Great result today but, for me, tinged with sadness.

When I saw the black armbands, I held my breath because I knew so many of the players who are now ageing and when I learned it was Tommy Harmer, it brought back some fond memories.

I didn't know Tommy but I did see him play when I went to matches with my dad in the mid-50s. Tommy was small in stature and slightly built, he was speedy and accurate with his passing from his inside forward position. He was transferred to Watford in 1960, after giving nine years of stalwart service to Spurs, so missed out on being in the Double winning side where Les Allen and John White filled the inside forward places so expertly.

Tommy put in 222 appearances and scored 51 goals while with our team and when he retired, he was still living in N17, his spiritual and footballing home.

I last saw him some years ago at Cliff Jones's 60th birthday bash. As he left the party, we were getting into our car and Tommy tripped on a step. "Didn't see that happen too often in the old days, Tommy!" I remarked and he laughed and said goodnight.

Another Spurs legend gone. He would have loved the result today.

RIP Tommy.

Lovely player and a nice man. He would never have made it through the Acadamy system today with his slight frame. Thats why we will never be a great international team again.

RIP Tommy.

My dad didnt know til I told him after game. He was quick to produce a letter than Tommy had sent when my dad wrote to him asking him to sign an old shirt- which he did.

Yep RIP Tommy Harmer

I never saw him play, he was the last of our great players that I never saw play live - seen them all since - but from what I've read he was a magician with the ball and a real live wire cockney Sparrow - He would have loved how well we played today and in Keane I think we have someone with quite a lot of Tommy Harmer about him

Never saw Tommy Harmer play but my Dad told me that he was the original stuttered run-up penalty taker in England and caused a bit of controversy when he started to do it. Anyone here ever see him take a penalty?
