Why havent we been linked with Torsten Frings because he would be the perfect DM. Would he simply not want to go to us or what?

He'd be a good signing but surely the player to go for from Ze Germans should be Rolfes?

But Frings has much needed experience and resilence. he could provide the level-headed leader our midfield had been craving for. Id prefer either him or Albelda. Veloso looks out of reach and perhaps a little young?

Seems I can move a whole thread to GF, but not individual posts to a thread in GF, so some jiggery-pokery was necessary.

He's been injured for most of this season and will be 32 soon. Like Albelda and Senna, Frings is in the category of player we should have looked at last season. A number of posters were consistently mentioning all 3 of them and certainly in the case of Senna, there was a good chance a deal could have been made. Instead we went for youth and signed KPB.

he's quite injury prone. I think he spent most of last season in the recovery room and has only recently gor fit again. A bit like Anderton, often injured for us but always available for England.

Huggy is right, we should be after Rofles. Frings is old, prone to injury and not playing particularly well to boot. I don't know what tournament everyone is watching, but Germany looks poor when Frings is in the CM. That cracked rib might well have won Germany the tournament. And there is a reason Germany haven't scored from a corner in 100+ chances.....Frings is their version of Jenas.

Frings doesn't want to move, I'm pretty sure. I'd take him in a second, though. Great player.

engelaar's deal hasn't been final yet, schalke are offering less to what they have promised to bid.

With a half of Rolfes and a half of Frings (between the blackouts, so basically only 20 minutes), Frings looked the far better. Rolfes looked out of his depth and to be honest was almost as bad as Hitzelsberger. He looked much better in the previous match against Portugal, but I'm not sure right now that he is what I would be looking for. I think I would rather get two years out of an experienced and very very able DM while we look for a long term. I have no doubts a Senna, Albelda or Frings could do a very good job for us.
