Not going to happen. I didn't think we were good enough before the season started. All the hype was way, way over the top. Our best bet for a Euro spot now is via a cup. Probably the league cup. We may shoot up the league a good bit but we really need to start performing now, not anytime soon, but now. The other teams are not going to stand around and wait for us.

How many points had Spurs accumulated and what position were Spurs in the League once Jol took over from Santini? As we finished 5th and very close to acheiving 4th that season.

TBH, I'd take 8th right now.
Things have been bad so far this season, but we do have time to turn our fortunes around.

I suspect that Ramos will concentrate on winning silverware this year, in at least one cup competition.
The only realistic way I can see us qualifying for Europe this year, is if we win the Uefa Cup, which is completely possible.

I'm optomistic that we can put a great run of games together and move up the league, but talking about were we finish is difficult.
So many factors deciding it. Pompey/Everton may have a bad run, we may catch them up, they might stay up there, and we would have to settle fo a mid position, say 10th.

We will finish in the top half, just can't say for sure if it will be top 7 or not!!!

I'd be happier if we just concetrated on our performances and improved results one at a time, getting the best out of the fantastic squad we already have in place.

See my post above. You're conflating 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. We finished 9th, 4 points off a European place. If JR can pull off something similar I don't think anyone will be too displeased, and if he does better we will be very happy bunnies indeed.

No chance of top four. But every chance of winning a cup and with the a little luck a last minute battle for sixth.

We really need to start winning, all these draws are no good points-wise, I really hope Ramos can turn it around and get some stability into the defence aand midfield.

It's a long shot, but deep in my heart I know it's a possibility we could walkaway with a European slot.

This time in 2004 we headed into a home game with Charlton, our last match under Santini. We had a dodgy start to the season and amassed 13pts from 11 games.

We ended up on 51 pts that season after Jol took over. And it was only in the last 2 games that we were denied a top six finish (in fact, having lost to 'Boro away, City had to beat 'Boro and we had to B'burn in the last game by two goals).

I would hope that we have a better squad this time, and supposedly a better manager so this is why I have to believe we can pull off a great escape.

But it won't be Top 4.........

Levy's 'plan' to get us into the top four will most likely see us not make Europe next season. Can he then go from 'nowhere' to top four? Personally I doubt it.

I'm not so sure, I can see how not playing in Europe next season could boost our chances, as well as detract from them. Our closest attempt saw us out of all cup competitions early, concentrating solely on the league might be the way to do it against the odds. Not playing in Europe doesn't seem to have done Pompey or Citeh much harm.

Crowing about "Top 4" is EXACTLY the kind of bullshit that got the club into such an unholy mess this season.

I think the truth behind this 'fact' is that we are simply too far behind now. Nearly a third of the season gone and we have 8 points. Can we get top four from where we are now? No.

The stupidity of a managerial change at this point is that we suffered from below-par performances as the initial incumbent was undermined, and now we will be told that we have to wait for Wendy to get his methods working.

Levy's 'plan' to get us into the top four will most likely see us not make Europe next season. Can he then go from 'nowhere' to top four? Personally I doubt it.

If you are right , then the earliest we could reasonably hope to stand a chance of finishing 4th under Ramos is is 2009-2010 . Platini may already have restricted England to 3 entrants by then .

They could have taken a different way to dealing with Jol's perceived weaknesses by giving him an enforced break , hiring people to help him , bringing in the players he asked for .

In a strange way enic may have unintentionally acted in the best interests of the club by getting a manager who is more attractive to potential buyers and so hasten their own exit .

I don't really see how anyone could seriously talk about a midtable side (which we are, we have to face facts) muscling into CL territory when the 4 clubs have such a stranglehold on that particular gravy train. Even Arse have bit the bullet and switched to a larger stadium while we're still faffing about. Short of a sugar daddy approach or at the very least, changes to either the wage structure or transfer policy, it's not going to happen with Levy at the helm.

Of course, we could always wait for Pool to self-destruct. At this point of time, that seems a more optimistic plan, considering how Benitez is morphing into Houllier ver 2.0.

If we are a third of the way through the season at present rate we are looking at 24 points total (30 possibly)

Go figure.

I said a couple of weeks ago that we may as well forget the league this season as it is beyond us, we won't qualify for Europe that way so lets just work at getting it right and go all out for a cup.
Since then Ramos has taken over and seems to be experimenting to get it right so I reckon he's being realistic about the league this season too.

Sometimes you have to go back to go forward again.

Have to look to one of the cups this year and maybe a mid table finish. Got too much to do now in order to catch up to the Uefa cup spot.
