Top four finish?

I don't really obsess about finishing top 4, take each game as they come. On our day, I think we can beat any team in the league & we've played well so far this season without picking up the points. If it all clicks (Son is huge for us as he gives us pace) then I think we could certainly finish top 4. I'd put it 80:20 against and a lot depends on how we do against teams like Watford, Stoke and Swansea.

It's also important we add a player or two in january to refresh things (Berahino in on Jan 1st would be wonderful).

Woah there horsey. I'd love 4th but not this season I dont think.

What will happen is, English clubs will fuck up their Euro co-efficients, we'll finish 4th next season and only Top 3 will get CL.

Were Spurs, you know it.

:ROFLMAO:

We just scored 4 against what was previously the strongest defence in the league.

Their defence is a completely different proposition with Kompany, and without De Michaelis, which the stats bear out. Doesnt lessen my joy at all, but im not getting carried away.

We are pretty good on the counter, against teams who come at us. My point was that we are less good against those who sit, or at least have been to date. Hope we can pick swansea off in the same way...

We have as good a chance as any of our rivals IMO.

In fact I rate our chances better than Liverpool and Everton.

I think we'll finish fifth but we definitely have a chance of fourth, as I firmly believe we'll improve over the course of the season and the difference in our defensive work/set up is huge IMO.

Having a good defense, and defending well as a team, is vital if you want to go anywhere in this league. We look poles apart in this respect now.

Liverpool, for example, are leaking goals for fun. If you're conceding few goals you can nick a lot of tight games by the odd goal or two and that's priceless in this League. How many games did United use to nick at the death under Fergie? Countless times.

Fourth or fifth for me.

I won't go so far as to predict that we will just yet, but I will say that I think this squad has the best chance in years. This squad is balanced (finally), dialed in, hard-working, and young enough to better last the distance. What a tremendous world of difference it has made finally having a front four of not similar players with similar movement patterns. All last season, opposition back lines were able to remain perfectly flat and organized, as our rotation was poor, the players were too similar and so didn't make defenders adjust their tactics/orientations, and we had no players who could pry back lines open. On Saturday, we saw what was previously the top defense in the league in utter disarray. That wasn't entirely due to Kompany's absence, but also the fact that our front four remained extremely fluid, constantly kept the City defenders reshifting and realigning due to having to rethink active defending against each player, and simply outworked any City player on the pitch.

We're definitely not among the top four most talented teams in the league, but I do think we're one of the most balanced and cohesive, and I'm of the conviction that those traits are more important than outright quality. I think our lack of balance in the attack positions has blunted our chances severely in recent years, but also think that we've finally addressed it, and the results are showing on the pitch. I think we have a very good chance at making it happen this year.

Having a mean defence and one of the top goalkeepers in the league means we'll be there or thereabouts. It all depends on whether we start making better decisions in the final third, and stay clear of serious injuries to key players - Kane, Son, Dier, Hugo, etc...

If we want to finish in top4, going by previous years, we need 70 points & a goal difference of 20+

We now have 12 points from 7 games & a GD of 4. If we project this, we would be 65 points & a goal difference of 21.
Had we got 13 points from 7 games, we would be getting 71 points
Had we got 14 points from 7 games, we would be getting 76 points , both with a minimum GD of +27

Unlike last couple of seasons, we are already in positive GD.Goal difference is a great pointer to how we are doing at any point in season.

But in simple terms, we got to finish ahead of Liverpool & Everton and hope one of the top4 has a poor season.

Statistically we are on track.
Squad wise, we have improved. There are more options from bench than what we had last season.
Game play & tactics - if recent games are anything to go by, we have improved our game play. We are scoring from open field goals unlike previous seasons.
We have one of the fittest squad.

So, why not top4 ?

This Is the best squad we've hand since King Bale Modric Van De Vaart. It would not surprise me if we won the europa cup and got into CL via (league finish position).

Alot depends on our defensive play and imo goals spread around the team with Harry Kane firing as well.

It's early days we haven't even played 10 games yet so putting a sensible head on predicted outcomes I'd say the jury is still out.

Things are looking good tho.

If we keep defending the way we are and Kane re-discovers his goal scoring form of last season we have a very good chance I think, 13/2 is about right.

Good post. Should've nicked a point at OT and taken 2 more from either Stoke or Everton or both whichever way you look at that damn glass of water.

We are right where we need to be, and certainly much farther than I thought we would be looking at the fixture list when it came out. Never forget we have many teams in the bottom half we haven't played yet, including Bournemouth who just lost Wilson. Oh, and of course Pool who look like they are prime for an ass-ripping.

Another key thing will be if we can learn how to pummel a few of the weaker teams who come to WHL. This is what Arsenal do so well, they kill them in 30 mins meaning they don't expend maximum energy every week, and their goal difference gets nice and healthy.

Good luck mate. I wouldxhave touched it at 20s myself though.

Goals are vital, and we find them hard to come by against the lower teams who sit back. a second pacy cf, who can push hk for a place as well as give him a rest would have made me believe we had an outside chance. But that didnt happen. Waiting till February to introduce such an option would surely be too late.

To be fair WH whooped them the week before in their own back yard.

Answering the question asked, i think we are a season and possibly another recognised striker off a top four finish.

Sold start so far though even if wd did throw away wins at Leicester and at home to Stoke.

This makes me think twice as i watch Arse losing 1-2. You got a few "funny" ratings, but EPL is just about hanging on to the 4 spots. It could well transpire.

The way arsenal and Chelsea are playing, England could lose that fourth spot!
