Top four finish?

Comments like we are a different Spurs team now belong at the end of the season, why?

Do you think any of our players are fearing the worst, do you think they'll be thinking about finishing in 4th? The other day Harry Kane made a reference about being itching to play every game and cannot wait to the get on the pitch or something, our players confidence levels are off the charts, why can't our fans have the same confidence in the team?

When Poch came in he said that he needs to change the entire mentality of the club first and he did that but it still seems that some of our fans need to change their mentality as well.
It does not matter what the players fear or do not. I have confidence as well, it does not mean I feel the need to go round calling others melts because some remain cautious (that wasn't you).

There is nothing wrong whatsoever with being optimistic, but even this team has shown it can still draw when a victory looked the likeliest of outcomes. Nothing inherently wrong with that and a far cry from the days many would still fear losing when 5-0 up with 10 to go!!

But is it not also prudent to look at our remaining fixtures, the nature surrounding them and just allow oneself a moment to comprehend that Arsenal may well yet catch us? That would be very disappointing, but it is entirely possible.

We were all over Leicester and lost 0-1 at home. We could yet put in a similar performance at the bridge tonight and have a similar result. That's football. Whilst 3rd would in no way be shameful, it would highlight that there is still work to be done. That's ok too btw...

I was just highlighting that between all of those supposedly being melts and those who believe we still will win the league, there is a happy medium of supporters who appreciate that whilst we are much improved, the season has yet to end and we must still work to earn our belief as players and supporters that we have the capacity to finish the job. Is that not a reasonable suggestion, or does everything on a board have to be black and white?

City have 64, win their last 2 and finish with 70
Arsenal have 67, lose to City and win 1 and finish with 70
Spurs, lose their last 3 and finish with 69 = 4th
Liverpool win the Europa = no champions league for Spurs

The above is highly unlikely but still possible.

why do you keep posting the same crap, when you don't even know the rules?

I don't know if you noticed this, but Arsenal managed it... no they can't win the league, but funnily enough they could yet overtake us. I have seen plenty of games this season to know exactly how improved we are, how we almost never lose. However, we are not above drawing due to just being unfortunate or not taking our chances.

Its clear that drawing games has been our Achilles heel this season. Now I do believe we have enough in our locker to see this through, but I am not taking anything for granted. Not because "we are Spurs" even, just because in a season where f'ing Leicester can win the league, anything else can happen too.
The fact is we're in the drivers seat.

The idea of them overtaking us isn't even just assuming we fail, it's that they prosper.

It's annoying. It's not even cautious, in fact it's illogical and for that reason extremely annoying.

Fans all season have gone, "oh Chelsea will overtake us" - until they're mathematically eliminated.
"oh Liverpool will overtake us now that they have Klopp" - until they're mathematically eliminated.
Do this for every other "top club" ad nauseum and it's fucking annoying.

We've played amazingly well this season and it's like no one is watching. They'd rather sit at home gnawing at their nails worrying about how a team miles behind will magically overtake us.

8th will qualify for Europa League qualifiers if Liverpool win the Europa League and finish seventh, and Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six, and Manchester City qualify for the Champions League

All very possible

Mad to think almost have the teams in our league could be playing in Europe next season

if Man U win the cup, and also finish in a European spot, I thought Palace then got the Europa place. I know it used to happen, as Millwall took part in Europe after losing to Man U in the final

As it stands 2 points behind is hardly miles behind.
I am not worried, not yet. We play tonight and I fancy us to get a positive result and for Man City and Arsenal to draw as well, but come on... If we were daring to dream when only 5 points behind Leicester, we can equally dare to at least glance over our shoulders at those right behind us!

The only comparable there is lasagna gate. We really did have a team playing well and deserving of something.

Single games that don't go your way aren't comparable to an entire seasons worth of good play. Every team in the entire league has those meltdown games. Most of them you can even find a meltdown game this season alone.

Even in the Redknapp or AVB years we rode our luck. Our results were always boosted with a few points you'd say came from games that we didn't really deserve to win but we did anyway. Those things tend to even out in the end and they often did for us. This year is he complete opposite. We've had what, one game we deserved to lose (West Ham) and had bad luck in others.

The point was more that we have been in favourable positions before, and it's gone tits up. Be that in individual games or points wise in the table. That's why I can understand a pessimistic stance.

Well amidst the massive disappointment of tonight's result it's worth highlighting that the point at the Bridge all but confirms a top three finish (and therefore automatic CL qualification).

If City fail to beat Arsenal we're guaranteed top three. If City do beat Arsenal (and Arsenal presumably beat Aston Villa), Arsenal would need to turn around a minimum of 15 goals (more if City beat them by more than one).

Essentially we'd need to lose by five goals to both Southampton and Newcastle, with Arsenal beating Villa by five.

We're in the group stages!

Have to say that this has been my favourite thread this season and probably the last 5 seasons.

The difference this year is that I as a supporter did not grasp the culture change Poch made in such a short time.

I've been looking ahead When we were behind top 4, but at the minute we were in top 4 I was looking over my shoulder. I feared our march/april schedule without knowing what capabilities this team have, and what drive this team have. They never looked behind, only ahead.

I, as a supporter for 25 years Could not let go of the "Spurs-way" of bottling it at some stage.

I, as a Spurs-supporter, did not/Could not believe that we are the best/second best team in the league.

I let you down once Poch - it will not happen again!

Not only do we finish second When expecting 6th, but we have changed the culture at this club! This is proved by a Chelsea team extremely happy with 1 point at stamford bridge, trying to make the clock tick to secure that point.

I'm telling you this: Tottenham WILL fight for the title next season!

That's why I was content with a point before the match. But we could be missing like 4 crucial first-team players, so my confidence for that match has gone down.

5 if you include Alli

and for 2 of them they will miss the 1st game next season, and that depends on how serious the FA take Dermbele's punishment

After we finished 5th last season, I really couldn't see how we wouldn't improve this season. We didn't lose any good players; a whole load of younger players were bound to get better, and we made an obviously good signing in Toby. So 9/2 seemed like really good odds to me. At the time, I thought that evens or just a little longer than that would have been about right. If I was a real betting man I might have put more than a tenner on.

£75 in my account now that wasn't there yesterday. Thank you Spurs! Did anyone else have anything on top four?
