What have you all done with Spurs Community? I'm confused. Three weeks ago we were average, not enough experience, lacking a second striker, shipping silly goals, lucky to finish 7th. Now we're a good bet for 4th

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE?!

(Something in between is usually the answer, so 5th again then?)

Come back after the monaco game if we draw or lose and order will be restored

We don't have the strenght in depth for a top 4 challenge, sadly. If we could bring in a top striker in January, perhaps...

Son, Kane, Lamela, Chadli, Njie, (Townsend)....who would you bring in to improve on those for at "affordable" prices and who would wana spend their time on the bench? There is no way Levy is going to spend a small fortune on "better" players nor is there such a urgent need really. Give Son and Njie time to settle, Kane time to find his scoring touch and Lamela to keep improving...

To be fair WH whooped them the week before in their own back yard.

Answering the question asked, i think we are a season and possibly another recognised striker off a top four finish.

Sold start so far though even if wd did throw away wins at Leicester and at home to Stoke.

They whooped them? Must of missed that Gaz. City were all over them for 80 minutes, any other day and they thump West Ham by 5 or 6. despite their two goals.

A completely different game to ours.

I put a tenner on us to win the league at 150-1 - I'm pretty certain we'll get top 4 and think we have a genuine chance at the league. Man City have the wrong manager who's bought the wrong players. Wenger's been at Arsenal too long and they have a dodgy defence. Chelsea's failure to get Stones is showing - Terry and Ivanovic are finished and Zouma is inexperienced and Cahill's never been good enough. And Van Gaal and Man Utd are an ill fit and he's had a scatter gun approach to bringing players in.

We look more defensively solid than any of them and have a young and energetic squad and a manager who's implemented a system the players believe in.

SHHH! You've just reduced the odds to 100/1.

This makes me think twice as i watch Arse losing 1-2. You got a few "funny" ratings, but EPL is just about hanging on to the 4 spots. It could well transpire.

I have no idea how this rating thing works, and I know its very early days in both Europa and CL, but Italy our nearest rivals lost a team in the qualifying stages, and Roma haven't helped their cause so far in CL.

I was browsing our fixtures earlier, and at the end we don't have that difficult a finish, so could depend on our usual throwing it away as usual scenario. I actually went and had a look at odds for top 4 myself, and even though 6/1 odds is good, ive not got enough funds that i'd want to use to take the bet on. unfortunately I need a bit better return than £60

out of our 7 fixtures so far, we have lost 1, but I honestly believe the points table on performances should be at least +5pts better off. the only fixture I was not overly impressed with so far was Sunderland away

Couple of good results and everyone goes overboard.
Same as when couple of poor results at start season people started moaning about everything.

Long and short of it is is that we are a young team in a state of transition. There will be both good and bad periods during the season but we are moving in the right direction.

We are a young team, and there will be some ups and downs, but I don't think most people are going overboard at all. Its clear for all to see that we look infinitely better defensively and with the likes of Son coming into our attack, we're starting to look more lively in the final third.

Its not just a few good results either. We were very unlucky not take a point at United, should of taken all three against Stoke and the performance against Everton was very good that certainly merited taking all three points.

Its of no surprise to me that results are going for us now - we've made a strong start to the season, it's just results havn't reflected that.

We wern't that great at Leicester or Sunderland for the first 70 minutes, and were perhaps lucky to win that one, but all in all we're looking a hell of a lot better than last season already IMO.

Its our new defensive solidity that gives me more confidence. You won't win enough games with out it.

I do agree with the bolded Mr Pink, but even though Walker and Davis are playing well, I do worry the opposition always seem to have a man free at the far post when crossing. luckily we haven't been punished by this yet.

I think this year will be very close, mainly because the top four all look like they will drop more points than usual this year and Liverpool look so off the pace but I think we are still a little bit light in terms of depth and a bit more quality throughout the squad.

I think what will make the difference is that I don't see us spending money in the Jan window because I don't think we be looking to bring anyone in simply because the young guys have looked very good and management will probably hedge on them rather spend more money in bringing in one or two players. It's a strange situation because we don't have probably quite enough quality to mount a sustained top four challenge while competing in two cups but we don't look weak enough in any position to have to really spend any money barring any long term injuries.

4 weeks away there were some serious opinions about relegation battle, now back in top 4. Yay! I can't do it to myself. Not yet.

There's more than a few drama queens here though. I mean realistically we were not going to get relegated and to be presuming as such after three games was just ridiculous.

I like the optimism in here but we were often at this point (Chelsea January / Arsenal February), and failed massively after that. I think personally the Swansea away game is now a key game. Can the young players keep their head cool? Can we deal with their pacey players`? Can we perform on a regular basis? Let's see..

No. I think we'll finish 6th or 7th.

I'm really positive about the work Poch has done but this squad is really young, and will be really inconsistent IMO.

We also know we've not got enough cover in certain positions, which will put more pressure on us to keep fielding key players even when they start tiring in March/April.

If we can hold onto our players and work out how to get a bit more top quality into the squad next summer then I think we could get 4th next season.

Problem is, with the way the English clubs are going in Europe that probably won't secure us CL qualification then!

Whatever the case, I think we should prioritise the Europa if we get to the latter rounds. This club desperately needs a trophy, for the fans and for the players.

In one sense I believe you are correct - but still think some are expecting too much. Top 4 based on events so far is asking a bit much - it would exceed my expectations for this season. The horrible Europa positions where i would place us.

We are still only 7 games in, having gone 6 games unbeaten,

Game vs Man U was a non-event decided by an unfortunate own goal with both sides looking short of match fitness.

This was followed by 3 draws basically during transfer window period where people were moaning about lack of cover for Kane and unhappy with Dier as DM. Even though Clinton and Son were bought there was and still is concern that perhaps 1 more was needed (and watching some of Berahino's movement the other night can understand why Poch wanted). Also no DM was bought though the unease re Dier playing in that position has lessened as he has shown what a good footballer he is but where is the alternative?

The performances in these draws varied considerably - throwing away 2 goal lead vs Stoke. playing poorly vs Leicester to dominating game against Everton. As I said previously this is indicative of a young side, as cannot guarantee how things go from one game to next.

Before the Sunderland match there was quite a bit of disquiet, but a win in a poor game was start of 3 match winning run - but it was really only against City that we really showed what we are capable of, and what the future holds as the squad gels together.

The Europa cup and it's vagries will I believe affect the squad and results (a bit like last season where poor results often followed Thursday night matches). Think Poch needs to take Europa seriously and his management of the squad, which fortunately is more balanced than last season, is important.

As per previous post, we are heading in the right direction but do not think we are the stage yet to expect Top 4.

If we beat pool at home, by a good score, I would feel quite confident about our chances.
