture? Dont really know much about him, other than he played some at left back. Veljkovic is a center half/DM so probably would be a CM partner to Carroll if he becomes a DM for us. Also, Carroll seems to be holding his own in the PL right now after a shitty championship loan to QPR. We might as well give him a shot next year. After all, he is one of our own.

He had a really good game. He got forward really well throughout the game. Overall, he was intelligent with the ball and his movement.

Had to probe a bit to find it, but damn, that is a really nice play from Carroll. Love to see that kind of stuff from a central midfielder. If he can only improve the defensive side of his game, he may yet still be able to contribute for us.
