Think this is bad news. Yes we will get more money but it will make the league even less competitive.
Also how long before utd push for an even bigger slice as they are the most supported abroad.

It's not quite as bad as it sounds, but I agree, we wouldn't want to see it go any further than this. I can't see that happening at the moment though, due to the clubs having to vote on a 1 club, 1 vote basis. I'm not sure how the even got this ratified, I guess there's an element of some of the lesser clubs trying to pacify the big boys for fear that they may one day decide to do exactly what you say and start insisting on negotiating their own TV deals, which would be disastrous for most clubs.

Yeah not happy about this we need more opportunity for lesser clubs to compete not a monopoly on the league

Bit pissed so can't do the math but they said that the difference from top to bottom was £165m to £95m in current rules. New foreign tv deal is roughly the same as the domestic. Yet both will go to the 1.8.
We are talking maybe another £50m difference? That is a lot of money.

Like I said, I think it's about giving the big boys enough to keep them happy and stop them fucking off and taking the ball with them completely, ending up like La Liga, where two/three teams took all the revenue.

I'd rather it was just kept equally distributed, but I guest this is the lesser of several worse scenarios. It's not actually guaranteeing any particular clubs money, it's geared at rewarding the "top 6" a little more, whoever they may be. Now, I know that there will almost certainly be a constant group of clubs, but there will be the opportunity for others, as we've seen in recent years, to get a slice of that.

Don't worry not arguing any of your points bc. Just sad.

Fuck sake. Surely one of the key reasons the PL is so successful globally is because of the amount of competition. The more they work everything to be skewed in favour of the big teams the less competition there will be and it will ultimately just end up being equally as boring as La Liga etc.

This was already one of the crappest PL seasons I can remember and that'll only get even worse.

Another thing worth pointing out is that if this works like the domestic distribution with equal steps, then it's not just the top 6 who'll benefit but to a lesser extent also anyone finishing in the top 10.

Yep the article is a little misleading. It was the top 6 pushing for it and it is unlikey that they will finish lower than 10th.

Any club contravening FFP or cheating to get round the rules should have their share divvied out amongst the rest of the League.

I really don’t see the problem, no one has an issue with the domestic TV rights being split like this. From what I read the overseas rights distributions were negotiated a long time ago. The top 6 could easily change and those teams would benefit from it.

It's capped at 1.8. That's the compromise that was reached. Plus only anything above the current 3.3b will not be equally shared.

The cuurent deal is 3.3bn. The new is over £5bn. We are going from evens to 1.8 difference. If you want to do the math be my guest.

No, we're not. Man City currently get a 1.6 multiplier over the lowest placed team. This will be capped at 1.8.

Foreign tv deal is equally split that will change to 1.8 difference.

Yes. but the foreign was evens the domestic was 1.6. The top teams are getting a big payrise.
That's where you're going wrong. The overall difference in payout was 1.6. The foreign was even. The domestic was therefore a lot more than 1.6 (more like 2.0 or something).
