Never seen him play, but read articles on him and seems like a good servant to the club.

Harmer the Charmer. A lovely man with wonderful skills.
In 1969, my dad arranged a charity match between the league winners of the South East counties and a Spurs XI.
Tommy played in that game, god knows what age he was, but no one could get the ball of him.
With 10 minutes to go, I got to go in goal and had the great pleasure of NOT being able to save a penalty taken by Tommy. My dad and me still talk about that day with great memories.

Saw him play in a non-league side, against Andover Town, sometime in the late sixties. Well past his best by then, but still had some silky skills.

Sad news but he will be fondly remembered as a man as well as for his football.
We had a thread a while back something like who would be in the best Spurs team and I said Tommy Harmer, I never saw him play but he was always a family favourite in our house especially my uncle who knew his dad.
Tommy played the game for fun and entertained you, he was one of those players who was always a favourite with the fans.

Just as an aside, his name lives on in our family as we still all call tomatoes "Tommy Harmers".

Quality

Well before my time but my dad always talked about him with great fondness, obviously a fantastic player.

Never saw Tommy Harmer play but my Dad told me that he was the original stuttered run-up penalty taker in England and caused a bit of controversy when he started to do it. Anyone here ever see him take a penalty?

Yes sq, many times. It wasn't only the stuttered run-up; in one match he ran up as though to take the kick only to lift his foot over the ball. The keeper dived but then looked back to see Tommy standing by the penalty spot with his foot over the ball, a broad grin on his face. I think they changed the rules because of this. He was a wonderful player - in that era between our two great sides. Most of all he was an entertainer.

RIP Tommy - those that saw you play will never forget you.

Tommy was a few years 'ahead' of me but I am well aware of his stature in the club history. His was a name that I considered Spurs' Royalty..... R.I.P. See you at the great 'kick around' in the Sky! COYS!
