Why have we not given him a new deal with the money he's earned in the last 2 years since the last one?
This tells me we're not putting a good deal on the table any time soon and this is to prevent vultures circling.

He'll be 33 when the contract expires. Might be best to let him go afterwards. Or offer him a year extension.

Might provoke him to force a move sooner rather than later instead though,

He could have forced a move anytime he wanted. Why would he try now when we've given him a year extension than wait till he's a free agent? Wouldn't make sense.

I think you answered your own question before you asked it?
He could have been waiting for a well earned better deal to be offered, all we've done is tie him into a longer contract on the same terms. Not what he deserves IMO.

We've given him a new contract, meaning that clubs will have to pay a fee to get him. Why would he force a move when he would get a bigger signing on fee if he left for free? 32-33 really wouldn't make much difference to how much he gets.
